Any other albums similar to this and Spirt of Eden? I'm tired of most modern instrumental post-rock, it all sounds so similar with it's buildups, chiming guitars and crescendoes.

Post-Rock General, I guess

I've been digging this lately. It might scratch your itch.
Still, there are plenty of not build-up-y modern post-rock
>>
It's a long shot, but maybe try these:
Crescent - By The Roads And The Fields
Hood - Rustic Houses Forlorn Valleys
>>
>>60779208
Sorry, but what's the band name? Is the album called Help?
>>
>>60779247
Gastr Del Sol - Camofleur
>>
>>60779217
I'll check them out, thanks. I think I've heard of Hood before

Clearly I've been looking in the wrong places then. It all seems to sound like Explosions in the Sky. Yndi Halda, God Is An Astronaut, This Will Destroy You, all basically the same band

>Any other albums similar to [Hex] and Spirit of Eden?

Mark Hollis' s/t
.O.Rang's "Herd of Instinct"
Those New Puritans' "Field of Reeds"
Slowdive's "Pygmalion"
Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" (Anything from his electric period, really)
Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks"
>>
>>60779292
*Shels is pretty special
Silver Mt. Zion's latest album is like a really heavy drone-y blues rock band
Mamiffer's stuff is as bleak and ambient as F#A# while being more melodic and having a vocalist
>>
>>60779172
>>60779364
Also David Sylvian's "Secrets of the Beehive."

when did you realize post rock is a shit genre
>>
>>60779364
Already heard Mark Hollis' album, it's fantastic. Same with Pygmalion and Field of Reeds, but I'll check out these others

Never really thought of "Astral Weeks" as post-rockish, but I suppose it pays little mind to tradition song structure and melds genres quite well.

Sounds fantastic
>>
>>60779418
I dunno, is it really anymore derivative than most genres?

Labradford's s/t.

>>60779292
Devil's advocate but TWDY's Tunnel Blanket was the most interesting thing to happen to third wave post-rock.

fuk I still have to listen to this one
>>
>>60779377
I like the two Set Fire To Flames albums better.
>>
>>60779817
Are they really that similar?
>>
>>60780059

try listen to non crescendo part of mogwai like helicon 2, local authority or cody and compare to Duster. so yeah if you dont like the sound of build up and crescendo then why bother looking for post rock?
>>
>>60780180
Mogwai are pretty boring

I don't know, because not all post rock bands do the exact same time of buildup, as all the Explosions in the Sky ripoffs do?
>>
Hood or Disco Inferno
>>
do make say think - s/t

>any Do Make Say Think beside their entire discography
>>
>>60780473
Do they have vocals?
>>
>>60780494

idk they made plenty of crescendo too except their self title desu

>>60780522

and no vocal for this
>>
>>60780236
I mean like con on die young is pretty good
rave tapes is also nice
>>
>>60780634
Come on Die Young is just very repetitive to me. I liked "Les Revenants" and "Happy Songs for Happy People" thought
>>
>>60780561
Maybe I just have a soft spot for them, but they never struck me as the Yndi Halda types
>>
>>60780661
it is but I really like the sound I never get to hear drums like that
I'll put it on and then go like drink wine in the shower for an hour or so
>>
>>60779364

if you consider all that to be post rock then try Kammerflimmer Kollektief. they have pretty solid discography
>>
>>60780742
Drinking wine in the shower? That's an...interesting pastime.
>>
>>60780788
cold drinks in hot showers are the perfect mix. even better if you go in with all your clothes on and lie down and just let the water soak you
>>
>>60780661

their Zidane ost fit this thread theme then
>>
>>60780849
Does this not ruin the cold drink? Or do you drink it using some sort of straw.
>>
>>60780899
you keep it outside the bathtub part and bring it in only to drink
>>
>>60780890
Never heard it
>>
Six Parts Seven
Roots of Orchis
Unwed Sailor
>>
>>60779381
How is Tim Friese-Green's solo stuff? I understand he wrote a lot Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden

Nope, I think I've seen the cover posted before but never given it a listen until OP mentioned the similarities to talk talk, which I enjoy greatly. It's great so far
