what are the Linking Park of our generation? (1997+)
>>60918879
"g"
Linkin Park
Death Grips
>>60918894
no teen listen them anymore lol
that's why I asked lol
>>60918931
But Linkin Park only got big after 1997, early 2000s
Alright listen up you fucks.
There's no "music for edgy kids" anymore. That's because edgy kids no longer exist.
Sure, every once in a while you might meet an awkard teenage girl who dresses mostly in black and doesn't like hanging around with people, but she won't listen to any recent music that's marketed at her, because there's no such music. She's either gonna listen to basic kinda-sad pop rock, or fall back on the previous generation's edgy material (such as Marilyn Manson's worst albums) if she's culturally aware. But there's no 2010s equivalent of Linkin Park and Slipknot for her to get into in order to piss off her parents.
Either way, chances are that she won't even know about Death Grips and all those recent bands you guys like to associate with early-2000s mallgoth bands to discredit them. That's because mallgoths are now in their mid-20s, own a car, have a job and spend their free time calling each other "edgy" on the internet because they feel ashamed of their teenage years and don't want anyone to think they're still into that stuff.
Sure there's still bands that make superficially dark and safely offensive music (which is what "edgy" means nowadays) but they're aimed at young adults, not teens, same thing with fashion.

he means "for kids born after 1997"
>>60918988
>But there's no 2010s equivalent of Linkin Park and Slipknot for her to get into in order to piss off her parents.
You're wrong, you just don't know what's hip now. Face it, we'll never truly understand what kids are into anymore.
>>60919002
Kids born after 1997 should learn to fucking write a coherent post
>>60918996
There's not even a hint of aggressiveness in this, so it can NOT be an equivalent of Linkin Park.
also you can't "/thread" your own post.
>>60918988
>music like this now is "superficially dark and safely offensive"
>Linkin Park
>actually dark and dangerously offensive
>>60919010
Okay, since you know what's hip with kids, give me examples of angry-sounding, somewhat dark music that's popular with teenagers.
>>60918879
odd future
>>60919030
Re-read my post you illiterate fucktard. Linkin Park is exactly that. But kids don't even know about them.
>>60919030
this
>>60919035
I don't, I'm saying we're both out of touch. It exists though, teenagers will always find music that goes well with their angst. Obviously styles change but the rebellious music still exists
>>60919039
Odd Future Makes Linkin Park sound like GG Allin.
>>60919048
It still exists, but it's NOT music of their generation, it's music from OUR generation, and since there's no longer an economical niche for them, edgy kids are now super rare compared to when we were their age.
>>60919055
Practically nobody under the age of 18 gives a shit about them.
>>60919045
If you don't think that Linkin Park is edgy, why did you post that post with the assumption that OP was asking for edgy music?
You wanted people to read your shitty ideas, that's why. That's why I'm laughing at you.
Definitely Death Grips
>>60919013
and old fucks should learn to read
>>60919096
Holy shit you really are illiterate.
I JUST
told you that
THEY ARE
EXACTLY
THAT
which means
that I DO
THINK
that they're edgy.
WHICH IS WHY
I posted that post with the assumption that OP was asking for edgy music
DO YOU
MAKE UNDERSTANDINGS
OF THE THINGS
WHICH I AM MAKING TYPINGS OF
NOW?
>>60919112
>>60919103
definitely not
At best, it's music for edgy kids of our generation who have now grown into edgy young adults.
Amity Affliction
YOUNG INC
he's doesn't give a fuck about anything, he's not afraid to tell the truth, he's aggressive and a nihilist, he's idolized by alternative teens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEPoKR1Zcc0
not too bad if you ask me, sometimes I listen him
It's Escape The Fate, Black Veil Brides, Bring me the Horizon, Breaking Benjamin.
It's exactly what Linkin Park were, angsty music for teenagers
>>60919195
BMTH and Breaking Benjamin isn't stuff from this generation, it dates back from the scene trend
>>60919195
Linking park wasn't angsty music for teens.. Rage Against the Machine was.. and Beck too to some extents

>>60919249

>>60919295

Twenty One Pilots
Death Grips, no question.
>>60919392
no one, NO ONE 1997+ even knows them
stop this meme
>>60918879
Obviously Death Grips.
>>60918879
FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM
>>60919375
probably this
anything that's aimed at teens with social political commentaries probably count as well, like Enter Shikari
>>60919412
I mean my little brother knows them because of me, but yeah.
>>60919375
They're too much better than Linkin Park though
You literally have no soul if you can listen to death grips and not see the difference. Death Grips is actually authentic. Linkin park is a bunch of try hards trying to be edgy. Death grips is one of bjorks favorite bands for a reason. I'd trust her taste over some random /mu/ pleb.
I would say Death Grips, but kids born in 1997 are 18 now so they're too old for Death Grips.

top kek man
to answer ops question some shitty metalcore band i guess
Death Grips
I was born in 1997. When I was in middle school and prime time edge time I listened to Mushroomhead, System of a Down, a little bit of Slipknot, shit like that. Hip hop started taking over though, I was listening to NWA, DANGERDOOM, Gravediggaz, Kanye (lol), Mos Def, and Nas to be edgy instead of the standard Linkin Park type edge music. Very refreshing, even though it was mostly older shit. Real trap shit, horrorcore, and 'intellectual hip hop' is the edge music of my high school years.
I mostly listen to black metal, psychedelic rock, math rock, and dream pop now. Ask me anything.
>bring me the horizon
I was gonna list more but I forgot them. Basically any band in the death core and metalcore genres.

>>60918988
I think by this you mean there's no mainstream or charting edgy band anymore, right?
