It's weird that p4k liked that album but disliked Caribou and Four Tet comparatively. I mean, just in terms of hype. It's not weird to not understand the hype over In Colour. I like it, it made my foot tap, it's warm and enveloping and consistent and lusciously produced, but at the end of the day it's still just an above average indietronica album.

It wasn't, though. There has been more great music just this year than in the past few years. You just personally didn't like very much of it.
In Colour is a great album in my opinion. Good production, very enjoyable. There isn't much more to it, so I agree with you there.
Some other stuff I personally enjoyed this year (other than the most popular albums) that you might want to check out.

Really poppy even for Mutemath. Still a good album though. Highly catchy moments, good overall production.
>Ratatat - Magnifique
Had some filler but otherwise was a very enjoyable album. They didn't really try anything new or innovate too much on it, but that's not always a bad thing.
>Carpenter Brut - Trilogy
Very heavy synthwave/retrowave music. Carpenter Brut is the best in the genre in my opinion. While 2/3 of this album wasn't released this year, the album as a whole was, and it's worth a listen.
>Attlas - Siren EP
Dance music, not much more, but very well produced. Pretty much ear candy.
>Badbadnotgood/Ghostface Killah - Sour Soul
This was pretty highly anticipated but was quickly forgotten about, which is sad because I really enjoyed it. It was pretty much more of BBNG's album III but with Ghostface Killah and some other guests.
>Toro Y Moi - What For
Very different style for TYM, but it was a nice listen. I respect that he tried something different, and in my opinion, it worked pretty well.
>Squarepusher - Damogen Furies
Another squarepusher album, it's pretty cool but didn't innovate too much. Still worth a listen.
>Thundercat - The Beyond/Where The Giants Roam
Funky as fuck album/EP. Really shows off what Thundercat can do as a bassist. He's an okay singer, but we all know that's not what you listen to Thundercat for...

Jamie XX is super watered down and shallow dance music camouflaging itself as something authentic with regards to the underground UK dance scene. Literally rolled my eyes at the ragga samples. It's all very derivative.
