Hey guys. Are we in agreement that shugazi also includes ambient pop, slowcore, some space rock and some neo-psych?
Also. You'll want to listen to this.
Purple Pilgrims - Purple Pilgrims

Why is this so good?
>>60803400
Cause lo-fi shoegaze generally is. Wish their songs were longer though.

dream pop
>>60802390
I don't agree. Dream pop is already a vague enough category as it is. Space rock/neopsych that are gazey belong here because shoegaze. Ambient pop and slowcore that are also dream pop count because dream pop. But if you wanted to talk about Red House Painters, for example, this wouldn't be the place. Generals should be more focused than that, it's why you have a general in the first place, and we're muddy enough already.
>>60804050
Already heard it.

Sounds cool,thanks for the rec

Port St. Willow - Syncope
Someone posted it on here a few days ago and it's great. I don't have a DL link but here's a YT link to give you a taste at least. It's on Spotify as well.

Thanks, I'll give it a few listens
Is op's pic ambient pop? I'm trying to tag it right but I done know enough about ambient pop to confidently say whether it is or not.
>>60802390

yes

would be great tbqh but no
>some space rock
just the most distorted ones, like Kairon; IRSE!

if it's lo-fi/distorted then yeah

fucking GREAT album

>>60805950
nice
Long time no see, /shugazi/, came here to tell you guys I found a somehow-obscure shoegaze album (as I usually spend my time finding new albums) and GOD IT'S FUCKING GREAT. The world needs more depressing slowcore/shoegaze. Slowgaze?
Anilore - Still Awake (1998)
>Shoegaze, Slowcore, Dream Pop, Ambient, Lo-Fi, Space Rock
>Bandcamp: http://anilore.bandcamp.com/album/still-awake (didn't find a DL, currently staying at an Inn so can't upload it, found it on soulseek though)
by the way just found they released another album in 2014 and it's free on their bandcamp page
post more depressing slowgaze
>>60804043
I've got that record
singer is a hottie
I'm trying to into shogaze. Where do I go from here?
>>60804043
Yes. One of my all timers. Probably why I dislike MBV so much. Came to shoegaze through C U R V E. Sort of a backdoor...
>>60808498
Ride - Going Blank Again
Slowdive - Souvlaki
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Asobi Seksu - Citrus
Kairon; IRSE! - Ujubasajuba
>Are we in agreement that shugazi also includes ambient pop, slowcore, some space rock and some neo-psych?
idk how indeh guitar music obsessed do you want to keep these threads, but in any case if you're talking about dream pop, it would be inaccurate to treat it as merely the more poppier cousin of shoegaze, when in reality it does encompass alot of what you mentioned as well as a huge bunch of other stuff since the 80s like ethereal wave, some post-punk, some new wave, some electronic music, some mainstream pop and whatnot. Trying to strictly define dream pop would be like defining electropop from an NME-core point of view as synthpop revival or something.
>>60808620
>disliking MBV
>liking posers more than them
are you crazy?
Will any song ever be as perfect as 桜花?

That's a Toni Halliday solo song from BEFORE she was in C U R V E. She was a back up singer for Robert Plant...
I don't get your point? She was supposed to sleep in a cardboard box on the streets of Dublin to get cred?

I'm sorry that violin/synth bit sounds super cheesy. I enjoy their music in general, though. I thought Aquatic was an improvement.
>>60812477
>>60804050
Isn't that album just an empty void and some cheap sounding guitar noodles soaked in digital reverbs?
>>60812584
>I'm sorry that violin/synth bit sounds super cheesy.
I thought that too, but the song's grown on me. As for people who compare them to Ride and that one song, I honestly don't hear that much of a similarity. Their songs are much more atmospheric and noisy than Ride's. It's like Lilys being compared unfavorably with MBV.

Sheeit, it's a long drive, but it's not too, too far. I bet I could get something signed.
Hey /shugazi/ what do you think of presents for sally? Just found them on spotify
>>60813977
They're good but have a very 80s sound, at least on their LP. I don't really like it when my shoegaze bands have too much of an '80s rock' vibe but some of their tracks are killer so I guess they're p cool

>>60803400
the new split they put out is really good too
what does /shugazi/ think of pic related
>>60814572
Love it. That, Electropura, and And Then Nothing are comfy as hell.
>>60814572
One of my favorite albums. The closing track is absolutely beautiful, and their version of The Whole of the Law is one of the best covers I've ever heard.
Favorite track off of this?

So are we going to just ignore the fact that The Flaming Lips just dropped the live album of the year?
The new edition of Clouds Taste Metallic (9.1 BNR) comes with a live disc (2 LPs) featuring a legendary show from 1996. This lineup of the group featured Ronald Jones, a guitar effects wizard with synesthesia, and the album accurately reproduces the inviting and catchy noise pop magic that he created live. The live versions of these songs are fantastic, both rougher in arrangement and yet that much more vibrant with some great embellishments with cool new bits and textures. Jones blows Johnathan Donahue (ex-Lips guitarist and frontman of Mercury Rev) out of the water with material from In a Priest-Driven Ambulance. It's so great to hear Young Wayne, whether he's telling a strange stories in-between choruses of vintage live-only staple "Put the Waterbug in the Policeman's Ear" or screaming his fucking lungs out on the nine-minute iteration of "Psychiatric Explorations of the Fetus with Needles," yet he doesn't talk much between songs. And of course, the intense Bonham-style heavy drumming from Steven Fucking Drozd... there's a reason that he can be such a great songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and people will still say that the drums are the instrument he was born to play because his drum parts on this release are phenomenal.
If you love noise pop or would be interested in patrician 90's alternative, you should really check this out.

I wasn't really feeling their mosg recent split. I only really liked I'll See You desu.
>>60809539
I love this album but that's easily my least favorite track.
Maybe it's the placement, Nasty Mayor's Daughter has that amazing outro and Ouka comes out of nowhere. Within the context of the album it's a little forgettable.
Perfect track on there though is Skyscraper Kills...

this bullshit, coming from a thread that venerates Boces. you should be ashamed of yourselves desu, clouds taste metallic-era lips were goat

>>60822640
there is literally nothing wrong with m b v
why would you possibly want an entire band's output to sound exactly the same. If you wanted that, then don't listen to mbv or most shoegaze bands, try Creed or Nickelback or something.
The Sun Is A Great Home
>>60812633
Try the demos. I like the production so much more and the songs are both shorter and better.
shoegaze in its truest meaning. These guys were actually the first to discover this genre along with mbv
