Reposting from last thread

Need some opinions here. I went to record some bass a couple weeks ago at a studio and the guy had one of these pedals. I played on it a bit but never got a chance to mess with the knobs on it. Anyways from the time I used it it sounded great but I looked it up that they are about $200.

Any other bass players have this thing? It sounds awesome but is it worth the money?
>>
>>60779931
Depends on what you want to do with it in the first place. The bass driver is sort of a package deal.

>Preamp
>DI
>Overdrive
>2 band EQ (bass/treble)

If you don't want at least two of these things, perhaps look elsewhere. If you want to know whether or not it's a good purchase, I can assure you that it is. Seems to be the most common recommendation on the internet along with the much more expensive B7K

Yeah I already have the ampeg svt 400 head but a preamp would be nice. Plus the overdrive pedal I have just isn't doing for me. (Boss odb-3).

I mean I really don't need the pedal but I always like new toys to play with. Thanks for the input though
>>
>>60780187
Check out the bass soul food if you can. I opted for that instead of the bass driver and I don't regret my purchase.
>>
>>60780061
I got mine for $110, it's solid. I've heard good things about the vtbass di, would have rather got one of those but I couldn't find one used.

The VT Bass DI, it's definitely a better option to get, I upgraded to that after having the regular bass driver however >>60780217 brings up another great option for less if you are looking for a boost or overdrive BUT NOT if you want a preamp. I would say the VT Bass DI is the best option if you want a preamp/recording device/overdrive if you can't get an actual SVT

Thanks for the responses. so the consensus would be to go for the vt over the bass driver? What are the differences between the two? Other than just saying "it's better"
>>
>>60781439
Go play them.
>>
how did you guys learn guitar?
>>
>>60781439
The ric is a professional quality american made guitar. Other than a couple of custom shop models (the eddie cochran one, maybe a couple others) the gretsch stuff is made in asia. Some are ok. Some are total dogs.
>>
>>60781641
It's got a better control layout with the mids adjustable and sounds a lot closer to an SVT in both EQ and in gain structure
>>60781625
That's true though their are some things that sound equally as good in a different way (Super Bassman 300 on the OD channel, Ampeg V4B if you don't need a ton of volume or headroom, and an Orange AD200B come to mind)
>>60781439
Not really all that similar, you should try to narrow down what sound you want first
>>
>>60781641
Also I meant to say that I have a svt 4-pro head with the svt410 half cab.
>>
>>60781732
The 4-Pro is close to an SVT in sound already, so pairing it with a VT Bass DI should sound really good
>>
>>60781713
>similar, you should try to narrow down what sound you want f

I play a lot of noise pop/experimental stuff like JAMC, primal scream, slowdive, cocteau twins, etc

I love the sound of rickenbackers, but I've always wanted a hollow body too, so i'm kinda torn between them, as different as they are

Mine would be a customized explorer

24 frets, medium jumbo
Modern fender style neck
Hockey stick head stock
27" scale
Neck through body
Natural finish dark wood for the outer wings with a matching head stock, a small strip of slightly lighter wood in between the 3 blocks for the body, so 5 pieces altogether.
Fretboard matching the 2 strips
Basic fixed bridge
HH, 2 volume 2 tone
Maybe locking tuners
Black TUSQ nut

Haven't decided pickups, probably some basic sds with medium high output in the bridge and medium output in the neck

hardware color is tough, silver might be too bright, gold might work well because it'll be a darker guitar but it may also look tacky, black may not work well. It'll depend on the wood used. If I could find brass that might be nice, but it'll tarnish quickly with how much I'll be touching it.

One of these is mounted inside my rack. Not much secret about a TS pedal though, pretty much everyone has one.

Define modern.
>>
>>60787158
I mean, yeah, that's probably true, but when you've lived with the OG version, and then try anything else, it fucks with you. Though, I do recommend you put some sort of roller bridge if you want the best out of your vibrato, though I guess that would go with ANY guitar with that kind of setup.
>>
>>60783670
How's that Tele acoustic?
>>
>>60787319
Depends on what kind of thinlines you're talking about m8. A normal one well, yeah, it's just a semi-hollow tele, but it's lighter!
72 Deluxe thinlines are essentially the same, but with two humbuckers. (Or P-90's if you decide to get the modern player one)

telecasters are for queers, semihollows are for nancy boys, and humbuckers are for sloppy vaginas. if you play one of those you might as well be elton john. without the talent, obviously

There's very little info on this model online, and setting up the Transtrem can be an absolute nightmare at times. Lack of spare parts is also a constant fear, in case you break something. Plays like an absolute dream though.

they're pretty cool guitars and fun for modding. Shame it's impossible to find them as left-handed, not even sure if they exist honestly.

I played one upsidedown and it was pretty sweet, not sure the model, similar to the pic. Neck feel was pretty smooth, similar to old fender mustangs/jaguars if you've played one.

Teisco's and any guitar of that nature is pretty much a hit, or a miss that with enough knowledge and elbow grease, you can actually turn it around. Dude, stop. You're the same guy that posted in that "shred albums" thread with one of your videos. You're not a terrible guitarist but I can tell you're just stringing scales together: there's nothing especially interesting or musical about it. With the way you're playing, those pentatonic/blues lines are clashing stridently with the diminished and harmonic minor ideas.

Work on your phrasing. Learn to improvise over a proper I-IV-V and work on your modes of the major scale.

This. You can dump so much money into guitars, there's no limit. You have to stop somewhere and it might as well be at level frets. Tone is subjective, and usually more expensive tones are emulating what was done with cheap/amateur work in the past. Honestly I find many cheaper guitars have more personality. You can do things no high end guitar can do.
