I don't think it was "pop trash" it was definitely pop when produced by someone like Brian Eno you can expect some of his art rock to rub off on the group. I think the album is an excellent blend of inspirations from all different genres while still maintaining its own sound

Now, the early records were overall good, but literally everyone knew even back then that they would go to shit as they got bigger.

I actually liked Mylo Xyloto. It blended pop into their sound seamlessly, and while I can understand not liking that poppiness, it was cohesive and fun. Compare that to Ghost Stories, a mess of lazy ballads and fucking Avicci bass drops.
This is better than I expected. Some enjoyable, funky stuff. Despite selling out big time they're still great songwriters. The features make me want to vomit but Adventure Of a Lifetime and Birds are great.
Miles better than Ghost Stories, about as good as Mylo.
