"And I swear that I have a gun and am going to shoot myself"

taken from 'Come as you are'

Maybe you should follow in his footsteps
>>
>>60793867
Why would I want to get murdered? that's just stupid senpai
>>
He wanted to die. To be remembered as a hardcore, tortured artist. Suicide was his final act in the song and dance of his life. Throughout all the addiction I still believe Cobain was self aware enough to be in control of his life. Wouldnt be surprised if he was suicidal prior to his career
>>
>>60793944
>To be remembered as a hardcore, tortured artist.
literally the opposite of what he wanted
>>
>>60794091
then why did he intentionally create a public persona of rebellion and alienation? its hard to accept but he was ready if not happy, relieved to die. Because he knew it would make him eternally revered.
>>
>>60794154
>then why did he intentionally create a public persona of rebellion and alienation?
he didn't
>>
>>60794181
What do you think he was writing music about? His whole attitude was anti-establishment. He was a reclusive herion addict.
>>
>>60794091
Cobain was full of shit. He always said he didn't want fame but then did everything to achieve fame.
>>
>>60794469
like what?
>>
>>60794469
That's a common dichotomy.

>>60794494
putting together 3 albums, touring. Only reason he made In Utero was to be in the spotlight and show the world his darkness
>>
I don't know what's a better prospect: That he was so fucking misserable that his only solution was kicking his own ticket
or that he was happy and his loved ones took it away from him in a swift flash.

Either way serves him right for ruining rock music forever and making it taboo to be happy if you want to be taken seriously as an artist in it.
>>
>>60794154
You're actually retarded if you think his reason for suicide was to be revered. Wanting to die and caring about how you're remembered after is an obvious contradiction.
>>
>>60794615
>Wanting to die and caring about how you're remembered after is an obvious contradiction
No not really. What makes you say so? Martyrs clearly show this isnt a contradiction.
>>
>>60794638
Martyrs don't kill themselves for the same reason depressed people do.
>>
>>60794595
Another prospect: He didn't care about the experience of his life, only the memory of it. He sought out all the glory he received and his ego was validated at the very least. Suicide was loudest cry for attention
>>
>>60794669
Why are you so certain that he was depressed? People experience a multiple of emotions and suicide is a more complex question than whether you are happy or not.

Convince anyone with a brain that he was murdered

>Protip: you can't
>>
>>60794702
He had a history of depression, suicide attempts, bipolar disorder, dark writings, drug use, physical pain etc. That points to sadness, to assume anything else is baseless conjecture.
>>
>>60794732
All points after number 2 can be attributed to number 2. He signed to a major so he wouldn't be poor anymore. Then it snowballed.
>>
>>60794805
Pearl Jam were signed to a major and stopped doing all that other shit.
Why didn't he do the same if he "didn't want to be famous"?
>>
>>60794859
When'd they stop? I remember Eddie giving Kurt a tribute on SNL the week he died.
>>
>>60794859
Oh and Kurt actually turned down Lollapalooza and $10 million a month before he died. And remember when Pearl Jam was on the cover of Time magazine? That was because Kurt skipped on their scheduled shoot.
>>
>>60793838
i find it hard to believe that such a political person like Krist Noveselic would just sit around if he had any suspicion his best friend had been murdered.
>>
>>60794765
He was convinced the most popular thing he could do is be the most is genuine artist, addict, trainwreck he can be. Dont treat people like victims for being 'sad'. He was fully aware of the implications of his actions.
My opinions about his life are as speculative as yours. He was a complex guy. I dont think its out of the question that he saw himself as a martyr for the hardcore. His suicide was sanctified by the standards of tortured art

>>

his music wasnt even that sad, it seemed it though coming from where music was at the time, y'know sogs about partying all night and fucking whores. if anything he brought rock band down to a real level.
>>
>>60794615
Who is:
Vincent Van Gogh
Sylvia Plath
Ernest Hemingway
Ian Curtis
Marilyn Monroe
Virginia Woolf

