"don't say edm"
"grime is not hip hop"
I know little to nothing about EDM so that doesn't bother me so much but grime isn't hip-hop
ABSOLUTE SHITE
Why are britbong rappers so uptight about genre names anyway
>>60649556
mericans use edm to only identify popular dance music, even though edm is an incredibly wide umbrella genre
we just got sick and let the mericans keep it. we have electronica to use anywa...
>>60649601
I guess because grime origins are rooted in jungle and garage etc rather than hip-hop. It started with Djs just emceeing over their instrumentals they made for raves n shit.
Cus we're always lookin 4 a scrap m8
>>60649673
Wtf are jungle and garage
>>60649601
>>60649556
I'll tell you why. Groups like London Posse came out rapping with english accents but essentially in the US mold.

Then there was people like silver bullet who used faster beats with influences from dance tunes.

MCing at raves and then garage a bit later meant more people learnt to spit bars in ways that weren't compatible to US hip hop and america had no itnerest in hearing it. So it became it's own thing.

Electronic music that incorporated heavy, grimy bass and a lot of fucking breakbeats. Example below

And here an example of early grime

Say what you like about Kanos beats but his flow is impeccable
>>60650063
It's the exact same thing though. Black no-talents yelling over music, trying to keep an incredible simple vocal rhythm going for as long as possible through corny rhymes that would make any first year poetry student wince. Disgusting and lazy music on both sides of the Atlantic

WHAT'S MA NAME NOW
>>60650179
So to you it's like punk but for blacks?
>>60650127
mate that beat still outproduces any US Hip Hop.
It made me laugh how a lot of yanks didn't get boy in da corner but then started producing like it 10 years later lmao
>>60650212
No, because punk musicians actually knew how to compose a pop song, albeit poorly. Hip hop is below virtually all genres of popular music, it is the scum of modern times
>>60650179
there's isn't a fedora big enough for this one
grime isnt hip hop though.
>>60650258
I love how it's only recently americans have discovered grime, when it's sadly way past being as good as it used to be. Like who would have thought Drake would have performed with Skepta five years ago. Mad.
Also,
>mfw if Wiley produced for US rappers
>>60650258
Nobody in America gives a single fuck about dizee rascal and nobody emulates him in any way
I seriously don't think british people understand how little Americans care about UK hip hop. It will always be a goofy and unpopular interpretation of superior American music, just like British rock, just like British jazz, just like virtually all of modern British pop music
>>60650269
Donald Trump/10
>>60650357
Come 2 South London m8 I'll show u a thing or 2 about grime
>>60649556
bcs europeans are better at music
>>60650405
>Come 2 South London
I don't like Muslims or corny British rappers pretending to be Americans. I will pass, thanks
>>60650422
Fair enough. To each their own (but South London is mainly Jamaicans and janky white coke dealers)
>>60650357
yfw this is how americans actually think
no wonder nobody likes you
>>60650357
I meant the beats you mong. I don't give a fuck about dizee himself.
You are literally years behind in the studio on nearly all fronts.
Even our mainstream shit producers like Calvin Harris run rings around someone like Pitbull, let alone our "IDM".
>>60650538
lmao that Dj Mustard is considered a good producer over there.
