you are okay, great number one pick. Haven't really gotten into Radiohead (yet), and don't really care for The Descendents (mostly due to their horrible album covers).

>>60897424
>Interstellar Overdrive - Pink Floyd
one of my all-time favourites, too, definitely in my Top 20.
The other picks are pretty good as well. Fuck off with that "Album - Artist" shit, though.

Except you can't give me one bad feature about either of those songs or albums for that matter - you just want to use your spork and pretend you're patrician
>>
>>60898057
Race for the Price has really cheesy lyrics and those synthetic string sound like shit, it's one of the worst songs on TSBS, it also is really predictable melody-wise. Earthmover is overdone with that shoegaze finale, I will admit that it's not awful tho, just not the best Post-Punk has to offer. Enought validation for you?

Red House Painters- Medicine bottle
Joanna newsom- Emily
King Crimson- 21st century madman

>Enough validation for you?

yeah - that you haven't got a clue.

It isn't predictable melody-wise at all, the tape loop Drozd made for the main melody was hand-modified, and that piercing synth sound can't be replicated using an instrument. I usually don't like synthetic MIDI strings but on the Soft Bulletin they sound flawless - in fact I'd go so far as to say that it's the best they've ever been used in a pop context. The lyrics are fantastic, and really have Wayne's narrative footprint all over them, which you clearly haven't got used to, and to top it off, the drums sound fantastic.

>piercing synth sound can't be replicated using an instrument
It doesn't matter what kind of synth they used, that doesn't change that the melody is very reminiscent of 60s baroque pop (see: Van Dyke Parks). You can find it enjoyable, but the melody definitely is a throwback (compared for example to "Heroes and Villains".
>best MIDI strings
Ah, I would say they were only really used well on "The Queen is Dead". TSB would have sounded a lot better with real strings, would have added grandeur.
>Wayne's narrative footprint
I think you mean that whole metaphor of the race between the scientists, the struggle "nihilism/human worthlessness vs. love". I think that Wayne's feigned innocence ruins their attempt at these big philosphical themes.
>>
>>60899372
That's where you're wrong. unlike most psychedelic pop revivalists of 1990's I'd say that the Flaming Lips went the absolute opposite direction and instead of following either a Beach Boys or Van Dyke Parks baroque pop melody approach they took to doing something entirely new melodically - a lot like parts of the Zaireeka experiment.

I'd also say the MIDI strings perfectly fit the Soft Bulletin, and considering that you thought they were used well on a Smiths album, again, I'd have to disagree.

If we're not concentrating on the philosophical themes, and instead the actual content of the lyrics, the simplification of "they're just humans with wives and children" perfectly compliments the song no? I also have no idea what you're talking about with Wayne's "feigned innocence" he has literally always written lyrics in the same way
