Why does he not review jazz albums or classical works out of ten like he does with rock albums?
literally who
>>60871491
he doesn't rate anything out of ten, he rates them out of 9.5, since that's the highest rating he'll give.
he's a pretentious fuck
because you can't put a solid number on actual art like you can with rock music
>>60871753
>>60871501
He doesn't usually rate lower than 3.5 too though.
>>60871491
because he acknowledges that he iis lacking the understanding for it. Stick to his rock reviews.
Is that conan o brain?
>>60871498
Piero Scaruffi
I've known for years that this dude has laughable opinions on rock/pop records but his jazz recommendations are straight fucking fire. This cannot be understated.
>>60871786
he's given 2/10 to many albums
>>60871803
but he has ranked lists of what he considers the best jazz albums and best symphonies, how is that any different?
>>60871786
so basically he rates out of 7 on a scale of 3.5 to 9.5? how meme can you get?
>>60871807
Think about how much you ACTUALLY know about jazz and then think about what you just said.
>>60871807
i feel exactly the opposite of you
>>60871868
this 2bh
>>60871816
Yeah, because his autism forces to rank his favorite shit.
>>60871726
lmao
He doesn't really know that much about classical music
Because he reviews rock music on the degree to which it adheres to the term "art", he believes most if not all of rock(contemporary music) is not wholly art i.e not original and authentic self expression.
>>60871491
Because he has nothing to say about those genres that hasn't been said before, unlike with rock music where he was probably the first critic to review rock music that wasn't popular.
>>60872788
>he was probably the first critic to review rock music that wasn't popular.
According to who?
Based on what?
>>60872813
He was a rock critic.
Reviewed unpopular rock music.
There is a lack of evidence of a critic doing the same thing as him before he did.
>>60871818
most albums are within that range
>>60871491
This is Scaruffi's top 15 jazz albums. What are yours? /mu/
>his top 100
http://www.scaruffi.com/jazz/best100.html
>>60872976
Compared to his top rock albums this is far more standard, except that he likes free jazz a lot.
>>60871491
If he did, do you think Scruffy would give the Black Saint and the Sinner Lady a 10, or a 9.5 like Trout Mask?
>>60872573
>He doesn't really know that much about classical music
This, pretty much.
>>60874740
probably a 9.5
see >>60872787
maybe he would give a 10/10 to #1 here though: http://www.scaruffi.com/music/symphony.html
>>60875266
who does?
>>60871818
what even is math
>>60874740
He gave it a 9.5
It could be seen somewhere on the archives of his page.
>>60875309
I do, more so than him. Other musicologists and music theorists know even more.
>>60875293
what's the deal with 9th symphonies anyway?
>>60875464
Thoughts on http://www.scaruffi.com/music/symphony.html then?
>>60875619
>http://www.scaruffi.com/music/symphony.html
Impossible to assess without a definition of "best". Clearly, influence or impact as an "opus" in the Hegelian sense cannot be the sole criterion of this list, as well-known and extremely influential pieces are juxtaposed with less-well-known pieces, that would be included in a list governed by aesthetic judgements.
>>60872573
He doesn't know that much about anything
>>60875786
He does know a lot about rock music and non-rock non-jazz popular music from the first half of the 20th century.
>>60871491
just read his wiki, and holy shit! always thought you fuckers were serious about this guy, not that he was some mayor music aspie.
