But their large discography seems a little daunting, can you suggest a good album(s) for a pleb to check out and decide whether or not they're the band for me?

filth is great for plebs

Depends on what your tastes are, Swans have explored many different styles over the years. Their most accessible album is The Burning World but it isn't their best and a ton of Swans fans hate it.
>>
Chronologically, like you would with any other artist

Well according to wiki their genres are "Experimental rock, no wave, post-punk, noise rock, industrial, art rock, post-rock, neofolk"

And I would say industrial and post-punk would be the most appealing of these.

Honestly, chronologically. I would skip their first EP though and return to it later. Filth may not be the most accessible, but listening to that and then making your way through allows you to see their evolution over time. Also, listen to The Angels of Light discography too before listening to modern Swans.

If you like industrial then start with Filth.
>>
Id say to be kind personally.n

If you like industrial or no wave then start with Filth. If you like post-rock then start with Soundtracks for the Blind. If you like neo-folk then start with White Light from the Mouth of Infinity. If you like industrial rock or gothic rock then start with The Great Annihilator.

delete everything but jarboe tracks and listen to them in chronological order you pleb

So they're the reverse of the velvet underground where you skip every song with a woman singing?

this desu senpai. Good chart, although even if you're a post rock or no wave fan I recommend listening to the Great Annihilator first. It's best to leave albums like Soundtracks for the Blind and Filth for later, they're both pretty hard to get into.

Listen to new Swans from My father will guide bla bla bla and so on. Old Swans suck major shit, unless you enjoy atonal mess and sissy new wave.

Come at me you teenage pussies.

yeah i made the mistake of having my first swans experience be soundtracks. i listened all the way through the first time and loved it but it was hard to endure
