on a small hobby scale, torrent some program, the word you need is a DAW (digital audio workstation) so google best DAW's or whatever for a list and just get what you can that works, they're all different but they'll have the same functionality.functionality. Ableton is the absolute best thing you could get but it might be hard to torrent and it costs like a million $ to buy.
Invest in a small MIDI keyboard. This is a USB music keyboard that doesn't make sounds itself but acts like a controller and maybe get pads too, not essential but it helps a lot.
get some samples or learn how to synthesizes sounds, learn abit about MIDI and drum sequencing and start copying your favourite artist
