What albums and EPs do you guys think were unfairly overlooked this year? I'll start:
Algiers- s/t
Ava Luna- Infinite House
Ratking- 700 FILL
US Girls- Half Free
Monophonics- The Sound of Sinning
Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters
>>60888858
Solid 8
This desu senpai
Algiers' s/t is one step away from Imagine Dragons in terms of lazy theatricality.
As for Monophonics, I encouraged a lot of people to listen to it when it first came out. It's definitely Top 3 for me.
mewithoutYou - Pale Horses (actually AOTY)
toe - Hear You
L'Orange & Jeremiah Jae - The Night Took Us In Like Family
The Tallest Man on Earth - Dark Bird is Home
A$AP Rocky - At Long Last A$AP (literally the only worthwhile album he's ever made)
>>60888998
toe. reminded me that some good shit came out of Japan this year.
Tricot- A N D
My Dead Girlfriend - Hades: The Nine Stages of Change At The Deceased Remains
Especia- Primera (even if you don't care for J-Pop, this is a fucking jam)
>>60889069
I haven't listened to any of those. I didn't check them out cause they're jap, i checked them out cause i stumbled across that Song Silly music video and found it mesmerising.
>>60889165
Tricot is also math rock. You may dig them if you like toe. My Dead Girlfriend is some excellent shoegaze and Especia is a vaporwave inspired idol group.
>>60888998
i found dark bird is home to be pretty disappointing, but the jeremiah jae album is for sure a fantastic album
2015 has been a shit year for music.
Does anyone else feel like this is one of the best hip-hop albums of the year?
some records I liked that I haven't seen much talk of:
daye jack, soul glitch ep
elza soares, a muhler do fim do mundo
jazz cartier, marauding in paradise
l'orange and jeremiah jae collab
quelle chris, innocent country
tory lanez, cruel intentions
underachievers, art of duality
all hip hop outside of that elza soares one, which is like, I dunno, something foreign but it's really good you can trust me anon
>>60888858
>Ava Luna
MY NIGGA
Algiers is also a great album. Gonna give those other albums you listed a shot too since it looks like our taste lines up.
I'm surprised pic related didn't get more traction on here. I think Skullsplitter by Eric Chenaux is an album more people should check out, too.
>>60888858
I thought it was a decent 6-7/10
Not amazing but enjoyable
>>60889234
The quality of Kristian's songwriting hasn't really gone down at all, he's just shifted from writing songs in a Dylan-esque vein to writing songs in a Simon-esque vein. And anything that reminds me of Paul Simon is a good thing. (Well, anything except Vampire Weekend.)
The only way i could see people being turned off by that album would be if they if they don't like Paul Simon (so in other words, they're miserable fucks) or they don't like the production, which isn't exactly ill-fitting for the music, but that's an understandable gripe that i could see people having.
>>60889356
I was never a huge fan of The Tallest Man on Earth, but I really digged Dark Bird is Home. Also, another one for the list. Jackrabbit has some of the year's loveliest moments. The dude that sings on this album sounds like Great Value brand Matt Beringer, but it works t b h.
>>60889973
I liked the dude's tracks quite a bit (I'm a big fan of the National and your Berninger comparison is accurate) but iirc there are tracks where he doesn't sing and they all just fell reaaally flat for me
I /might/ be thinking of a different San Fermin record though, but still good vocalist though I don't care for anything else
>>60889273
YES
>>60888858
Yours and pic related for me.
>>60888895
especially since the thread does ask for EPs, did you hear this from September?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkGfdwBMXns
>>60891104

so dang good
>>60888858
700 fill was such shit. You know they wrote it in 4 days?
>>60891189

>>60889309
Listening to soul glitch now.
Elvis Depressedly - New Alhambra
>>60889273
>>60890048
Czarface is better.
provide download links
>>60889069
Hades was so fucking good, seriously 3rd or 4th in AOTY contention
This was way better than I expected it to be, super underrated for how good it was.
>>60891473
interesting I just took it out of my stereo actually but I'll put it back in and keep trying. not that it was all bad but some of it didnt exactly go down that smoothly. I dont think I really remember any specifics though.
Blackbird Raum - Destroying
Go Dark - BrightWild
Gregory Pepper & His Problems - Chorus! Chorus! Chorus!
Maths - The Fires Courting the Sea
Locrian - Infinite Dissolution
offthesky & Pleq - A Thousand Fields
William Ryan Fritch - Revisonist
>>60891510
Honestly my first couple listens, I wasn't very impressed too. Sounded like he's just done a lot of over the top stuff and was confusing as fuck. But I've slowly grown to really dig the arrangements, the sound design, pretty much everything about it.
You Don't Know Me is my personal SOTY
>>60891580
yeah I'm getting into it
cool video too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL35e5mwD5I

>>60891548
I forgot Destroying came out this year. Damn good album. Blackbird Raum is probably the best folk punk act out there right now.
>>60891642
I've failed to find something similar to this album tho, got any recs?
Don Vedda Ep

>>60891739
maybe a bit of a stretch and a bit smoother but
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fG8Z-b3z4Y
>>60891189
I love this album too. AOTY? No. 7.5/10? Yes.
Ive been jamming this everyday for about a week.
>>60891548
Nice. Your last two are in my top 10 of this year and Revisionist might be my number 1
>>60891779
Yep I've already heard this record. Good choice of song though, was my favorite off it
underrated is a pretty arbitrary term but
Black Wing - ...is doomed
Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle
GY!BE - Asunder, Sweet
King Woman - Doubt
Tamaryn - Cranekiss
Spencer Radcliffe - Looking In
>>60891658
I haven't found a single flaw in this album, quite well made.
>>60891104
Didn't know this came out, thanks a lot.
>>60891189
This was alright.
>>60891198
eh. Both Slime Seasons 1 and Barter 6 were much better.
>>60891883
Definitly King Woman - Doubt
Blanck Mass - Dumb Flesh is obscenely underrated here
Nickelus F & Shawn Kemp - Trick Dice
Toundra - IV
Akkord - HTH035
This album is dope.
I can rec you something based on your taste
>>60891189
it's amazing how quickly /mu/ forgot about it, i thought it was really great noise pop/synth punk
>>60888858
Algiers sounds like fucking shit.
>>60896880
recommend me something somber, melancholic, existential, lonely, thought provoking, mind expanding.
Pic very related, psych folk/rock with Eels-esque vocals and occasional drone/ambient/field recording textures thrown around

ONLY ONE RIGHT ANSWER
>>60896995
Wow, this sounds overblown and stupid. completely missing the subtlety that made their earlier stuff good.
>>60896995
especially in that second song, it feels like it's building up to something, but it never really resolves the tension it builds. It just has those sort of tension building drums to give it more of a sense of significance. It's so annoying.
>>60896993
Jerusalem in my Heart - If he dies, if if if if if if
>Arabic folk music with drone, electroacoustic and ambient elements
Circuit des Yeux - In Plain Speech
>electronic, avant-pop, baroque pop with deep female vocals
>>60891351
It's pretty good. Not my favourite thing this year but he's got a nice sound, and I think he's def worth paying attention to to see where he goes.
>>60896880
fuckin macula dog man
>>60891747
I'm not much into folk, but this is some very good cover art.
