How does /prod/ store its gear?

Pic related for me. I picked up this pistol case for $11. It had the "pull and pluck" foam and I cut it to fit my Tascam DP006, a shitty mic, and my Boss DR 670 drum machine.

I keep my stomp-boxes and cables on the top layer. Shit looks nice as fuck.

the only people that would need travel cases would be people that jam on the reg and touring musicians.

touring musicians don't actively post on /mu/ because they are touring.

people that jam on the reg eventually leave the gear at the jam space because setup sucks.

Any keyboard/synth player that has jammed on the reg knows this.

Therefore, people that use travel cases have intentions of jamming on the reg, but actually don't jam on the reg. If they did jam on the reg, they would have realized what a terrible investment travel cases are for just jamming on the reg.

storing unused mics is another story.

>>60906273
so many assumptions and implications. Touring cases are extremely expensive and generally are a waste of money, yes, but having things in cases to keep them clean and safe during storage and transport makes perfect sense. I'm not a gigging or jamming musician, i just play for myself at home, but I still keep my shit in cases to protect them over the years of moving, storage, dust, moisture, etc. I would never buy a $400 travel case for audio gear because my shit doesn't go through baggage check and bus stations. I just need something to keep my stuff organized and protected while on the shelf.

Can any TR-8 owners explain what the tune does on the BD and SD 808 sounds? On an actual 808 they are tone controls, the BD tone is like a filter on the click, and the SD one is like a tune and timbre change.
>>
Any Cubase users here?

While editing a certain part of a track, I set the loop section up and it works fine, but is there a way to skip to the start of the loop/play from the left indicator instantly? When i skip left, it always takes me to the start of the track (out of bounds of the loop area), which is really fucking annoying when I'm around 3 minutes in.

yeah the bd makes it get a lower pitch and same for the sd, at least on the tr8

I had been posting progress on making my subkick mic the last 3 days and now it's done. I kinda figure a lot of /prod/ are return customers and would have known what I was posting without much introduction. I was just fucking aorund with the bass (not playing anything specific) for the purposes of testing the mic out. It was a mic demo, not a bass demo.

I didn't really explain myself, whcih was my fault.

>>
>>60911154
Pretty good so far... But it lacks harmony. You need some chords in there, which is something neither the tr-8 and tb-3 can't provide
>>
Im very new to music production and i want to get a small keyboard for my computer to make melodies, do you guys have any recommendations that are relatively inexpensive? Also i need to get software, should i get FL studio 12?
>>
>use multiple pedals, synths, drum machines to make interesting sounds
>have no vision or idea of how to turn the sounds into a song
>no creative inspiration to figure out the progression of a sound
>end up just fucking around for hours and never recording any of it

like...it sounds good to me. but that's really all it is. they're good sounds without any context or place for them to fit together.

how do i break out of this?
i only have this problem when using physical instruments. i can easily crank out a track in a DAW and have no problems figuring out a track. but when it's me making all the sounds i just... don't know what to do with them.
>>
>>60911437
thanks its real repetitive and doesnt change much but i want to get some sort of synth for pads and chords eventually. the tr8 and tb3 together are fun to play with and to make short things on but with just the two you cant really make progressing chords. thanks for listening to it

>>60911327

The TR8 and the dark energy have usb inputs. IDK if they send audio through usb but they will send midi.

You can get a usb to midi cable then a midi split box to hook up the volcas and ms20.

Also one thing to note is that this is just for sending control data, not audio.

An interface is for connecting them to a computer.
You'll want a mixer to combine all their audio outputs to a single speaker or recording device and either a master controller like the Arturia Beatstep Pro or a way to sync them and run them individually. Manual sync like that varies depending on what the actually stuff in question is, it can get complicated.

Equator Audio D5s. Best ported monitors out there. Best customer service too.

Unported monitors are usually a lot more expensive, but I think they should be gunned for if you don't have a treated room.

There's a chapter in the Mixing Secrets book that explains the effect of bass porting on studio monitors, so you could understand the science behind it. Very interesting stuff.

Greetings fellows,

Since Live 9.5 came out, I had been meaning to try it. I stopped using the DAW months ago after switching to Bitwig. For this project, I finally bothered to check out the new features.

This is the result so far. I present to you....

Aardvarks In Backwards Pants!

v3

https://clyp.it/wvq2t2vn

All the beats are done by putting samplus into Simpler > Slice. Except for those rides there. I'm trying to and so far managing to not obsesses over mixing-related things and mostly sticking to basic things for that, for now.

P.S.: The transition at 2:00 is- Oh wait, there isn't any transition to really speak of. That's what I'm currently working on, so please forgive how rough it is at the moment.

Thank you.

It's good at piano roll. Free 32 <-> 64 plugin bridging.
It's shit at external synths. Default synths and effects are kinda shitty too.

ableton
>pros
session mode tends to force you to think in a non-linear way, unlike many other DAWs. also great for composing before you even have an idea. really good at having tons of audio segments, tracks, and ideas without feeling too unorganized.

>cons
interface is minimal, but the ugly kind of minimal

working with several lines of automation feels like Microsoft Office 1997
>>
>>60902837
thinking of getting a Behringer XenyxQ802USB, but the reviews that I've read so far state that you can't monitor the sound (by that I mean, hear it in the headphones connected) if you sent the signal to the mix. Is that true?

