go do a Google wiki search you melons
>>60626276
I know zero pieces written in it, it's naturally very dissonant, it's overall just shitty and you can't create cool melodies with it

Scales all relative to each other, basis of all music basically. They all have the same sum of intervals but are shifted over by one 'white key.'
Ionian is 'Major,' all white keys with a tonic on C. Ionian makes up all 'major' music, by far the most common.
Dorian is all whites with a tonic on D, Eleanor Rigby is written in Dorian. It has a flatted third, making it a minor scale, and a flatted 7th, giving it a cool jazzy feel.
I could continue.

I like to explain
Phrygian starts on E, a minor scale that's doomy and dissonant thanks to its flatted second. Army of Me by bjork is in Phrygian, so is Stockholm Symdrome by Muse.
Lydian is cool as fuck. Starts on F, it's basically major but has a tritones instead of a normal 4th. Tritones being the most dissonant interval, it is happy and explosive yet has this playful dissonance that makes it kind of 'middle-eastern'.
Mixolydian is G, major scale except for flatted 7th. Major but better, kind of bluesy, Marquee Moon is written in Mixolydian.
A is Aeolian. Natural minor, basic minor scale. Like Ionian, it's the basis of most western music. Any normal 'minor' melody in history is Aeolian.
B is Locrian, a dissonant half step down from Ionian (C). You know it's a weird scale when it's triad chord has a tritone in it. It's the most unstable and unpleasant mode for sure, like no pieces are written solely in Locrian.

Is that a good explanation?

I already knew about the Modes but that's a great explanation.. Thanks m8

its not a good one
the real reason is because the "I" chord in locrian is a diminished chord. Now try making a song that has any kind of key centering around a diminished chord as tonic. It doesn't work as a key
Where's your melodic minor modes, anons?
God Tier
VII altered scale (Diminished Whole Tone)
Lydian Augmented
Good Tier

Mixolydian #11

how will the C major chord progression affect the modes? will it always feel like it should dissolve to C even though the melody is doing something in the lydian mode?
Can we make a /theory/ general
modes r fuggots
