wtf happened to the actual /hhg/s? i bailed on mu for like 4 days and came back to see fuckin nothing
>>60724373
I don't know dude, I tried.
Also, anyone have suggestions for artists similar to the OP pic? Shahmen is fucking dope and I need more shit like that
this was a solid album
What did people think of pic related?
Also, anybody write raps here? How do you practice your writing? Also flowing, and freestyling. Like I can sit in my room all day writing or trying to freestyle but I don't really feel like I'm getting better, should I just try and mimic people and move on from there? Kinda new at this, sorry.
Also I think Mac Miller's new album was pretty good
>>60724750
Following up from this, is there any good like drone hip hop? Like some super dark, industrial beats, sort of like Dalek but more droney?
>>60724697
Agreed
>>60724771
You'll probably like Uochi Toki. He has droning rap songs that go on for 16 minutes sometimes.

>>60724750
literally just keep doing it and do it in front of people or if you record something show it to someone, no matter how horrible it is
once they inevitably tell you it's bad, stick with it and you'll improve. it's all about getting comfortable and more confident
Moms Spaghetti
>>60724851
Haha yeah I try whenever I get the opportunity, the only kids I know who are into freestyling are hella into Hopsin and Immortal Technique and try to replicate their styles, while I try to go for a more meme rap/not serious feel, and we just get frustrated with each other. Fuck rapping about being straight edge and wanting everyone to get along and be friends tho
>>60724866
Yeah I've been throwing some stuff up on soundcloud lately and sharing it around a bit, there's actually some awesome feedback in the SC threads so that's been a great resource
>>60724963
link your stuff i'll follow you
>>60724933
Well it usually boils down to us drinking and smoking to the point where we don't care about what we say. Other than that I would suggest rapping to instrumentals in the original artist's style. It's a good game to play if you want want to work on versatility or if you haven't found your right flow yet.

this albums heavily inspired by DOOM, you might wanna check out Vaudeville Villain if you liked this album. as for writing, just keep on doing it, read more, don't rip one person's flow just borrow from many different people to make it your own
>>60724514
nah no offense senpai, i just miss the general images and all those charts. did they just die off outta lack of interest or did it get over taken with trapcunts?

I thought EARL's album was fucking terrible. I couldn't wait to delete it while I was listening to it. I really liked Huey too but the rest of the album was shit
>>60724179
So, /hhg/, do you ever get that feeling like "I'm going to rap one day" and feel shameful about it afterwards?
>>60725328
Didn't hate it, but I like Earl better when he's doing more wordplay type of stuff, like on Hive or Oldies. This serious, dark aesthetic he's been doing is cool and all but I don't think he's as great at it
I fucking hate this board. Tripfags and circlejerks and listening to whole fucking albums? Who has the time for that? Just listen to songs and select the ones you want, delete the rest.

beat selection isn't that bad, you're practically whispering tho, speak up. be more confident. listen to your favorite rappers and then compare it to how you sound.
followed anyway, i think you'll get better
>>60725910
by rapping about absolutely nothing very fast alongside equally talentless artists
>>60725910
Anybody with a good work ethic can do it. Look at Gucci Mane, he's got thousands of hours of shit that's already recorded, so much so that he's able to drop a new mixtape every month while in jail. I'm sure most committed artists usually have pretty big backlogs. I remember reading Mac Miller saying he recorded like 200 different songs for Watching Movies, and Earl has hundreds of songs stashed away
>>60725920
care to elaborate/any tips? im not arguing that theyre not shit soo
>>60725910
To be fair most of the albums could be cut down to like 13-15 songs, theres usually a few shit ones.
>>60725941
They're always rapping about something though, also pretty much everyone on Strange has a fair bit of talent.
>>60725968
What DAW are you using? Probably read about compression and EQ, find out how professionals do it, and look into copying that professional aesthetic into your stuff, unless you want it to sound the way it does for a reason. You should tweak the velocities of your hits so that there's a more interesting pattern going on too. Tbh I don't know much about it either, just sort of passing along criticisms that have been given to me lol because your drums are sounding how mine used to sound. The beat's pretty good otherwise though
>>60726019
i swear im not shit at producing, ive made an entire album a while back and just trying to get back into the rhythm #MVRBLEMIX
>>60726048
Lol I'm not saying you are, I'm sure you're more experienced than I am I've just been working at it as a hobby on the side while I've been in school, and only seriously started getting into it this August

Why is Tech N9ne's aesthetic so shit?

