Classical Music in general. It is just a much different vibe than most popular shit. I find it hard to calm down and listen to it, but when I do it is just so beautiful. Just perfection.
>>
>>60749102
Imo, Electric ladyland but thats from my narrow 18 year old perspective
>>
>>60749102
>of albums
Albums are a commercial product, they can be influential, they can have some aspect of avant garde/modernism to it, but not at the same time.
>>
>>60749146
i guess what they say about vegetables and classical music is right haha
>>
If we're talking non-classical type music, then either VU&N or Trout Mask Replica.

Honestly I don't think there is any counterpart.
>>
>>60749267
There probably is if you count old art music. Modernism in literature was accompanied by modernism in music as well. I dunno what in art music was closest to that stream-of-consciousness stuff though. Maybe Richard Strauss character-focused expressionist work Elektra?
>>
>>60749164
what is that thing that they say about vegetables and classical music anon?

What is the The Magic Mountain of music?
>>
>>60749674
>being an uncultured swine
I don't know how you live with yourself
>>
>>60749146
Classical music is stuff like Dante, the Three Musketeers, other classics. James Joyce is not in that same boat at all. He might be comparable to some contemporary modern classical, like Strauss, Holst or maybe Wagner - although those are more epic and less experimental and intellectual. I don't know a lot about modernism in music though - there's probably a better example than those.
But you're basically an idiot who seems like you know nothing about classical music (which is a wide as fuck umbrella term) nor James Joyce.

I guess, Arcade Fire tried something like that with Reflektor, but they failed in my eyes.

for rock music, it would probably be TMR

there might be some avant-garde Jazz records that fit better but I don't know enough about that to give a proper answer
>>
Trout Mask Replica
>>
i think it's most like Gangly Tooth John the Mortician - Eating Shit. that's just me tho
>>
>>60749102
It does not exist unless you count "The Dark Side of the Moon" but I think the later is too easy listening to be compared to Ulysses
>>
Serious cringe in this thread.

The correct answer is either Astral Weeks or >>60749563,
>>
Mutant
>>
>>60749102
more like pretentious, hard to get into and not rewarding at all other than having a feeling of false superiority.
ulysses is just as bad as everything proust ever wrote and it's trash, even though a product of an insane talent.
>>
>>60754439
Ulysses is the kind of crap only mega talented people can write. It's like the highest form of crap.

>>
>>60749102
Charles Ives second piano concerto or violin sonatas or symphonies
>>
Trout Mask Replica is the only correct choice

>>60749146
See point two of OP's thread
Also, classical music is not hard to get into (unless you mean contemporary classical).
Classical music isn't even album based.
Do you know how to read?

>>60749126
Not influential

>>60754922
Doesn't fit point one nor two from OP's thread.
>>
>>60755322

>>
it's trout mask you fucking retards. close this shit thread
>>
>>60755322
But OP's description of Ulysses is flawed so I disregarded it
>>
>>60755375
It's alright then. But I still disagree with your album choice (when compared to TMR).

>>60755345
It's okay. We all make mistakes.
>>
>>60755390
Not sold on the TMR comparison. Also how many people making that comparison have actually read Ulysses? I imagine most are just aware of it contextually and just default to the avant-garde/TMR thing. Ulysses has a really strong and idiosyncratic sense of place that TMR lacks, it would have to be a more atmospheric album for me. I'd be tempted to say Tago Mago is pretty close
>>
>>60755450
Yes, Tago Mago could make some sense, but it's not as "disjointed" as the book appears (I have to admit I have never read the whole book though, just a few excerpts).
The lyrics from both the album and the book are also more fitting than when compared to Tago Mago, imo.
>>
>>60755537
Yeah I guess the lyrical side of things is pretty important, and I see how TMR plays into that.

One that just came to me that I think fits the bill is Uncle Meat
>>
Disregarding OP's description for a second. Good Morning, Good Night reminded me of it in how they are ostensibly the story of a single ordinary day by ultra-modern means. The scope of banality.

But otherwise, TMR is an obvious choice.
