less reverb, m9, or at least don't reverb the claps into oblivion, you have no high end.

guys i have fucking mega problems with arrangement. i can write good (imo) melodies, decent sound design, etc, but i have no idea how to string musical parts together without it sounding amateur as fuck.

it seems like whenever my tracks end up having actual decent progression it's completely by accident. how do i fix this

>>
>>60615454
no
post production (in my case) is after the track is finished, in terms of all you said (arrangement, melodies, sound design etc.) you start twitching, tweaking, mixing channels again, mastering, effecting glitching dubbin whatever suits
it just opens so many doors to other dimension of creation, you just go with it senpai
dat makes fire fo sure
for example this is a track without any post production, im waiting for vocals, its sounds very amateru and boring cuz no post production (hence this is an instrumental so it needs vocals, nonethless to say there are many musical opinions on everything, so again, go with ur sounds senpai

musical idea: put the windows "usb disconnect" sound in a song and then end it abruptly

Anyone else here shocked by how well they can stay in key when singing? I swear I've never even sang in my life, but I guess a years of doing scales and transcribing melodies and harmonies from ear has helped. I'm definitely not naturally gifted, I just think I've learned to recognize intervals somehow.

are you listening to a recording of yourself singing, or just singing along.

record yourself singing, then play it back with no backing, or with some very quiet chords, and you'll see how well you sing.

Some people do have naturally excellent pitch though. It can often be genetic too, early missionaries in the pacific found that the natives sang christian songs with a pure, excellent pitch. You're not Fijian are you?

Hey everyone. Just getting back into music after I had a brain hemorrhage a few months ago. Been having my first musical ideas since the accident.

Went out and bought a Nektar LX49 (I usually play guitar but my left hand doesn't work yet). Came up with this.

Any feedback would be appreciated, and any advice on mixing, EQ, effects, post-production, what I could add, etc.
>>
>>60619068
I had the same situation a while back and got the pads... they work really well for smaller monitors.

Another option is sorbothane.

2:24
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV4XSYJkjfo

On amazon you can find "sorbothane hemispheres". But for it to work, it has to be right for the weight of your speakers. If you're going to get 4 hemispheres per speaker (one in each corner), you divide the weight of the speaker by 4, and that is the load that each hemisphere should be able to hold (it says on the amazon description what it's load is). If the speakers are too light or too heavy for the hemispheres, it won't absorb vibration properly.

The good thing about going the sorbothane route is that you get isolation that is specific to your exact speakers.
>>
>>60620724
no reason to get something else imo, what do you need that this doesn't have?
>>
>>60620263
Kick doesn't really fit, it's too... trancy? And too complicated, aim for a simpler one, with more sub maybe. And bass gets in the way of it, sidechain that shit.
Not sure what you were going for with those dial tones, but they're rather harsh. Maybe replace them with some lighter arps or some shit.
>>
>>60622295
I layered two 808 kicks, so one is sub other is the click. I get what you mean though.

>sidechain
Will do. I forgot that existed. I lost a lot of memory.

>Not sure what you were going for with those dial tones, but they're rather harsh. Maybe replace them with some lighter arps or some shit.
It's more of an outro thing than a lead. It's there to anchor the end of the track essentially.

Thanks for the feedback. How is it besides that?
Like I said, I usually play guitar (barely touch electronic music), but my left hand doesn't really work because of the hemorrhages. Should come back in time though.

>>
>>60623226
That's a lot for selling leases, but not a lot in general for production work. I make customs and make that off around two or three tracks.
>>
>>60623270
but i could retire now and still make more and more money every month because my project grows over time by itself.
>>

>>
>>60623328
i'm free and own all of my time, but i'm not living the dream lol.
>>
>>60623290
Absolutely incorrect, you're assuming there's an infinite number of people interested in leasing your beats, that they're always going to find your stuff and that they're "timeless"/always going to be "in" enough.

Marketing and inventory update are the things that take the most time with this type of business. Don't quit your day job at this point, you'd get fucked on the "bad months".
>>
>>60622422
Well, shit, mate, hope your recovery goes well.

It's a little empty, the hats are dry and the pattern is not very interesting. Maybe some delay/reverb could liven them up.
The pad sounds good, but add some swishes and swooshes and noises to build up dem energy levels, because the transitions are pretty abrupt.
>>
>>60623395
I made ~55$ only for youtube ads this month.
I made ~25$ from youtube 3 months ago.
I made ~10$ a year ago.
I'll give it more and time and add some new beats now and then. That'll do it. Subscribers are also "exploding" right now. ~30+ subscribers/day.

I've been working on ambient music while learning to play guitar again, but I got this MIDI controller so I could keep writing in the mean time. Barely touched on this sort of production before, so it's all new to me.

>>60623401
Getting there slowly. Been just under four months now. Main reason I'm doing this is because it's killing me not being able to make any music. I'm definitely a novice, only advantage I have is coming from recording and what not, I know how to EQ and mix.

>hats are a little dry
Yeah, I was going to go through and add some reverb to any of the higher stuff.

>pattern is not very interesting
Understandable too. A lot of what I'm doing now is learning honestly.

>The pad sounds good, but add some swishes and swooshes
I'm not entirely sure what that means sorry, could you elaborate?

This is another thing I did with someone else awhile back. My only other time doing electronic music really.

>>The pad sounds good, but add some swishes and swooshes
>I'm not entirely sure what that means sorry, could you elaborate?
Noise risers and effects. Basically white/pink/what have you noise through a resonant filter.
>>
>noob question
what would I need a computer interface for, taken I think I'll need a computer just for final recording and sampling.
>if yes is the qxenyx802usb a good place to go?
>does it rock?everybody says it's unleveled as shit and it shakes awfully

About recording - I was thinking of using a deck for it, and maybe just sometimes using the computer by pluging the mixer out in the mic jack of the computer. Is the sound going to be much more awful? What are going to be the differences? Is it going to be flatter?

Oh I think I get you, just to obscure it a little so the shifts aren't as noticeable?

Might take me awhile to get the hang of it. I have a lot of trouble collecting my thoughts nowadays...

Changed a couple things. How does this sound?
https://clyp.it/3pqrxxfw
>same picture posted again
Whoops.
>>
>>60623687
The pad synth sounds wetter, would sound good during some kind of break, but I preferred it drier at the start.
Kick fits better though.
>>
>>60623732
Alrighty, changed the beginning back, but left the end wetter.
https://clyp.it/og3btvbh

Think I might change the hats and toms tomorrow. Want to EQ them a bit too, but it's almost bed time.
>>
>>60623801
Also, work on introducing some variation to the drum pattern, little changes here and there that are not anticipated go a long way in keeping listeners' atention.

That was on my to-do list. Sort of at the stage where the idea of the track is down, now to tidy it up and add things, etc.

I want to do some tracks around it and treat it more like an interlude in the end I guess.

Thanks for the advice and help. I know I'm not writing anything terribly interesting yet, but it really is me stepping back into music again. I couldn't even talk for a bit over a month, so I appreciate it.
