You can't tell someone that sound doesn't take you to the 80s with a straight face

An artist with a more modern, even though still retro take, Touch Sensitive:

You haven't listened to either good vaporwave or refuse to admit the idea that it might not be for you.

Giorgio Moroder is synth wave now?

Remember retrowave is the modern "flavor" of it, but synthwave has existed since the 80s

New stuff is great. You'd probably prefer that retrofuturistic cars like the Camaro and Mustang didn't exist either. What a pretentious faggot.
>>
>>60809626
>I don't know what "pretentious" means
>>
>>60809690
>i project
you're pretentious because you operate under the pretense that new synthwave is somewhat inferior to old synthwave or that it's just "more of the same". It's like saying modern hard rock bands shouldn't exist because the 80s and 90s were full of them and we can still listen to the old stuff if we want to.
>>
>>60809800
But there was never enough depth to it to begin with to warrant endless exploration. It had a limited shelf life for a good reason. Additionally, it's only done now as an inauthentic retro fetishist kind of thing. That pretty much rules out any substantial new contribution or advancement; what defines it was already set in stone 30 years ago.
>>
>>60809905
>it's only done now as an inauthentic retro fetishist kind of thing
>implying it isn't younger people that got exposed to it and loved the sound
>implying there isn't modern sounding stuff that still manages to evocate the 80s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fDvxlK2FMc
I started listening to Lazerhawk, then I knew Carpenter Brut, and ended up loving Giallo films, watching Drive and playing Hotline Miami. I was always fond of the 80s synth sound though, from playing Vice City when I was younger and watching stuff like Miami Vice. Retrowave has been growing for years, specially in France.

While I do enjoy synthwave, it's really fucking hard to find the real good stuff.
Most artists are just trying to replicate the already known ones.
Thousands and thousands of "gritty cyberpunkish Perturbator-like" songs from artists who don't know shit about shit and shitting out albums every fucking month or even week.
I have yet to find an artist that takes inspiration from the likes of Jan Hammer or Vangelis.
>>
>>60810242
nice one, faggot
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0qBaBb1Y-U
>>60810270
are you for real? NewRetroWave churns out awesome stuff constantly.
Also Perturbator is great.
Try this for a more Hammer-esque style:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Og5ZEt-MKE
>>
>>60810469
I didn't mean that Perturbator was bad. I love Perturbator.
It's just that I feel that most artists are just trying to rip-off everyone else that is well-known by going with the same hard-synth cyberpunk style.
There are other elements and styles of the 80s to explore other than the cyberpunk one.
>>
>>60810627
>It's just that I feel that most artists are just trying to rip-off everyone else that is well-known by going with the same hard-synth cyberpunk style.
>There are other elements and styles of the 80s to explore other than the cyberpunk one.
oh, I agree. Cyberpunk is one of the elements that are seen in retrowave and weren't seen often in old synthwave though.
But you're right, most stuff is "hard retrowave".
More "soft" stuff:

This is the sort of stuff I'm looking for. Also, I've listened to Tommy's stuff before. It's great.
>>
>>60810846
will give that a listen. I think there's plenty of soft stuff but most sounds like 80s synthpop (see sunglasses kid above) and it's great, but there's not a lot of Jan Hammer inspired stuff.