There's a endless history celebrating artists that suffered mental illness and committed suicide as being "tortured geniuses"

There's no way in hell Cobain didn't know what he was doing when he killed himself
>>
>>60794933
>Pearl Jam was on the cover of Time magazine
It was a photo from a live show, Time didn't ask PJ's permission for that and Ed was pissed off eternally, he literally didn't want to be be on it.
Kurt was going to pose for time? lmao what a fag
>>60794890
They didn't stop all of it, but it was in '92 they made their last music video until '06, apart from the cartoon in 98 and the couple of live ones in 02
They stopped doing tv interviews for some time after 93
They sued Ticketmaster for having a monopoly and their prices too high, so they toured without them, playing smaller independent shows for 10-15 bucks a ticket
Ed was obsessed with Fugazi and wanted to be totally DIY for a while
Once they stopped being the biggest thing in the world for a few years, they relaxed on all this stuff and went back to it.
>>
convince me that grunge was anything more than gutter trash played by slaves with adjustment issues

>protip: no one gives a shit
>>
>>60795017
It wasn't extremely sad. But it was also nothing but mopey. And that's what rock is now, no fun allowed. If you make a happy song obviously you are vapid, shallow and not worth anything. Upbeat song? Sellout. Production that isn't shit? Commercial trash for the masses. He just switched the paradigm for discarding people out of hand, without bringing any actual depth. Instead of making lesser production more acceptable,it just turned into the standard and that was that. Instead of bringing darkness to rock they just made it so fun is now outlawed. And so on and so forth.

And who's to say partying is not a decent theme for a song? Obviously not something to base your entire bloody *discography* around, but if we want to talk real: people also write songs about things they love, you know? Having fun is chiefly among those things for most people.
>>
>>60794969
>Dont treat people like victims for being 'sad'
Did I do this? Where? Although, I do have empathy and sadness for suiciders, they're reduced to an existentially childlike level of vulnerability and helplessness.

True, he did value genuiness and credibility, it was the "punk way". BUT, Kurt like any other person sad enough (I'm going with this explanation as it's most likely) to kill themselves is doing it for a much deeper reason. Maybe his memory being preserved was reassurance for such a major act, but I firmly believe he was just a sensitive self loathing person ready to break at any moment.
>>
>>60795077
wrong

it was gutter trash played by slaves with adjustment issues AND average middle of the road hacks trying to get an easy record deal
>>
>>60795058
So then they stopped around the same time then

>>

>>

>>
>>60795392
The concert he was coerced into doing by the Meat Puppets? Which was later going to get him out of his contract with Geffen?
>>
>>60795381
I would like you to explain your reasoning
>>
>>60795471
The latter, you dumb dumb. What do you think he meant with "There's no way cobain didn't know what he was doing"?
>>
>>60795517
I came to that conclusion when you first posted, I'm looking for clarity as to why you assumed someone would kill themselves for a legacy, especially when Marilyn Monroe is one of the legit ones.
>>
>>60795565
I dunno, m8, I'm not him.
Although I do support his viewpoint, mainly because I think Cobain was a hypocritical fuck. "I don't want to be famous, but let me do seven trillion interviews and live shows in MTV"
But like I said, his reasoning may be more solid than mine. I just hate cobain.
>>
>>60795614
You're investing too much into the ideals of someone who was mentally ill.
>>
>>60795455
>coerced into
lol, yeah, blame some indie band that he invited to play with him
like they had any power
>going to get him out of his contract with Geffen
How the fuck is that going to get him out of a Geffen deal?

You kek fans are delusional

The Meat Puppets encouraged him to do it. The Unplugged performance became an album which would've fulfilled their three album contract had he not died.

He wouldn't have done it if he really didn't want to. Unless the Meat Puppets had photos of him in compromising positions, it was all Kurt.

In Utero

That is literally what anybody who has thoughts of suicide would say, people who want to kill themselves generally dont tell people they're going to kill themselves. This holds even more truth for someone who was at the time influencing millions and millions of kids.