>If you push down to listen to the USB then the recording stops, So its either a record OR Listen desk - both do not work at the same time
quote from the thomann shop

Reading the reviews for the Xenyx802 I can't find a mention of this problem. Looking closer at the mixer I can see that on the 2track option on the USB model there's a "To Phones/Crtl Arm" instead of a "2TR to Control Room"

i'm a newbie when it comes to this and I don't want to fuck up badly with my first equipment.

thanks!

Renoise
>pros
easy to use, convenient workflow through keyboard shortcuts. sampling is amazing and there's lot of little things that make me go "oh cool, i didn't know i could do that" like the hydra for example.
the ui is great because i can see everything important that i need to see. well thought out desu
the native effects are hella tight, i find myself using them almost exlusively. just the occasional 3rd party delay or glitch stuff but even then the effect commands in renoise are pretty crazy if used right

>cons
the tracker interface isn't for everyone. you'll have to get used to hex codes. but once you get passed that, it's ez pz. It's very specific but too specific sometimes when you are trying to slice things and just gets very tedious.
no piano roll (this isn't a con for me but i can see it being a real issue for those dependent on such things)
playing live, can be done but ideally ableton live accels in this department

so either you love it or you hate it. i can't use anything else now since i know it quite well after 4 years
>>
https://clyp.it/g0m5yzfj

not the usual prod fare I'd post but I just put my guitar together again after like 2 years and it's so much fun.
>>
Im getting fed up with abletons lack of features that a modern daw should have. Is fl studio any good?
>>
>>60917379
What features are you looking for exactly?
>>
>>60917458
the main one is 32 bit support since jbridge is giving me a lot of issues. plus im getting plug in delay issues.
>>
>>60917379
Why don't you just switch back to 32bit ableton?
Everything else sounds like user error
>>
>>60917529
i have a few 64 bit only plug ins, plus the fact that i can use more than 4GB of ram while producing.

It just really pissed me off that they didnt implement support in patch 9;5
>>
>>60917546
Well, I'd say just work with what you've got... Switching daws in the worst thing you can do for your productivity
>>
>>60917379
FL Studio is nice, especially if you've worked with drum machines and shit. The piano roll is a godsend too.

What's like, the best way to approach making a song? I hear all these songs and vibes and styles I like (within the future bass genre) and I want to create similar music but I don't even know where to begin with it

yo go techno
>>
>>60918661

>>
>>60918661
It's pretty repetitive and lacks any direction.

>>60918722
For future bass, you need to understand at least a bit of 90's RnB production and modern trap stuff. Raw waveforms are your friends when it comes to sound design, most of what you hear in the genre is based on simple Sawtooths, Squares or Sines.
>>
>>60918734
jeah i know
should i throw more shit on it and see if somethings sticks?
or just give up try somting new?
or killmyself?
>>
>>60918807
kill yourself, then try again. Like your beat doesnt progress
>>
Been working on this for a few weeks, is it too repetitive?
https://clyp.it/g0dspfic

>>60918661
Learn how to compress your sounds and spice up your drum patterns, like don't be afraid to throw some hi hat rolls or some offbeat kicks in. It makes for a much more dynamic and interesting composition. As it is it's pretty plain, add in some synths or another melody or something. There isn't really any tension or progression in it.

>>60918722
There's no real, concrete, correct way to approach it. I find it's best to think of a cool chord progression or melody first and build the song around it. As for future bass it's a lot of very tight, funky ass modulated basslines and crisp percussion sounds. Break down the elements of what you like about a track (for instance, how do the percussion sounds interact with and contrast with the deep bass sounds?) and try to replicate them.
>>
>>60918825

Kind of considering an 88 key midi keyboard. Not sure if anyone here has any expierence with either, but which is better between the M-Audio Keystation 88 or the Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller? Or is there a better third alternative around the same price I should consider?

You'll want to make sure midi mono is turned off.
>>
>>60920760
Actually, there's a pretty neat, relatively unknown trick. If you take two mono midi tracks and pan them respectively hard left and right, you'll get stereo midi!
The downside is you have to get a special DIN 10pin cable.
>>
>>60919042
Why do you want an 88 key?
>>
>>60920949
The ol' hard panning midi trick, almost forgot about that!

Gives midi so much more depth
>>
>>60919042
If you're considering 88key you might as well go full weighted. Maybe you'll brush up on your piano skills.
>>
>>60920978
You gotta be careful about phasing though. Maybe try mid/side midi processing.
>>
>>60920954

I only have a 25 key and non-midi 61 key, I feel like 88 with midi would be nice, unless you think it's unnecessary.

>>60920979
Yeah, that's something to consider if the price is right, however I'd be fine with just at least pressure sensitivity and midi support. You're right though weighted keys probably could go a long way for learning piano though.
>>
>>60921191
88 key is just huge and pricey... Unless you are a piano player, your never going to use all of those keys at once.

But if you are a pianist, don't get a midi controller. Get a used 88 key synth/keyboard from the 80s/90s with midi. Most likely built better and much cheaper.

Center generally, but a nice trick is to put a short stereo delay to pull it out of the center without ruining the symmetry of the mix. It's called the Haas Effect, whichever side hits the ear first is where you perceive the sound's direction. Obviously not only used for vocals, but it's a good compromise between panning and leaving something in the center.

Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense. I'm still learning structuring and arranging to be honest. For the longest all I knew was the bass follows the drums. My biggest problems right now is that something is always off sync or the finished song feels likes it's missing something.