>>60726194
I'll give you that one, it's a horrible album cover.
>>60726193
It looks tacky Af and he raps about try hard edgy shit
>>60726245
He occasionally goes into edgy territory no doubt but for the most part he's pretty sincere, I mean on his new album there's really only one song you could really argue is "edgy".
>>60726137
his aesthetic his legit worse than what the try-hard, autistic Islander that was obsessed with hip-hop at my school would edit up on Photoshop.
The man has no taste, this also remains true for his sonic output.
Artists like Young Thug and Future however are reasonable at constructing a more consistent and refined aesthetic that is also more authentic.
TechN9ne's aesthetic is visibly similar to Juggalo and Eminem fan-art.
http://images.rapgenius.com/ehkaqaomblnyowkib3b0jqzy5.1000x800x1.jpg
>>60726297
Ignoring aesthetics do you seriously believe Young Thug and Future have more talent than Tech? I can agree that Tech comes of as edgy some of the time but his music is generally pretty good.
>>60726297
smelly juggalos and trailer trash are making him millions so i don't blame him for not fucking with the formula as musically worthless as it is
>>60726343
Tech has a better technical flow, but Thug and Future have a more creative output IMO. Thugger especially is willing to experiment a lot, I think his confidence in his creativity is his biggest appeal and what makes it work.
Tech can definitely rap better though
>>60726452
I can respect that, I don't agree but I can get where you're coming from. To be fair I really can't get into Young Thug or Future's music at all.
>>60726479
Agree with the experimentation is what I meant by the way, though I can't really comment on a lot of Young Thugs or Futures music as I just haven't listened to a lot of it.
I know it's a little mainstream, but my home boy got me hooked on this shit cuz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O61F6qfKEOM/ Why haven't you listened to this-.
>>60726343
>do you seriously believe Young Thug and Future have more talent than Tech
Somewhat, there's no doubt Tech has some talent in his rapping velocity, however Thugger's talent is his creative, avant-garde flows and inflections. Future is not necessarily talented but is creative with his original mumblecore style that fits into an authentically and effortlessly executed style.
Also talent isn't everything, there is no doubt that the producers behind Thugger and Future such as 808 Mafia, Metro, London, Southside, etc. are far more talented and are making far more interesting instrumentals than the lack-lustre output by Tech's main producer Seven.
Aesthetic wise, Thugger and Future bring a visual style to the table which is both contemporary and yet still original. TechN9ne's however is highly derivative of 2000s horrorcore aesthetic, including Eminem and Juggalo fan-artwork. It communicates a complete lack of taste or interest in the presentation of his work which are meant to provide context visual cues to the thematic elements of his work.
>>60726499
I feel it, I think both have their own draws. I mostly pretend to hate on Tech because it's the cool thing to do, but actually don't think he's bad at all lol. I think he just reiterates a lot of tropes common to his style of hip hop, whereas with YT and Future, or even Gucci Mane, it feels like I'm always hearing something new, even if it's ass lol
>>60726604
Really important point you made I think is that Thugger and Future work with some really talented producers, whereas Tech's aren't as great.
>>60726651
Yeah and if Tech actually had any taste he's ditch his producers and work with some more interesting beat-makers and clean-up his aesthetic. He is still the artist and curator of his work at the end of the day. His shit music is not the fault of his producers, only he can be blamed, he needs to get some more artistic agency and learn to be a better curator.
https://youtu.be/6-FC9l8dJaM
Can we talk about Kevin Abstract? Just got introduced to him today and I gotta say, he blows me away
>>60726604
I can understand that man, I hate all the mumbling that future does but I can get why people would enjoy it. As for Seven he's somewhat talented but it's true that the others are better producers. I would say Mayday are better producers than Young Thugs producers though.
>>60726615
I can get that, at this point Tech is kinda just stuck repeating shit he's done, but to be fair he has been at it for like 20 years, the fact that he's still releasing enjoyable music is pretty good. At this point other members of strange are better than Tech though.

>>60727477
In all seriousness, what did you think of the album? A proper answer.
haven't listened to any hip hop artist in quite awhile and the latest rap album i have on my phone is Run the Jewels 2
has 2015 been a good year for rap is what i'm basically asking
>>60727501
To be clear, I'm not the fuck white people anon, I just wanted to use my salty cracker reaction image
anyways, I liked it a lot. I'm not a huge fan of logic, but it's definitely an improvement over Under Pressure. I don't really have much to say about it, but seeing as how I'm not a huge fan of his personal style, so seeing him flavor it by taking inspiration from so many other rappers was really nice. Like hot sauce in bland noodles, if that makes any sense. I'd much rather be eating noodles at a restaurant that come flavored already, but for what it is, it's quite nice.
>>60727540
It's been alright, there have been a few great albums. Check out Lupe Fiasco- Tetsuo and Youth.
