ITT: music people pretend to like
>>60668924
how can our eyes be real if our ears aren't real?
Arca is pretty good, I don't know what you're talking about
That album is dank OP. Idk what you're on.
>>60668924
But OP this album is danker then the PINKGUY mixtape
>>60669005
lol ;P
>>60668924
You fell for the its cool to be a contrarian faggot meme huh
Arca is fucking terrible at writing.
Nice sound designer, but that's not enough to cut it.
>>60669262
he wrote the best track of the year tho
that's enough for me
you can actually tell that most of mutant was composed with technical skills on an actually piano. it's not just relentless wankery.
>>60669348
what track m8
>>60669366
the title track
it's transcendental
>>60669379
yeah its great
arca sucks
all hype no substance
I like it. And Im cool. Feel like a visionary man
>>60669404
i bet you think sufjan stevens is good lmao
>>60669394
:) glad you think that way
>>60669367
Just on /mu/ though
Their main fan saw is weirdly dedicated to them, it's a bunch of middle aged British people with Cardiacs pictures all over their facebook page, I've never seen anything like it
>>60668924
why are you so mad you dont like it?
>>60669417
Die faggot
I like it but it gives me headache at the morning
>>60669529
i had a headache the first time i heard diamanda galas
later i found out it wasn't diamanda's music that gave me the headache
>>60669574
cont.
it was a lack of absolute ear
>>60669262
>Arca is fucking terrible at writing.
the only people who think this are terrible at listening. They hear Mutant and just hear a bunch of fancy noise when there's actually a shit ton of counter melodies and crap going on harmonically.
>>60669574
Is it the franticness of her vocals that's supposed to be so good? I can get why her stuff is respected in circles but I don't get why it is held so highly.
>>60668924
every arca song sounds like the intro to a good song except the good part never happens
>>60669379
I feel like the start of that track is excellent and probably the most brutal thing I've heard in experimental electronic shit since Autechre's Ganz Graf but honestly the rest of it just sounds very bland and repetitive, it doesn't develop any of it's melodic ideas in an interesting manner at all.
>>60669657
i was disturbed and repelled when i first heard her debut album
i was into noise at the time, because i was trying to "reach an absolute ear"
then i could get tingles from her snake hiss sounds or whatever that was
then i heard the ambience of synths in the background
but it wasn't until i heard divine punishment that i was blown away
then i listened to hear second album and realized it was better than her first
>>60669772
i guess the things we feel when we hear stuff really are subjective to some extent
for me the ending of the track was the most compelling. it was a relative bliss in sounds and timbre. i thought the sun shone brightly than when the track started.
Arca is shit
>>60669933
i guess i should be proud then
>>60668924
>music people pretend to like
So, Jazz in general
fuck you mac demarco and his clones
>>60670022
But I honestly do like Jazz
>>60670100
Sure you do, buddy
>>60670116
but I do
>>60670139
yoo doo right
That album with a woman having a potato as head or something, sitting in a boat on the water
>>60669616
yeah no
>>60670067
man it must be so fun just posting that picture all day. you must have a very interesting and fulfilling life going on.
>>60669669
Fucking this.
Stretch 1 > Stretch 2 > Mutant > Baron Libre > Xen
i mean just sounds like idm without drums. don't really love it or hate it
Listened to the album a few times.
The whole thing transitions well, but the album feels pretty incomplete -- most songs feel kind of unfleshed out or too short. The fact that they work well together doesn't really make up for it. I feel like he just tries to do as much as possible in most songs without worrying about tying things together, thematically.
Still some cool lil tracks on there though -- its certainly not terrible, but its not amazing either. I def. don't get people sayings its better than OPN's GOD, which I didn't think was incredible either (just pretty good).
I will say I like how arca morphs individual instruments or sounds to spiral into something else entirely by the effects he uses.
>>60669262
electronic music is more about sound design than it is about melodic composition anyways. the main characteristics are texture and rhythm. just listen to dance music
>>60672384
this is what's sort of confusing to me a bit, how idm is generally seen as uncool or played out now, nerdy even, yet people like Arca and artists on PAN etc. are seen as "hip" when they're not all that different from it. it's odd imo.
