Coming thru
>>60792938
Good pick. Definitely top 5
>>60792975
Tnx anon. Up In Flames is so well mixed with samples and Dans own songwriting. Blends shit well man. Haha sound is great too. It's like STGSTV by Animal Collective but if it was Bee Thousand by GBV. Gee could I have fit more acronyms in this message?
Deserves an honorable mention at least.
>>60793040
I wasn't a fan of them, or sunburned hand of the man, or Akron family
Can't forget this bad boy
>>60793054
Honestly blue cathedral is the only album I really liked. That first track is just balls to the wall awesome.
>>60793087
A more Paul sided Beatles band flirting with NROTPS somehow, pinch of clash
Stereolab's post-2000 stuff is underrated
>>60793174
Even Cobras album from 99 is really good, even bradford coxkxk liked the album. They have a few gems in their catalog post 00's.
>>60793203
I know, he made a music festival just to play Blue Milk on stage with Stereolab lol
>>60793254
I think its odd that he made a music fest just so a band could play with him, and most of the audience and the band thought "this guy hired us just so he could be cool".. and people believed it.
>>60793279
nah man, he was just fulfilling a fanboy dream. Are you telling me you wouldn't do the same with your favorite band if you had the resources to do so?
>>60792835
>Is this the best psych album of the 2000s?
lol no
if you discount the flaming lips (because the soft bulletin is better and ranked higher anyways), the microphones glow prt 2 is the best psych release of the 00s
>>60793332
Of course, who wouldn't?
>>60793332
stereolab is brandon cox's favorite album?
my favorite album is halcyon digest, and while i love stereolab a lot never thought it would be his favorite
>>60793512
favorite band*
my bad
>>60793370
lol stfu

At one point Bradfords Socks was into like Terry Reily, Specifically The Cobra Phases Stereolab album. It shows, he had Ladia from Stereolab sing on his shit. He was pretty krautrocky and a little intense with the reverb delay on his voxxxxxxxxx. Yeah he likes the 'lab

>basing your opinion on RYM
>>60793638
>thinking RYM is wrong because you don't agree with it
i doubt you've ever heard the glow
>>60793370
it's more of an experimental folk-record, than a psych record, but maybe I'm just splitting hairs.
>>60793554
>>60793624
Yeah, MPP or maybe even Feels if it was slightly more conventional. Possibly Embryonic or in the attic of the memverse
>>60793669
or your understanding of psych is off
>>60793660
I don't take user collected ratings that seriously, no. I base my opinions on my own thoughts and feelings about an album
>inb4 b-but look, everyone else says it's good too!! It's objectively the best!
>>60793709
what criteria needs to be met in order for something to be considered psychedelic?
>>60793737
>I base my opinions on my own thoughts and feelings about an album
which of course means you have no fucking clue how to judge an album because you have shit taste and dont know anything about music to begin with
:^)
>>60793746
you have to know what psych music is
>>60793802
someone's getting angry kek
chill out anon, i'm allowed to have my opinions, at least i'm not a drone
>>60793863
hmm you're right, which will it be: idiot who is a free thinker and absorbs as much shitty music as possible to seem elite
or someone who follows RYM and only listened to albums that are critically acclaimed and are forward thinking sonically...
>>60793370
>psych folk
>indie folk

>>60793802
Using popularity as an objective criticism is boring. It criticized the audience, not the music itself.
>>60793847
You need to define what psych music is before you can apply the label. I was asking you for a definition.
>>60793512
who's brrandon fox lead singer of Dear Hunter,
>>60793926
He is Brankfloord Smocks lead Deeer Singerz
>>60793920
>I was asking you for a definition.
>Psychedelic music (sometimes psychedelia[1]) covers a range of popular music styles and genres influenced by psychedelic culture that attempted to replicate or enhance the psychedelic experiences of psychedelic drugs.
>A number of features are often included in psychedelic music. Exotic instrumentation, with a particular fondness for the sitar and tabla are common.[2] Songs often have more complex song structures, key and time signature changes, modal melodies and drones than contemporary pop music.[3] Surreal, whimsical, esoterically or literary-inspired, lyrics are often used.[4][5] There is often a strong emphasis on extended instrumental solos or jams, typically featuring a heavily distorted electric guitar as the main instrument.[3] Electric guitars are used to create feedback, and are played through wah wah and fuzzbox effect pedals.[6] There is a strong keyboard presence, in the 1960s this especially using electronic organs, harpsichords, or the Mellotron, an early tape-driven 'sampler' keyboard.[7] Elaborate studio effects are often used, such as backwards tapes, panning, phasing, long delay loops, and extreme reverb.[8] In the 1960s there was a use of primitive electronic instruments such as early synthesizers and the theremin.[9][10] Later forms of electronic psychedelia also employed repetitive computer-generated beats.[11]
>The Glow Pt. 2 is the seventh album by The Microphones. It was named after a song from Phil Elvrum's previous album, It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water, "The Glow." The album is known for its lo-fi sound and psychedelic arrangements,

