You can try and justify it, but it still doesn't change the fact that you are a thief. You can come up with the most flawless argument ever explaining why, but you can't tiptoe around the fact that it's stealing.
>>
>>60782340
>le "record company big wigs get ALL the $$$" maymay

Fun fact: artists receive the majority of the income from tours/merch/streaming these days. In the age of the Internet record labels are obsolete and most aren't even affiliated with a label. You're directly stealing from the artist. If you pirate anything made by an independent artist in any medium (be it video games, anime, TV, books, whatever), you are a scumbag and a thief and you're not sticking it to THE MAN or whatever gay meme shit you spew to feel hard.
>>
Yes. So what? The ghost of Frank Zappa will slit my throat while i sleep?
>>
>>60782459
Just wanted to remind you that you were a thief. In case you forgot or it slipped your mind.
>>
I don't see anything wrong with being a thief. Art should be done out of passion, not the pursuit of money anyway. Hopefully someday currency will die out completely and we can all go back to being "thieves" who just enjoy creating and sharing shit again.
>>
>>60782481
It didn't. So, what's your point?

I'm subscribed to Apple Music but since I don't have an iPhone or a smart phone I can't listen to it outside of my computer.
I bought a Pretty Things CD last month and motherfucker was protected so I couldn't even put the songs on my mp3 player.
I don't have a usb turntable and it'd be fucking annoying to chop up each song every time anyway.
They just make it impossible for me to enjoy any music I want without buying some overpriced shit, I can get any music I want by torrent and I can listen to it wherever and however I please. You're goddamn right I'm gonna do it or otherwise I wouldn't even be listening to half the shit I love.
>>
>implying using a shit service like iTunes/google play/spotify is worth "supporting" the artist

Also, you'd be paying them back by giving them money if you saw them in concert.

That's if you liked them. If you don't, they aren't worth your money.
>>
>>60782297
just bought the cassie ramone album cuz i felt like shit for stealing all the v.girls albums.. but i still steal everything. it's hard to stop. think i'm going to switch to streaming in 2016 cuz i don't like feeling like an asshole.

literally why
>>
>>60782369
there is no resource you're taking from the artist. You either don't buy the album and don't listen to it, or don't buy the album and listen to it. Getting something for free that you could've potentially paid for isn't stealing.
>>
>>60782297
but I buy merch from local bands, I buy a t-shirt + cd bundle once a month senpai

i occasionally do pirate music, but i always buy the album afterwards if i enjoy it. might as well if i have the money.

i don't think pirating albums by dead musicians is stealing though. i buy albums because i want to support musicians, not the record labels leeching off their legacies, and anyway it's not like these guys are losing money from beyond the grave or anything.
>>
If this artist is dead I find it more morally questionable to buy it. Fuck the family members, fuck the record company
>>
>>60783998
>>60783995
But they are the ones releasing the material. Without them, it wouldn't sit in a vault, unheard
>>
>>60783387
What's your point ? Truth is there's nothing really convincing out there. Apple music is way better than spotify, I didn't buy a CD in decades and that made me not want to do it again and I buy vinyl because I love it, but there's nothing worth replacing torrenting yet.

Why is Apple Music better than Spotify? Should I switch over to Apple? What's the point?

>>60782535
I feel you, I steal music too. But that's bullshit that it should not be done in pursuit of money. Do you want many of your favorite artists to disappear because now they have to spend most of their time working a shitty office job?

But yeah I'm also hoping for a socialist utopia one day. We'll be given a living wage, so we can be full-time artists if we want, with maybe just 15 hours of work/community service a week.

This.

it takes money to make music. To expect all music to be free is just retarded logic.
>>
>>60786106
Yeah. Like whether you agree with it or not, we all live in a world where we need fucking money to survive. When you provide a service to someone else, you need to paid, or you're just fucking volunteering. And unless you're some trust fund kind volunteering, you're treating these people like shit by not buying their music.

Food can be an art form too. Should I start dining and dashing from fine dining establishments? It's the same thing as stealing music.

Should we start getting graphic designers to make us websites for free and then just buy them a beer sometime?

I understand stealing music. It's my passion, I'm broke, and I'm looking out for myself. But it's wrong.
>>
>>60782297
what if the musicians i listen to condone downloading music
>>
>>60786266

Then the libshits will still hassle you about every artist who doesn't condone it. The guy isn't saying it's morally wrong to consume music without muh capitalism.
>>
>>60782297
I'll pay for physical media, I have a solid tape/cd/vinyl collection. Paying for digital media is fucking dumb.
>>

ITT: People justify their piracy by saying artists should do things out of "passion", that record labels are spawn of satan, and that going to a concert is "paying them back."

Lol, I pirate a majority of my music but I don't try to justify it, I'm a terrible human being and I always buy albums whenever I can.

Wether you like it or not, not BUYING an artist's album only hurts them in the long run, independent or not. In this day and age, there are artists signing contracts that state they have sell X amount or their dropped. There's literally no money in music sales thanks to the internet, but not buying albums to "stick it to man" is not only being edgy but not helping at all. And these are the same people who will proudly say how much they love and support their favorite artists lol.

tl;dr: buy the music you love, own up to being a filthy pirate
>>
>>60786497
I'm a musician. If someone wants to hear my music they can hear it for free. If they want to own it they will pay.

You probably suck anyway, why do you feel so important? Why do you think you deserve payment when most likely you are mediocre and not worthy of my pennies?

Just be glad anyone pays attention to you at all you self centered little bitch.
>>
>>60786481
It still stealing. The burden is on the thief for being a criminal, not the artist for not making up for the losses.

>Being an artist and having product stolen
>Becomes t-shirt seller b/c of criminal "fans"
>>
>>60786552
>all artists should distribute music the way I do
Yikes.
>You probably suck anyway
Says the one with no value to their music.
>>
>>60786552
Stealing mediocre product is still stealing.

Nobody cares if you're a musician. Tbh gives you no special say in this. You are your own person. Not other artists. I bet you just do it for a hobby too. Is it your full-time job?

>apparently it's self-centered to not want people to steal your products
>>
>>60786553
>I'M AN ARTISTE GUYS PAY ME WAAAAAAAAH

If you are in music for money than you are beyond saving. Stop being such a baby.
>>
>>60782297
i dont look up to any artist
>>
>>60786553
It's stealing, but I'm pretty sure the artist would prefer for you to steal and listen to their music than not listen to it at all, just look at that agreement badbadnotgood did with bittorrent for sour soul
>>
>>60786601
But music costs money to make. If an artist doesn't break even, they won't be able to continue making music.

The cat's kind of out of the bag guys.

The barn door is open, all the animals have left, and closing it now will not help.

Unless you have a time machine I'm pretty sure there's no going back, whining about it on 4chan is just kind of pathetic to be honest. Especially from "musicians" ITT.
>>
>>60782297
nice cleavage. what makes you think i look up to the jews i listen to? just because i enjoy their art doesn't mean i look up to them. and if you need to pirate to enjoy art, then, yarrrrrrrr
>>
There is very little music being composed today that I feel the need to pay for. Being able to strum a few chords and howl into a mic doesn't make you worthy of making a living off of record sales. Getting a record deal isn't even a function of your talent either. There's plenty of good musicians that get zero attention and plenty of mediocre musicians that make millions because they can sing ok and have a pretty face. In a hundred years I can guarantee most pop will be totally forgotten in favor of the years current pop.
>>
>>60786830
>trying this hard to justify yourself
Actually disgusting. Pirating is kind of fine but please don't try to justify it like this you spineless little rat.
>>
>>60786873
If pirating were illegal I'd rather listen to public radio.
