Just listened to pic related. There's only three words in the English vocabulary that even remotely describe my feelings towards it.

>Hella fucking epic

You bros heard this jam?
>>
>>60754111
This album confuses me so much. I wonder how much it cost to make, it's pretty much just an experiment in production.
>>
I like soundtracks best but I like this one too

Why are the rabbits' heads on fire?
>>
>>60754111
because its fiilled with experimental and great songwriting, catchy grooves, tetric but emotional lyrics and an overarching theme about childhood, innocence, sexual desire and of course, religion. The production is really detailed and vivid and all songs are executed to perfection.

I can't get into Swans.

I wish I could, because they've made so much music, and they seem like their super rewarding once you get it, but I just don't.

Am I listening to them wrong? Could they just not be my thing?
>>
>>60754111
it's not. it's too longwinded, like most other swans albums. the high points are drowned out by the directionless nonsense.

There's genius in it, don't get me wrong. But much of it lacks focus.
>>
it's the only one i've listened to

what's next for me?

Follow this chart >>60755092
And if you still can't get into them their just not for you.

Most of their albums are pretty different from each other, I notice most people here tend to really only like 3 or 4 of their albums. So don't be discouraged if that happens either

the one where the lead singer screams as discordantly, loud and as long as possible during every song. it's so sweet.

which band u talking about again
>>
>>60755404
Mallards
>>
>>60755318
Not saying it couldn't, I'm just saying some of their albums just might be his thing

Anyways >>60754970 Swans definately aren't the easiest bands ever to get into. They may just not be for you, are you mostly into metal and whatnot? Because I find that metal fans have the hardest time enjoying them.

If after that chart you still can't get into them don't lose hope either. Exploring the charts avalible on RYM and whatnot and give it another go in a year or so
>>
>>60754970
Start with children of God. Then cop and filth. Then seer. Then soundtracks. Then to be kind.
>>
The dumbed down answer would be: It just blows my fucking mind. Every time I get done listening to it, I feel like I'm looking at life through a different lens. There's not much music out there that's capable of doing that to me.
>>
>>60755774
Yep, that's it. That's how I always described as well, mind blowing. Not many albums fall into that category for me.
>>
>>60755774
Be sure it's because musically it was mind blowing, not because it loudly blasted your inner ear and fucked up your sense of equilibrium. there is a huge difference.
>>
>nobody picks public castration
plebs
fuck all of you
is great annihilator underrated
>>
>>60755871
OP here. Great annihilator is the only album of theirs I havn't listened to.
>>
>>60755324
It's saying greed and holy money are additional albums on a similar level to Cop I think
>>
>>60754137
OK, this album better be fucking good cuz its almost 2 FUCKING HOURS, im giving it a listen but holy fuck, 2 FUCKING HOURS. I WOULD RATHER WATCH THE GODFATHER TRILOGY TWICE BRUH GODDAMN!!!!!!!!111111111
>>
>>60754970
In my experience a lot of people who don't like Swans are overthinking it, because a lot of the more unpleasant Swans fans have this sort of pretentious, look-how-intellectual-I-am kind of attitude to the music I feel like people go in expecting something super deep with lots of metaphors and shit
It's just raw, primal music. Don't think about it, don't analyse it, just feel it.
>>
>>60755418
Funny I mostly listen to metal (weird /metal/ metal though) but I really enjoyed both their newer stuff and their older stuff on first listen
>>
I disagree when it comes to post-STFTB swans. There are so many layers (in some parts) and I've found that (for example) focusing on a single instrument in the noise wall in bring the sun is very rewarding
>>
>>60756601
this to be quite honest family

First, Don't be niggerish
Second, This album is mindblowing, but you do have to prepare yourself for it. It's a deadly overwhelming beast made of long dwelling sounds, and confusing expirimental songs. it will fuck with your mind sooner or later and brings your mind to places you thought you forgot or rather won't be.

if you manage to listen to the full thing you deserve a medal, I only managed to get through it a couple of times. I usually listen to it casually and make it to "How they suffer". Any further almost feels impossible by then. Getting to the second opening song "Red velvet wound" is entirely worth it though.
>>
>>60757264
lol its really not that hard to get through. The hardest part for me was adjusting to the different style of music on the album as I had listened to every swans album chronologically up to that point so I was not prepared for a semi electronic post rock album after Great Annihilator.
>>
>>60754145
>it's pretty much just an experiment in production.
Did you actually listen to it, or just read that it's post-rock and make assumptions?
>>
>>60754145
No it's not. It uses well established production techniques, and well established composition techniques as well. It's not "experimental" at all.
>>
>>60757365
>It's really not that hard to get through
I don't mean it's unlistenable, I mean it's very overwhelming, especially for concentrated listeners, or when you start to remeber the music and the lyrics. Leaning back for two hours with a record playing is easy.

What's that recent album everyone says sounds like some of Swans stuff? I think the album cover has 3 masks on it with a black background
>>
>>60755230
When I made it I just put main Swans releases with like one or two extras here and there. When the new album comes out I'll revise it with more or less everything.
