Hey /mu/.
I've recently developed an interest in buying a record player and listening to vinyl records.
My budget for a record player is at or below $100
Considering pic related

Yes. Don't.

Not a serious audiophile here. Not looking for A1 sound quality.
Are you referring to this specific record player?
>>
>>60909346
No. He's saying don't try to get into record collecting and buying a record player with $100 or below budget. You don't have to be an "audiophile". It's about not having a shitty Urban Outfitters turntable fuck up your records.

If you want to get into it, check out the wiki on the vinyl subreddit. Also have $500 or more ready and able to be spent. This isn't including the price of the records themselves.

Protip: Don't buy a turntable with built in speakers.
>>
>>60909346
Yes, it's absolute trash. If you're serious about it, spend a few weeks lresearching turntable mechanics, what makes it good, what antiskate / adjustable counterweight / p-mount vs full / cartridge types.. learn pretty much everything, and then buy a vintage one used (mine was $80). And if you didn't do enough research expect to get one with tons of problems.
If you rush into it you'll be very disappointed .
>>
>>60909208
DO NOT GET INTO VINYL IF YOU'RE A POOR MOTHAFUCKER
>>
Or search for a vintage player on craigslist. You can find em cheap too
>>
>>60909208
what this guys is saying >>60909253
is true. if you're on any budget at all drop the vinyl dude
>>
>>60909208
Anything without a counter weight will Dr Roy ur records
>>
>>60909208
this one's pretty great for the price, op.
>>
>>60909656
This, but just make sure it works when you buy it.
>>
>>60909546
>>60909838
But can you tell me why?
Are you saying that it will suck away the little money i have?
>>
>>60909963
>Are you saying that it will suck away the little money i have?
maybe.
maybe you'll even dislike your consumershit hobby after evaluating your funds. then you'll be left with plastic discs in cardboard
>>
>>60909963
That, but also a cheap turntable will literally destroy your records and sound like garbage, which defeats the whole purpose of having a record player.
>>
>>60909963
yes and cheap record players will fuck up your records

Okay boys, I've done a little research. Thanks to the anon who directed me to the vinyl subreddit.
Now looking at a Technics SL-DD22 on ebay $119 needs a new needle.
Am i getting warmer?

Also considering this DUAL CS 515 dirt cheap $31 missing the stylus holder/stand but otherwise no problems listed.
Thoughts?

Also note that i grabbed pics off of google. These aren't the ones for sale
>>
>>60910233
Way too expensive.
Ebay is usually way overpriced compared to anywhere else and that particular model isn't very good at all, I don't think it even can be adjusted.
Craiglist or thrift stores.
That second one for 31 might not be terrible since it's not like you are wasting much money.
>>
>>60910586
>that particular model isn't very good at all
But i'm getting closer right?
>>
>>60910648
yes, thank you for being so receptive, some people that ask the same questions just get mad at this point
>>
SL-1800/ SL-1200 on craigslist
>>
>>60910648
>But i'm getting closer right?
I guess.
Personally I wouldn't pay for that Technics more than 30 dollars.
I had it at one time and while it's "solid" it also sucks.
Personally I like to get ones that have problems that can be fixed.
The Pioneer Pl-7 can be had for less than 60 bucks and most of them have terrible speeds.
You can use deoxit to very very easily correct this.
Just saying, going vintage with just a little repair savy can make you save a lot of money.

Also go to audiokarma, they are more knowledgeable.
>>
>>60910674
No problem, thanks for the advice.
I've also found a Pioneer PL400 in working condition for $79
Do you know anything about this model?
>>
>>60910732
Damn, shipping is $30
>>
>>60910314
This is would be a really good turntable for you OP, Dual is a good brand
>>
be PATIENT and do this

Thanks for all the help guys. Looking like i might get a quality turntable for a reasonable price.
But damn, why do these cheap shitty ones look so good? I'm a slave to appearances, and this thing will be sitting in my house for (hopefully) years to come. I don't want some big ugly frankenstein sitting in the corner.
>>
>>60911026
It will break everything and trust me, it might look nice to you for a while but overtime it will make you feel terrible, knowing you bought something that destroys things just because it's pretty.
Basically get you one of these bulky cheap vintage ones, and years down if you like it you can get you a more expensive beautiful one like a marantz or something.
>>
>>60911026
the shitty cheap ones are made to look neat, thats really the only thing the money goes into
>>
>>60911071
>destroys things
Curious about this.
Just how fast does it destroy the records?
How significant is the difference between, say, a Crosley and a more quality vintage player in terms of wear-and-tear on the records?
>>
http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Stereo-Turntable/dp/B002GYTPAE

I started collecting vinyl a little bit back and got this, works great and won't destroy your records
>>
>>60911141
The needle places FAR too many grams on the record and the needle is ceramic.
It's not as fast as people say but there are two important points, records are expensive and you should treat them well, and that crosleys cannot be made to sound good while other record players have room to expand on.
There's also a video of a crosley literally shredding vinyl off of a record because it's tracking so heavily.
Just don't do it senpai.
>>
>>60911026
Yes you do anon, you'll be wishing for pic related after that mechanical garbage that is crosley tears end grooves at the beginning of your record.
>>
>>60911026

hey look like shit t b h
>>
>>60910869
sometimes. this one's nothing special though
>>
>>60911179
Thanks anon. I'll definitely look into this
>>
>>60911179

It's a lesser piece of shit than Crosley and Jensen, but it's still a piece of shit.

You need at least the AT-LP120.
>>
>>60911466
>but it's still a piece of shit.
If you say so bud, I haven't had any problems with mine nor has my friend from when we got into vinyl, sure he could get a 120 but the 60 is right on his price range and it's a good table for beginners
