What bands are from your area?
Have a Nice Life is from the town right next to mine
Me too.
Pretty much the only good band in contemporary Connecticut.
Cocteau Twins are from my town.
Brave Little Abacus was here. There's a lot of stuff in Willimantic
CT BOIs

>>60867284
>>60867316
pretty surreal having bands get famous right under our noses
at least I think so
>>60867323
I'd like to think the best bands come out of shitty situations
grunge and queensryche
>>60867116
Arcade Fire
plus they kinda wrote Suburbs about the town itself
>>60867390
yeah. especially as youre growing up and you think about what you were doing as a kid while they are becoming more popular.
does that make sense
>>60867116
Brand new formed in my town
Wild Nothing are from my town. There's a substantial bluegrass scene around here that I'm just now starting to appreciate
from my hometown in South Dakota: literally nothing
in DC, where I live now: all the hardcore bands people know and love. I'm not really into Fugazi though (if I'm listening to hardcore I like it less poppy/more chaotic.) Favorite local band is probably Paperhaus (and Priests if they count, although they're actually known outside the area)
Rick James and the Goo Goo Dolls
not alot comes from Kansas, but thanks to this thread, I looked into it and discovered this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya9Hr40v1k8
Nouns is from my hometown
>>60867990
oh, i'm so sorry
Drive Like Jehu
Unwritten Law
Blink-182
some more I can't remember / not gonna add
>>60867999
Ehh I actually kind of like their music. Plus they're way better than anything else in the area. The most famous artists from my area are Evanescence and American Idol winner Kris Allen (who is actually a semi-distant relative of mine)
Same town as Slint, they have pop-up reunions sometimes here which are hype as fuck
Phantogram are from a town near me.... not sure who else..
>>60867323
is it a shite being scottish?
Cheap Trick from my hometown
>>60867390
yeah, it's weird. i actually have met the black keys various times - they're sort of like distant family friends - which makes it even more surreal
>>60867284

The wonder years went to the same high school as me
The Killers
Jimmy Eat World and Authority Zero are both from my town. The drummer for Authority Zero substituted one of my classes once when I was in Jr high, he said he did that in his off time when they weren't touring.

>>60872277
No I wasn't into them when they were still around. Not sure what our music scene is like anymore, I know we have King Krule now but that's all. I don't live in Willimantic, just a nearby rural farm town
>>60868818
>All of Elephant 6 is from your home town
It must feel great
Bruce Springsteen is from a couple towns over from where I live, which is pretty alright I guess.
Struggling to think of a specific group, but Flying Nun records started off in the town where I was born.

There's no scene in CT because there's nothing in CT. Even across the border in Mass is better.
>>60869151
>CT is great for music
There's like no real decent venues in CT, it's weird.
>>60867116
GY!BE, Grimes, Tim hecker, arcade fire
>>60867116
>>60874506
By the way, Have A Nice Life isn't really that much of a CT band, As far as I know they've only played 2 shows, one in NYC, and another in Amherst Mass.
They're not even a touring band, it's two guys who made music as a hobby, and are not active at all with gigging musicians.
>>60867990
Arkansas mutants unite
Neil Young grew up around here but technically it's not where he was born. Anyway, according to RYM, the only artists I've listened to from my area are Kittens, Venetian Snares, The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
The toadies
>>60874403
>Prog, yuck, I bet no prog rock band ever got a BNM. I'm 19 years old and I just discovered mainstream-alternative indie music. I'm so much cooler than all those 17 year old plebs listening to prog

Modern Life is war is from just a town over. Slipknot also and then a TON of local hardcore and college bands.
Have a Nice Life and Giles Corey I guess.
Not a lot of good musicians come from CT, considering our capital is a dull grey hub for methadone clinics and insurance corporations, and almost everything else is just full of hicks and trees.
>mfw I live in the boondocks
>mfw every band from around is either shitty country or some shoddy rock cover band
It feels terrible tbhfam
Was born in Austin but I don't think anyone all that notable is truly from Austin honestly. Every time I go to Austin and see random live music I think more and more that's it's just the "shitty indie capitol of the world". I'm sure there's tons of importance to country music that Austin has but I'm not a fan of country.
SRV, St. Vincent and Usher are from Dallas. SRV made a lot of fame in Austin to be fair though.
Dimmu Borgir

Ever seen the Electric Trains? They play at the food coop sometimes. Pretty funny imo
>>60875415
Middlefield has less to do than the rest of CT - and that's quite an accomplishment. It has negative things to do.
Beat Happening, Nirvana, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, The Microphones
Tijuana.
Nortec.
Guided By Voices is from Dayton, Ohio
Foxy Shazam and Walk The Moon. Those are the main big ones
>tfw there is no scene in your town.
