I'm just starting to get into shoegaze, do you have that chart by chance?
>>
>>60737779
>who are the contenders?
pinkshinyultrablast and spectres are talked about the most.
astrobrite, cheatahs, swervedriver, tamaryn, deafheaven, tamaryn, westkust, a sunny day in glasgow, a place to bury strangers, no joy, etc, are a bit more controversial but a lot of people hold them in high regard

Yeah. I want him to show up in this thread because I want to know if his intention in the song Sluts off of Summer Songs was to base it off of Nyan Cat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emyhtYgFppo

Seriously, listen to that and tell me that the guitar doesn't sound like Nyan Cat. Where are you, Woody Grant? I really like your album, but I'm dying to know if you meant to do that or not.

yo would guys mind combing threads with dream pop december for this month? I can put shugazi in the name and/or change the name from nothing but dream pop december to just 'dream pop december'

it doesn't make much sense to have two dream pop threads each day for a whole month and this has been a two-year tradition

>>
>>60743697
we do that to though, dream pop and shoegaze blend to close together and from there it's reasonable to incorporate all the other relate stuff like slowcore, blackgaze, space rock, some psych, ethereal wave, etc...

>>
>>60743948
cool, yeah i'd rather have a lot of people in one general then trying to split them

so is it cool if someone just makes a nothing but dream pop december thread tomorrow instead of a shugazi one if i haven't already done so?

Yeah, and whoever does it can just make it NBDPD/shugazi general or whatever

I'm interested in getting pic related, Purple Pilgrims' s/t because discogs has it listed under shoegaze, psych rock, and experimental. Has anyone else heard this and can testify to its shoegaze-ness? I'll probably still get it, but discogs doesn't always have the most accurate tags, so I'd like to know.
>>
>>60758057
idk but
>"Super-fuzzy psychedelic outsider dream pop from the ex-Christchurch now Hong Kong based sister duo of Clementine and Valentine Nixon.
>I first experienced Purple Pilgrims live in a small Lyttelton club, sweet keening ethereal folk songs that made me want to cry run through a line of op-shop guitar effects and into a single tiny guitar amp that put up a brave warbling fight and never gave up its ghost. I was struck by their complete lack of artiface and served a welcome reminder that the simplest and most heartfelt of musics can move one to the depth of ones soul. It was a goose bump performance.
>The same wide eyed simple magic is at work on these recordings, songs of light swirl tantilisingly from beneath an echoing vale of hiss and feedback and rumble as the small amp again retains its ghost.
>Purple Pilgrims also work in the visual arts producing zines that are to drawing and collage what their tape recorder day dreams are to sound.
>The final recordings for this release were masterered by Brian Crook of The Renderers. Purple Pilgrims have produced a video to celebrate their debut release."

A guy on here said "Is it pronounced shugazi, like the band Fugazi?" or something similar, and it stuck.
I've actually thought about pronouncing it this way once, which I thought was funny once this became a thing. There is also some band page on FB and myspace from like 4-5 years ago called Shugazi, and claim to make music that is like shogaze fugazi, but it's a joke and they have not tracks, sadly.
>>
What's stopping me from stealing someone's riff and then putting it in a constant loop and I just reverb the fuck out of it and feed it plugins until it sounds like popcorn in the microwave and then I just record myself screaming and layer it 3 minutes in and finish "my song" and then I photoshop a picture of wooden baby blocks next to a pyramid and slap a name on it like "nutseed library" and then I keep doing this until you faggots find my shit and start eating it up

I'm a fan. They have a pretty wide range of styles throughout their discography, though, and a lot of it isn't really /shugazi/. I've tried to talk about them here before, but no takers.
Not being in charts shouldn't bother you, /shugazi/ is a pretty small group. The "essentials" charts that are floating around represent something like 4 guys' tastes and a couple of hours of focus grouping in a nearly dead thread. Basically I'm saying /shugazi/ a shit and you shouldn't trust anyone's opinion here.
>>
>>60771518
shojoskip is so great. Their first album (and i think only) is one of my favorites.

Why does Vaadat Charigim never seem to get mentioned in here?

jewgaze

i like it, but i beginning to get tird of that sort of that semi-detatched, not-too-intense-but-not-emotionless, indie rock sound. I still think these guys do it well. I think the way the distorted guitars blend in with the acoustic guitar is way better than i've heard it sound with bands like drop nineteens
>>
>>60779367
Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of that kind of style as well but as you said they do it really well.

I've never actually listened to drop nineteens they worth a listen if I liked this?
>>
>>60779515
Drop Nineteens are not really that similar to these guys but I'd say they're always worth a listen if you're into that first wave of shoegaze. They had some more energy than a lot of the shoegaze stuff coming out around then, so they're pretty interesting
