LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

(I'm gonna gush a bit)

It's my favorite album of all time. While I seem to cover different genres with my albums:

Breakbeat: Dig Your Own Hole
Sythpop: Oh No! It's Devo!
Post-rock: LYSF

It is impossible to put Sound of Silver in a genre. It is completely different and unlike anything else I've ever heard. When I've asked others on here, they couldn't give me anything even remotely similar, but the best we could do was Remain in Light. I guess that makes Sound of Silver something like a post-punk album, but even then it doesn't seem right.

Sound of Silver is catchy, it's fun, it's sad in parts, and it has some of the best basslines ever. In my opinion, it's the world's only completely flawless album.

If you like Sound of Silver, they only have three other albums. For something edgier see the self-titled, and for something with more bleeps and synths see This Is Happening and 45:33. However, I highly recommend listening to each one over and over again, and eventually watching the documentary on their last show, or just listening to the live album.

I mean I definitely wouldn't call it flawless, but it's a great album. You're right that there isn't a lot of dance-punk stuff out there, Remain in Light isn't even that similar. RiL is an album based around simple rhythms (mostly african and unusual instrument-based) layered over each other to create what becomes complex polyrhythms, while Sound of Silver doesn't attempt that same thing.

Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite albums. Why do most people who like it rank it among such wretches? If I see it in someone's top ten albums, it's among artists like Lady Gaga and Adele and Miley Cyrus. Is this just being done intentionally by people who secretly despise Wish You Were Here because it was made by what used to be Syd Barrett's backup band?
