Is the problem with hip hop elitists that they still view "hip hop" as one entirely coherent genre and fail to recognize that it involves many subgenres in the same way "rock" or "jazz" or "electronic" do, and will some day be at the same level of diversity as "jazz" or "rock" or "electronic" music?

HH fans have more in-group arguments than any other genre because HH is going through an identity crisis. Or growing pains.
The old split was backpacker vs traditional rap. Now that shit has fractured into dozens of sub-genres all whining about what the "future" of HH is or needs to be.

yeah, it's basically because it's young,simply. hiphop is a conservative genre, but give it 20 years and it will be as integrated as every other big genre, and not necessarily be tied with the socio-political movement that it is, and dot wil go down as the general king of hiphop
