Wow, I literally had no expectations for this album, but these snippets....
After Fall Be Kind always wanted them to go in this direction. Let's face it: they aren't ever going to do the noisy/experiment thing again, so super poppy seems the logical way to go. I think one issue with Hz was it tried to sit itself somewhere in the middle and that muddled the intentions. I think they've adapted themselves well - they went from being seen as a 2000's indie band (a great one, mind you) but this sounds like it fits in with the current climate of music (I agree with the other anon on the plasticity factor) yet it still feels distinctly AnCo.

did you see the words, grass, the purple bottle and turn into something all have the same kind of timbre to me, and flesh canoe, bees, daffy duck and banshee beat all share the opposite. don't get me wrong, i love the album, but it's slow for most of its middle and i wouldnt say it takes me on a ride. this is why SJ is my favourite album. there's real alternation between the feel of the majority of the tracks
but yeah PW seems like BANG BANG BANG the whole way through... if CHZ was a burrito on the windshield then it's looking like this is 3 burritos on the windshield. Sung Tongs has a bunch of loud, fast, annoying bursts, the kernels of which were already implemented much better on earlier albums. the freakout bits were much more enjoyable in the context of longform pieces on Hollinndagain and HCtI. the long piece on ST is pretty okay, but it has none of the pathos of the earlier releases. i'm also not sure what "ideas" really came in here that were very new that you're referring to... Panda's erratic, tribal drumming matched with relentless vocal approximations and synthetic and acoustic sounds overlaid into colorful soundscapes were done again to much better effect earlier on

Well loud and fast bursts are all over their previous records, I'm not sure why that would suddenly become annoying. I guess you just didn't like it, but it's melodically their most intricate to that date, and other than CS they hadn't done too much stuff that was absent of a pretty relentless focus on high frequency sound palettes, although there are moments, the standout for me being Two Sails on a Sound. I guess I'd have to hear a clarification of what you mean when you refer to their pathos, Sung Tongs is intentionally different in sound to their earlier releases, but it's still sonically rich with sounds that wash in and out, and I would argue that the more competently engineered sound allows for even more intricate layering of textures. Again, erratic tribal drumming is something that you could easily say with a positive connotation for any album. Basically I think it has everything the earlier albums had but with less abrasive timbres and much more intricate songwriting. The melodic phrasing in the verse of Leaf House with the huge build of the ahahahas in the middle, the use of modes like in The Softest Voice, it had all sorts of unpredictable cadences, I could go on but I won't.

HMmm these samples kind of dampened my hype. While u like the boys Latin vocal effect it does seem to show up in about half of these samples. Also a few of the songss I couldn't really make out any distinct melody or chord progression which floridada had inspades. Bagels in Kiev has me the most worried. On delay seems pretty great though. People were expecting this to sound similar to strawberry jam but like others have said it seems to lack the variety of sounds and noises sj had. Some of it reminds me of of Montreal which is not a good thing.
Overall these snippets dampened my hype a little bit but the fact that a snippet from burglars hid the amazing ending we heard in the bathroom recordings means that there's all kinds of stuff we can't know from this album tip it drops.