>>60673003
Depends on the music. It is true though that electronic producers tend to gravitate toward sound design more because the production methods grant them total control over sound.
>>60670226
pleb ears detected.
Did you guys read TMT's review of this? embarrassing.
>>60668924
I undoubtedly think that Jazz tends to attract the most pretentious people of any genre. That's not to say that there isn't good jazz music out there though.
In my country this is what people pretend to like.
sunn o))) (any drone artists really)
gy!be
>>60668924
I like this, it's like EDM Burial without drums
>>60673334
Neither of those are true.
Drone is fairly easy to appreciate.
gy!be is too entry level.
My vote would be for most free jazz, and harsh noise.
>>60673304
lol you live in Finland right?
I love classical music just Sibelius is one of those composers I can't get into.
>>60673342
>EDM
>>60672996
hey there
just stopping by to tell you you sound like a little anthony fantano
you probably watch him almost every day
your knowledge of electronic stuff though is really shallow, but you're that guy who thinks you don't need to know anything, you just have to listen to songs and see if songs have this and that and if they meet your shallow expectations
>>60673429
Sibelius is pretty tough to get into, the symphonies don't really have any mainstream appeal. He was pretty progressive. Finns love him for Finlandia, through.
But there's an exception: listen to Sibelius' violin concerto in D minor, it's a really beautiful piece of music.
>>60673917
christ how did that sound like fantano? is any music related criticism now fantano-like? besides, it's a very common critique of arca's work that it's rather surface level in terms of actual songwriting - that anon isn't the only one saying so.
>electronic stuff
yeah you sure sound like an expert yourself
>>60668924
It's probably my favourite album of all time.
>>60673342
thats such a fucking dumb thing to say
that triggered me honestly man
>>60674627
i'm an expert myself
not on pop songwriting like you
more on the side of musique concrete in post-modern dance musique
you got yo own thang i got mine
naw fuck off
>>60669434
this desu
>>60668924
Arca is just Lotic for poor peoples
>>60673429
>>60673972
sibelius is just post-romantism, hard to get lol. Listen to schoenberg or messiaen maybe
>>60669462
>>60669462
>>60669462
>>60669462
>>60669462
nail on head innit
ppl need to stop being insecure because it shits up the board with threads like this
>>60673279
>That's not to say
Get out you pretentious piece of shit
not gonna lie, listening right now and the first two tracks were great
the production is pretty amazing desu
>>60668924
anything rated highly by pitchfork, although that's not to say there are no people who sincerely like those albums
>>60675020
lmao
if you think that's a pretentious thing to say you need to read more, its an extremely common expression senpai
Disappointed in half the songs for lack of intresting structure, but I'm a softy for sound design. Some of it has really interesting rhythms. I mainly don't like his melodies, although a few are really strong. Still waiting for him to implement what he's doing now into more Stretch 2 like songs.
>>60674797
Any of that is literally too deep for me.
But there's context to this, and it's world war 2. The nazis were in love with Wagner's music and romantic music in general. None of that was pretty much in fashion after the bombs fell and the world was in ruins.
So, the composers alive after the war took a turn to the absolute opposite direction and wrote music that was against the ideals of the music that was loved by them oppressors. This was the new starting point, and that's too much for us common plebs.
>>60675069
People are so weird on here. One time I used the phrase "in their wheelhouse" and I got accused of being a middle aged sports newscaster.
>>60674684
Jesus Christ lad
>>60673143
Saw this artwork posted around a lot recently.
God damn, this is total shit, are you all memeposting or what?
>>60675847
Seriously. How can anyone say they like this?
>>60675847
>fart
I love leftfield shit but this goes way too far. It's interesting for a few minutes but then it just goes to the background.
>>60676081
because of that I feel like it's a really good album for just relaxation
probably wasn't intended to be that way but still gives it purpose
>>60673043
This is true, honestly. People get so hung up on labels.
