OP, go listen through InnerSpeaker if you haven't already.
>>
>>60838978
Good album, Kevin Parker looks like such a faggot though, he needs to eat a burger or cut his damn hair
>>
>>60839347
the only reason a person would like currents is because they're too young to have heard the blatant plagiarism from 80's music
there's nothing original on the album
>>
>>60839347
>acting like Currents is a barometer of taste

Fuck you. I'm okay with people liking Currents even though I was really disappointed by it but fuck you.
>>
>>60839437
Why did it disappoint you? I thought it was a bit better than innerspeaker, but falls way far behind Lonerism.
>>
>>60839426
jesus....... im having a hard time properly responding to this because i cant stop thinking about how retarded you are if you actually think like that. Its a celebration of 80's elements if anything and it does a great job of making it listenable in 2015. You must just be too fucking old and think that anybody experimenting with elements of another era must be stealing from your sacred old man songs.
>>
>>60840337
Name something original on currents

Great thread so far.

Anyways, I'd recommend AnCo and Of Montreal.

Let it happen, nangs, disciples, new person same old mistakes. Name a song or melody or whatever that you think is plagiarized. Blending psyche and 80's music isnt a very common thing to do desu

Explain what is original about those songs.

You overvalue originality.

Quality >>> originality, and Currents is a neo-psych album of the highest quality.

"Pristine" is probably the best word that i'd use to describe that album.
>>
>>60841769
you do realize that originality and quality tend to go hand in hand except for people so adept at fusing and molding their sources of influence a la Bowie right

Curtis Mayfield - Superfly
Yvonne Fair - The Bitch is Black
James Brown - Black Caesar
Miles Davis - On the Corner (no joke)

Eddie Hazel's first record is essential funk

This is a stretch but I love noise rock or math rock with "good" lyrics. If you like 2000's punk i highly recommend this album.

funnily enough, you want the first track off >>60841951, along with Loren Mazzacane Connors - Airs

>good lyrics

real subjective, but I love the Jesus Lizard's lyrics. Goat AND Liar are must haves

also Bauhaus - In the Flat Field has a lot of noise rock moments AND quality lyrics
>>
>>60842021

good recs brother, i think i've heard all of those though. definitely heard the jesus lizard and my dad loves bauhaus but i haven't given them the same chance. will download some.

D e f l e c t i o n. And to answer, the way he blends psyce, 80's pop, hip hop effortlessly. Nothing sounds exactly like those songs, not that i even think pure originality is necessary. The mixing is great too.
>>
>>60842129
>D e f l e c t i o n.
No, I'm asking you to actually justify your opinions.
>And to answer, the way he blends psyce, 80's pop, hip hop effortlessly.
I barely hear anything psych or hip hop in Currents so I don't understand what you are hearing that I'm not.
>Nothing sounds exactly like those songs
Nothing sounds exactly like anything, that doesn't mean that plenty of 80's pop sounds extremely similar.
>>
>>60842166
Yea plenty of 80's songs you cant name. You really cant hear the hip hop influence in nangs, new person same old mistakes, or eventually?
>>
>>60842242
>Yea plenty of 80's songs you cant name.
I've heard them I just don't know their names. Plenty of them are sampled in vaporwave.
>You really cant hear the hip hop influence in nangs, new person same old mistakes, or eventually?
Not enough to definitively call them hip hop.

Albums I liked this year:

UMO - Multilove
Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated at Last
Wavves - V

Was disappointed by:

Tame Impala - Currents
Mac Demarco - The Way You Love Her
Ty Segall - Manipulator
Wavves/Cloud Nothings - No Life For Me

Anyone got any good lo-fi/garage/psychedelic suggestions?
>>
>>60842750
oh shit also Edwin Starr - War and Peace

Edwin Starr was who got me into soul/R&B/funk with his song War because it was in Small Soldiers which i loved as a kid

>>60842856
White Fence
Coachwhips - Bangers vs. Fuckers
if you want a lil' bit of garage rock meets surfy multipart harmonies, Motel Beds - Mind Glitter is your 2015 listen you need to make
