OK, /mu/, I've been put in charge of the playlist for a party. However, I'm having some real difficulty with it. Most of the music that I listen to isn't really party appropriate (too avant garde and low tempo). If I picked stuff that I liked, it would probably be a real downer. What should I include?

Most of my friends listen to surf rock, (/mu/ approved) country/western, rockabilly, rap, and the like. Need some music that people can party to.

Don't bother with patrician music, just put Hotline Bling on repeat like a normal person.

what kind of party is it
is it casual get together stuff or is it a get-fucked-up kind of party
>>

Most of the people there like good stuff. I just happen to mostly listen to somewhat depressing/off beat music like Slackeye Slim and Nick Cave that isn't really the kind of thing that people party to.

>>60638543

It is a bunch of 20-30 year old hipsters getting fucked up

At that kind of gatherings I usually just blast some aphex twin. Almost all of my friends are plebs though

the first five words of this guys post are things you should do
ignore the rest

Start off with things like explosions in the sky, Hauschka, some classical, maybe battles if your homies are into more energetic stuff. do this for the first hour, and make sure you build up from slow to energetic over the course of the hour

hours two and three you should fill with more intelligent and thought provoking music. people will be buzzed enough to talk but still sober enough to think. some decemberists, some sufjan stevens, tribe called quest, maybe a little nas and j.cole, but keep in mind this is a party and sad music isn't really appropriate (yet). like that anon said, FIDLAR is a good choice. The happy sounding death cab songs and more energetic radiohead songs might not be a bad choice. This is the best time to show off how cultured your musical tastes are, try and be diverse in genre and year of release. Avoid the uber mainstream stuff (no drake unless the majority insists. and if they do insist pack up your shit and leave because they have no fucking taste and don't deserve yours.)

Hour four, now people are drunk. put on fun and energetic music like Walk the moon, phoenix, vampire weekend, passion pit, if you have friends who are into EDM this is when you should play it, but don't get bogged down into one subgenre. Bassnectar is always appropriate, throw in some kygo and duke dumont, some of avicii's more complex stuff (avicii plays avicii songs are good for this), maybe some dillon francis for wonky fun tracks.

hour five, the party is winding down and everybody still there is fucked up. you can play WHATEVER YOU WANT! Huge backstreet boys fan? people who would sneer at you in the daylight for listening to them will enthusiastically cheer and sing along. got a weakness for singer/songwriteresses? get ye drunkies to jam out to joanna newsom. bored with what you've been playing? put on your favorite album and watch people bob their heads along.
