its really good. i like that jazzy hip hop is coming back onto the music scene. However, while the tracks may be compelling, i just cant really dig his vocal style. Still i like the album. id say its like a 7/10
"new slaves" was slept on soooo hard just because it was kanye it made it easier to dismiss or make fun of.
but if kendrick made that same song, people would be rioting in the streets, going crazy.

Do we really need another trap rapper though? I feel like Joey is one of a few good rappers still rapping over 90s beats and that's pretty unique about him.

i agree, i don't think any sort of trap or futuristic beats would suit him. it would be nice if he could rap over something that takes the attitude and spirit and properties of 90s hip-hop, but updated a bit more.

Although I think he'll always be a New York boom bap rapper, which is totally fine, it's nice to see him experimenting and stepping out of his comfort zone.

Honestly I feel like that's what he's been doing for a while now. This new style of hip-hop that's been popular in NY right now (FBZ, Underachievers, Pro Era, etc) reminds me of a much more modern version of old school boom bap. Much less dusty and grimey.
