After years of trying to understand why it's so influential, I think today was the first time I listened to the whole album through and really really enjoyed it.
Am I becoming patrician?

>patrician
or you just conditioned yourself to enjoying an album as a result of cultural pressure

Is that wrong though?
No but your taste is getting worse. Congrats.
TMR is definitely Beefheart's most infamous album, and there was nothing else like it in '69, but while it has some standout tracks I've never found it to be all that pleasurable to listen to as a whole. I honestly think some of his later albums are better, Lick My Decals Off Baby and Doc at the Radar Station are amazing, really fun albums that hold on to the weirdness of TRM.
Lately I've really been digging Clear Spot, it was made during a period in the early 70s when Beefheart was attempting to make something more commercially viable but it's a really beautiful album with a lot of subtle genius.
this album literally sucks shit
>falling for the meme
I don't get what's "challenging" about this album