dis guy won
>>60793891
b8/10
thats really sad if you actually think this way
>>60793970
Thank you. This label makes much more sense now.
>>60794067
how is it sad? im listeing to 10/10 albums having a good time, you're trying hard to impress people who dont care about you
>>60793891
>someone who follows RYM and only listened to albums that are critically acclaimed and are forward thinking sonically
i don't know you, but i think i hate you.
>>60794182
Wouldn't mom be proud
>>60794089
Sounds like you're having a better time trolling a music image board :^)
>>60794089
>you're trying hard to impress people who dont care about you
that's exactly what you're doing by conforming to other people's opinions of what is 10/10 and what is not
you're trying too hard to fit in
>>60794346
>conforming to other people's opinions of what is 10/10
its not their opinion its statistics and fact. OK Computer is the greatest album ever. go listen to it for yourself, thats all i ever listen to
>>60794378
you were doing well, until you starting taking the piss
>>60794378
Music is not about statistics and facts m8
>>60792835
Does sound or aspire to be like psychedelic rock of old, nor does it really bare the "neo-psychedelic" brand imo, but I love this album and I find it very good to listen to in a psychedelic state of mind.
It's progressive, upbeat with some contemplative moments, good themes overall, and excellent production quality with a variety of influences apparent throughout.
>>60793370
Honestly, I gave flaming lips a chance, and, while they sound ok instrumentally, their lyrics lack depth and really don't fit the nature of psychedelic states of mind or the psychedelic music of the past.
They sound like people who haven't tried psychedelics trying to sound like psychedelic rockers. Look at a spoonful weighs a ton, sounds ok but the lyrics are brittany spears tier, 2bh imo famillia
>>60794658
Doesn't*
this over yoshimi anyday
>>60794720
I take back what I said, they don't sound good at all and merriweather meme pavilion is not in anyway psychedelic, it's just pop. I would listen to deathmetal on a trip over the lips or animal collective.
Calling these band psychedelic is a bastardization of the concept and anyone who does should be ashamed or is trolling. Feel free to like whatever you want, being psychedelic doesn't preclude listening while tripping, but call it what it is instead of bandwagoning memes.
>>60794720
have you ever listened to the spark that bled?
its basically the late 90s version of a day in the life, its fucking incredible and psychedelic
>They sound like people who haven't tried psychedelics
are you kidding me with this shit? if there is any band right now or a decade ago who took a many drugs as the flaming lips, let me know.

Lips:
>I stood up and I said, "Yeah"
>I spoke up and I said, "Hey"
>I stood up and I said, "Hey, yeah yeah yeah"
>And it seemed to cause a chain reaction
>It had momentum, it was gaining 'traction
>It was all the rage, it was all the fashion
Hendrix:
>Well, I stand up next to a mountain
>And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
>Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
>Might even raise a little sand
>>60795067
for clarification, of the point I'm making: use of repetition can be powerful when used appropriately. Using "well" to start multiple verses is fine, mindlessly repeating simple uninspired lines and rhyming "tion" 3 times is sloppy writing and not psychedelic in the slightest.
>>60795067
Music then
Music now
>>60795105
I posted one of my modern suggestions, I think papadosio, for example, is on par with psychedelic rock of old, albeit a little less rock oriented. I think the lips have some good ideas, the metaphor of a "bleeding spark" along with the allusion to dense stars in "spoonful weighs a ton" are nice and poetic, but the rest of the lyrics lack the cohesion and strength of other artists, imo.
>>60795104
The fuck we got some psychadelic poetry PhD nigga here.
>>60795191
i dont think you have a clue what you're talking about, honestly, and should get fucked
>>60795215

>>60795593
how is RYM elitest? lol you're the one saying the biggest and most popular psych band of the last few decades isnt really psych, when they clearly are, according to its own definition
>>60795628
I've made very detailed posts, and your one-liners and rym links are leading me to believe you're trolling
>>60795741
yeah your "detailed" posts
>look at how hendrix wrote really whmiscal and esoteric lyrics
>look at how the flaming lips do it eww so gross even though its exactly the same but more poignant and vulnerable
you sure convinced us the biggest psych pop band on planet isnt really a psych...
>>60795784
brb gotta check rym for how to respond
>>60795903
while you;re there check out the custom chart section where they showcase all of the best albums, make sure to listen to OK Computer at least a couple times from start to finish, to throw off any bias or pretentious notions you might have about music
