Morning all. #harshnoisecoffee is in full effect. May go full retard today and get some field recordings from a funeral.
>>
>>60799505
Are you me?

Going to a wake today myself

Don't think my friends would appreciate seeing me with a tascam 4 track and rhode mic
>>
This is pretty fucking excellent: http://www.discogs.com/Pink-Twins-Let-It-Beep/release/348731
>>
>>60799545
Probably going to do so with my phone. My grandmother passed the other day, so I'm in both full destructive mode, and also "beat the shit out of your modified guitar with a hockey stick blade as brutally as possible" mode.
>>
>>60799599
I love both my Grandma's bro. So sorry for your lose. You gotta channel the noise out of you.
>>
>>60799664
Thanks. But eh, they both went this year. But both went somewhat peacefully so that's really all that matters on that front.

Been channeling the fuck out of it, though. Nothing that I'd like to share just yet, but I hope to have a little bullshit bandcamp release out by Spring as a result of all this. More for myself than anything, but I may do a run of like, ten cassettes to give to my friends or something like that.

I think it's almost funny how I can go from making my own noise, abrasive as all hell, then go back to listening to Metal Machine Music and see it almost as easy listening. Funny how the genre has formed itself so quickly. I love it.

I had an excellent #harshnoisecoffee today. It was right after my early morning military science lab. I walked back to my house watching the sun come up with a travel mug of coffee in hand and a whole bunch of frost everywhere listening to yellow swans - drift yellow swans. 10.0 best new comfy.
>>
>>60800204
That sounds gorgeous. I'm listening to Yellow Tears in my parent's basement while alternating between crying and chugging lukewarm coffee. This is what noise is all about, ain't it boys?
>>
How do you make your #harshnoisecoffee? I've been trying my hand at making vietnamese iced coffee with some Masonna in the background, and I'm enjoying the results so far.

I just have cheap coffee out of a cheap auto drip. I make up for it by mixing in a liberal amount of whiskey though. it does a nice job of keeping me warm on my walk to class.

to keep on topic, I've been listening to aaron dilloway a lot recently and I'm looking for recs for similarly repetitive tape-loop heavy hypnotic comfy noise. I can't get enough of the first track off psychic driving tapes

what if this is his own grandma? Immortalizing her in a recording is good way to cope with emotions.
>>
>>60805765
I'm saving living recordings of my grandma for when she dies.
>>
>>60805864
can't really answer to that so I'm going to skip to more general view. And kinda always wanted to discuss that one with somebody.
Art was always about disrespect. What artist does when tragedy happens? Does a thing. Sorry for obvious argument but you can possibly count poems about Auschwitz. Pendereckich's "Trehonody[...]" wasn't even composed in memoriam of Hiroshima. Guy just named it that way to ensure that (welcome communist polen)commission endorse it.(of course later he said that: "It was my intention n shit".)
>>

>>60800710
everything is going to be okay, try whitehouse for some pump up, or that sleep research facility (deep frieze) album for good night.

>>60801870
so yeah, there's no plastidip where I live. How do I make my contact mic waterproof? Is a thin layer of silicone going to muff the sound a lot?

>>60802988
enjoying this a lot, thanks

>>60804485
idk man, noise is a niche and some releases have mad prices. I'm not saying that artist get 100% of the money they "produce", but the japanoise scene is really active, even if they are close to being senile now, but what I know from experience is that sometimes, especially when you occupy a smaller market there is more money into live shows then in publishing.

in a week i'm going to have a mixer. I found I giant speaker that used to be my dad's (which is nice, since he never lived with us, and having this and using it feels nice). Settled on a Xenyx802usb, so I can produce some audio theater ideas I have. Looking for a proper mic that is going to be useful for both vocals and basic field recording (more like sampling stuff at home). Thinking of buying a tape deck and a Walkman (connecting it to the mixer and playing prerecorded loops on it) and that's it for stage one. maybe buying a reverb if I have any money left.
>still suck at mixing
>>
>>60806713
>speaker
USE IT AS MICROPHONE, NOW. BASS IS AWESOME. I usually record my "bass kick" through one hella big speaker.
>>
>>60806808

>>
>>60806854
I might be missing something, but microphone is basically the same thing as speaker but in reverse right?
>>
>>60806888
It's optimized a little differently obviously but the concept is the same, yeah.
>>
>>60806888
now well versed with this kind of stuff, but I don't think so. Id they are the opposite of each other they aren't the same. I've taken some a part and they have different "structure", as far as I can say. Microphones don't seem to have magnets in them.
>>
>>60806888

you can use ipod earbuds if you want a really easy contact mic but you can only use the original ones without the closed ear rubber stuff thats usually in stores now
>>

as anti-harsh noise as possible: too much creamer and sugar to be healthy. Sweetness seems to go well with harsh noise imo.

Also been revisitin pic related over the past three days to-n-from work and man, forgot how excellent the whole release is.

So I have access to photographs of deceased people via a few people I know who work in a mortuary. What would be the general consensus on using these images, from the perspective of a noise fan and a mortuary worker? I can't personally think of any artistic reason, other than undermining an institutions values via shock imagery, though even that is shallow.

Thoughts on this bros?

