>tfw Downtown Battle Mountain was released when I was in the 6th grade
>didn't know about them because of the reggaeton craze that swept through San Bernardino
>discovered them in the 8th grade when I moved to South Carolina
no ragrets
My favorite song on Instant Gratification would have to be Stroke God Millionaire 2bh
I only knew this because when I asked my dad what good music was he told me the best stuff he ever listened to when he was my age was progressive rock like genesis.

Can't understand of people listen to that kind of "metal"

Honestly I really never got over them switching out Jonny the first time. I understand they had to but goddamn their first ep and DTBM1 are just ungodly beautiful and everything after that seemed like just an attempt to get back to it.
Even DTBM2 felt that way, and come to think of it, that album actually came out while I was in 8th grade. Preordered it and everything, I was so excited to hear Jonny with them again. But it just wasn't the same to be honest

I feel that each singer made each album different in little ways, personally I like how with Kirt they went a little more funky especially on Happiness, the one album I really don't like as much is Acceptance Speech but everything else is pretty good to me
It was this and Insomniac by Green Day

Agreed. Kurt is undeniably talented. I just loved Jonny so fuckin much. I still don't understand why people rip on DGD so much. They were the band that got me into real actual alternative music as a kid, outside of generic scene-core, though they brushed shoulders with that scene constantly.
It's weird to think that I used to listen to this shit way back...
How old is 8th grade? 14-15?

I guess it's because of the frequent lineup changes, what really drew me to them was their solid basslines. Jason Ellis went nuts on Happiness haha. But I couldn't believe how I didn't know about them sooner since I was into the The Fall of Troy too

13-14 I think.
I also really liked Muse - Black Holes and Revelations and MGMT - Oracular Spectacular back then.
