Honestly I find this quite dull. I like post-rock and I like some electronic music but they just don't do it for me when you put them together. I see you getting recc'd a lot on here so i felt like I should check it out. But I guess i just don't get it.

The middle link was pretty interesting. Unique but pretty accessible. I like it. The other two free improv ones were not my cup of tea. The third one was a bit better than the first one but I'm still not huge on totally free improv.

Posted this in a BC thread a few days ago asking for some feedback on my vocals since this is the first solo effort I've put out and first time I've sang on a project. So if any of you guys have any general feedback or critiques I'd appreciate it.

>>60656303
I dug your new track man. Took some really gripping turns and some that were a bit less than gripping but the more rhythmic parts of the track were where things got interesting for me. I particularly liked that more filtered, lo-fi, underlying synth you had going on at points throughout the track too, especially in the beginning though - gave me some real I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids vibes
>>
>>60656872
I like your vocals man. You're not an amaaaazing singer, but you're good enough, and your voice is more in the baritone range and has a sort of country-ish quality to it, both of are refreshing in a genre dense with whiny fuccbois.

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure. I want to give a detailed critique because I like getting them, golden rule and all that shit. But I'm not sure I can articulate it. I listened to Gossamer all the way through and jumped through a couple parts of Phantasmagoria. I'm a fan of punk and grind and more immediate styles of music, so part of it might have been the two minute ambient intro testing my patience. But then again I do like stuff like Stars of the Lid and Hammock, so ambiance is something I can theoretically get behind. But even once the beat dropped it utterly failed to engage me. Or I utterly failed to engage it. You can look at it either way.

I guess post-rock stuff, even when it's building veeeeerrry veeeerrryy slowwwwly, has a sense of movement to it, like it's definitely going somewhere, and you just have to watch it get there to be rewarded. But I didn't really get that sense from your stuff. It started out soft and got louder, sure. You added layers of melody/chords as it got louder. But the music itself didn't feel, to me, like it was moving. Your choice of notes didn't suggest there anything else to come. There was no tension or expectation. So when the beat dropped, it was like, "yep, there's a beat." And it repeated itself, and repeated itself, and then it stopped. And faded in again and faced the same issue.

I hope that helps, it was kind of rambling. But that's just how I see it. No knock on you, obviously people like it. I just don't. But I'm only one guy.

Alright

Honestly, I hate a lot of the stuff I make, so any way I can find to improve it is good. I know a lot of my stuff is directionless and redundant, and honestly I've grown tired of making new stuff at all at this point. Nothing feels good or even remotely completed, and I don't see myself improving enough to account for all the flaws in what I do.

Again, thanks. Every little bit helps, and your criticism especially has been invaluable

I like the guitar work a lot. Reminds me of Hum-meets-Yo La Tengo-meets-Mansions or something but it's cool and all the clean and distorted tones are nicely done. My one criticism would probably be that the vocals are a little too buried in the layer of reverb and rest of the mix when the distorted guitar in the chorus kicks in, which is a bit of a shame since that part sounds ace melody-wise. Drums could also be a bit more present in the mix too I think. Overall though very solid stuff with great melodic sensibilities

I don't think I've listened to enough of this to give too many words, but this is definitely one of those things which I find in these threads and remember for a long time. I love how much substance this has, and how it almost feels tangible. I feel like I'm sorta floating aimlessly and seeing all my memories flashing in my head. I got such a hyper-nostalgic feeling on "Messenger", and came pretty close to tears. There are also some pieces on here which make me feel very uneasy and paranoid, like on "Haydaze". I could go on listing all the things I feel while listening to this, but that's the only thing that I think really matters;
This music makes me feel things, which is really the biggest purpose of most art forms.

>>60656545
This again is also something which makes me feel a lot. I think your name describes the music perfectly. This feels like being in the lower alleys of the kowloon walled city at night, listening to the radiators and the faulty tech and all the sounds of the people drone on and on, creating a very psychedelic effect. These are such densely layered and intricate sounds. "Deep Breathing" is one of the best atmosphere setting pieces of music I've ever heard. It's almost as if all the memories and thoughts of what is left over of the walled city is just ringing out and looping in my head.

>>60657841
I think the formula you have going on here is pretty cool. I enjoy the grandiosity this manages to keep while still remaining fairly minimal.
All the acoustic arrangements are laid out well among the vocal harmonies. I also enjoy the little whiffs of ambient guitar sounds or keyboards laying low in the mix on some parts. It has a very authentic and dynamic atmosphere. My only complaints are some of the drum sounds here. They're all electronic and feel somewhat out of place in the mix while everything else sounds live and authentic.

I reached the text limit now so i'll make another post when i've listened more. great thread.

Don't let it get to you dog. If you don't enjoy making music anymore then you don't enjoy it, but don't let a little bit of writer's block or the words of one grumpy fuck on a bandcamp thread bother you. I'm normally either brutally dumped on or ignored entirely in these threads, but it never stopped me. And writing new material, even if you have to force yourself, is the only way to improve. i try to shit out a riff a day and I write it down or record it no matter how bad it is. Try that. Also study the music of Wagner. dude had tension and grandiosity down to a science.