I'm into it. Think it translates as a better live act though.
>>
>>60812823
I forgot I downloaded that this november. listening now. I was hyped as fuck for this cause I absolutely loved estuary english and repetition reinforcement.
>>
>>60813077
Let's talk about 'Estuary English'

I liked it all and all. That said 'Co-Opted' is the worst track.
>>
>>60813170
>>60813077
Also if someone could enlighten me on why it was a double LP that would be great.
>>
>>60813170
it is. I think I liked EE more as a promise for an interesting direction that CE could move in rather than as an album on it's own. by that I mean that I'm really excited to hear more of this techo/general dance music influenced style that CE has been moving towards because it really makes them stand out from the rest of PE. repetition reinforcement on the other hand is possibly my favorite EP of all time and I would absolutely love them to do more of that restrained-vocals-over-industrial-techno style. I'm liking this album too. I just got to sarah's vocals on condition of a hole and these are really cool and demented sounding.

also does anyone know where I could find more images of sarah froelich's art? googling doesn't give me all that much.
>>
>>60813363
She posts it on her tumblr on occasion. Besides there, I don't know, especially considering she's basically fresh out of school.
>>
>>60813363
>Sarah's vocals on 'Condition of a Hole'
Big fan. Really enjoying her taking on a bigger role. Almost like being passed a torch or something.

>techno/general dance
I like the sparser angrier tracks like 'Affirmation' and the title track (Estuary English) best.

In general I like Philip's voice. I still haven't read the lyrics for either release.

>>60813077
Also, I wouldn't mind listening to it from the top again so let me know when you started.
>>
>>60813498
yeah I just realized that, she's quite young.

I was proposing a listen a-long or something. I just restarted it.
>>
>>60813527
>Really enjoying her taking on a bigger role
yeah but that redoing of murder your masters really lacks the venom of the version off repetition reinforcement.
>>60813719
ah I get you. I'm on the last track now. I'mma probably restart this as soon as it's done.
>>
>>60812823
is it just me or does the first half of history of sleepwalking kinda sound like witch house?
>>
>>60813983
I can see where you're coming from, certainly. I could definitely see them as fans.
>>
>>60813999
I'd assume that there's a fair amount of fan base overlap between noise and witch house. they have fairly related moods at times.
>>
>>60813771
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC6ESodG55Q

Can't imagine purists would like this. I think it's pretty brutal.
>>
>>60814647
I just wish it was different lyrics. I like the vocal style but the RR version of murder your masters is one of my favorite songs of all time and this lacks all of the venom and minimalism that drew me to it in the first place. the vocal style isn't much different than condition of a hole and that track is really well done, I think if they had written new lyrics the song would've benefited greatly.
>>
>>60814820
I kind of view it as two separate things. But I understand where you are coming from. I feel the same way about a particular Ariel Pink track.

That said do you like Sleaford Mods? I feel like you would based on your opinion of that track.

Bringing it back to noise, there is a new S.T.A.B. out. Hmmm....I'm going to need to get that like right now.
>>
>>60815273
>I kind of view it as two separate things
I've been trying to but I've heard the RR version so many times I can't do that.
>That said do you like Sleaford Mods? I feel like you would based on your opinion of that track.
I haven't heard that version of the track (slsk here I come) and I've also never heard anything by sleaford mods that I'm aware of, I always assumed they were mod revival which has never interested me, but a quick google shows me they're post punk so I'mma check out their discog come january.
>there is a new S.T.A.B. out
ooh, thankfully I have slsk open.
>>
>>60815408
When I say that track I meant the RR 'Murder Your Masters'

Sleaford Mods is not similar but I think you would like what they do.

>thankfully I have slsk open
I didn't see it there.
>>
>>60815485
>When I say that track I meant the RR 'Murder Your Masters'
Oh, I thought you meant the version off the sleaford mods/consumer electronics split from this year.
>I didn't see it there.
neither did I, you're talking about the album "day of the male" right?
>>
>>60815565
Yes 'Day of Male'

So going back to where we started, I'm big on 'Dollhouse Songs' listened to it twice this evening. I like it a little more a whole than 'Estuary English'
>>
>>60815643
>I'm big on 'Dollhouse Songs' listened to it twice this evening. I like it a little more a whole than 'Estuary English'
I'm in pretty much the same boat except the version of murder the masters, for me, drags it down more than any single song on EE. I'mma have to listen to EE again, because of NBBMN I haven't listened to it in well over a month.
>>

When I first got into Whitehouse, I kind of avoided those records, for the reason that I felt uncomfortable listening to something that has naked girls on it.

But as I got more acquanted with Whitehouse, especially Sotos, I think I've grown to appreciate what the album artwork is trying to convey. I will admit, now, that I'm even a bit aroused by it.
Quality time has to have my favorite artwork, though it's not my favorite album. I especially like the single from it, Just Like a Cunt, whose artwork features the bandaged girl's face being groped and prodded by a number of hands.

Who drew this, anyway?

Most importantly, what album is the little girl listening to?

Hey /noise/, I'm pretty new to the genre.
I've been checking out Aufgehoben - Anno Fauve.
It's not really harsh noise per se, and I don't exactly know what to call it. I'm pretty sure it's noise music.

What kind of noise music is this, and what else is there that's like this? I liked Prurient's FNF, but I honestly think I prefer this type of noise that has more overt connections to rock/traditional performance, without actually just being noise rock.

what's your fav Whitehouse track? mine's
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J02-BtZ1bxE
>>
>>60848701
That's a really good point, I wasn't thinking of the artists I liked who are clean sounding, only the ones I don't.

I guess as with everything else you can do it any way you want just as long as you have skill, talent, or an interesting idea presented well.

However I do think that a more lo-fi recording process can make noise that would normally be a little boring into something more interesting and palatable, at least to me.
>>
>>60848763
I get what you're saying, it definitely works in Hecker's favour to be purely digital because it's in line with aesthetic and conceptual themes.

Same goes for James Hoff, who released Blaster on PAN last year were the theme (or gimmick if you want) was infecting each track with the 'BLASTER' virus. Great album.

I suppose those who are interested in progressive/transgressive ideas in art and music would eventually find their way to noise and experimental forms of expression.
