Yes, they have a certain image and yes, that image can be off-putting. There's a reason some of these so, so vile pop 40 artists are so famous, and it's their image. That's how important it is. Some of them like Miley Cyrus get by almost entirely on that. It can make or break an artist's appeal overall. Not the music's, but the artist's.
It really bothers me how a lot of these bandcamp stars put no effort into that at all and either look like affeminate men or dirty basement dwellers.
I feel like this thread is essentially /mu/ in a nutshell.
