I really disagree, I wouldn't even say today's music is an evolution from past music, it's totally different. Technology changes everything.

Of course it's influence is strong and clear on later music, but what great artists do is synthesize: they take bits and pieces of earlier works and assimilate them, into bits and pieces from others and their own, making their own, relatively unique style. And that is how art has always been, really: whether it is literature, painting, music, whatever, the veins of influence are always clear, but what flows through them is different, separate, spreading into adjacent vessels and capillaries, always changing in composition.

It's too complicated to sum up in one post but for lack of a better explanation I'd say it's more streamlined, carries less of the mystical influence of physical playing methods esp vinyl, has much more variety and is generally more agressive
