How the fuck do I get into Nirvana?
>>
>>60590530
get high to nevermind and try to decipher the lyrics. thats how it happened for me. still my favorite band to this day.
>>
>>60590530
its fucking braindead hyper-accessible music what the fuck do you mean
>>
you don't. Because grunge is a trashy, gimmicky genre about being a man who's edgy but at the same time is a little bitch. And just whines about his first world problems.
>>
why would you want to?
>>
>>60590530
I don't know, it's not hard. The same way you would get into any other artist's music. Maybe, I don't know, listen to it? Revolutionary concept, I know, but who knows, give it a try, you might like it.
>>
>>60590580
all I hear is some boring guitars with simplistic chord progressions. honestly i find it so boring i'm pretty satisfied not enjoying it. i guess my real question is why is it so highly acclaimed?
>>
>>60590530
shotgun to the brain
>>
By listening to them?

I don't even have a reaction image for this.

thats the point, its boring and simplistic. thats why its so acclaimed, because people are lemmings. nirvana was never good.
>>
>>60590653
Wow, that's really weird. My issue contains all instrumental parts and vocals. Yours really only has the guitar tracks? That's weird. Hey, maybe that's worth something. Who knows, it could be really rare.

you are basically the opposite of /mu/

You don't get to act smug when you have shit opinions, anon.
>>
>>60590730
See, this is why I feel bad about not liking Nirvana. There must be something interesting buried in there. I mean, part of the reason why I'm interested is because I'd been looking into Kurt Cobain's taste in music since I'd heard he was into Os Mutantes, which I like.

>>
If youre over the age of 15 and don't already like them then you won't ever like them
>>
op is a fuckin weirdo
>>
>>60590905
It just weirds me out being in the music community where a lot of people like Nirvana. Feels like the modern-day version of not liking the Beatles.
>>
>>60590848
Alright. Speaking as a fan. No. It's not genius. There isn't much to get. But yes. There are more lyrics than just that. How much they matter is up to the individual listener to decide I suppose. But honestly, to most, they're not going to be what makes or breaks their listening experience with any given artist. Especially where lyrics aren't necessarily the focus. As is the case with Cobain, by his own admission mind you.

>>60590833
Alright. Well you need never feel bad about liking/not liking anything. I wouldn't describe Nirvana's music as interesting. Maybe some of their noisier music when I was first getting into them during my adolescence, but certainly not anymore. It's appealing in an incredibly immediate sense, it's some of the most accessible 'alternative' rock in the genre's history. If not the most, bar-none. Cobain has somewhat underground/punk taste in music, he has a working understanding of the musical landscape of the eighties underground and, at least to some extent, wanted to model his own band's music after that. Pixies were enormously influential on Cobain as I'm sure you're already aware. Where was I going with all this? Shit. I don't know. I just know it's very difficult for their music to elude you for its 'depth' or whatever. Most of the time, people give it too much credit in that department, I will admit.
>>
>>60590530
start with album All of Us first and than listen to the rest of it
>>
>>60590931
Nah not liking the beatles is basically the same as being a reddit atheist, you want to feel better than everyone else. Not liking nirvana is what a mature adult should be doing.
>>
>>60590943
you are wrong they are genius. he doesnt have to think so. they just are.
>>
>>60590530
It's just a thing you listen to when you're too dumb to be an avant teen or too pussy to be a mallgoth.

>nirvana
>grunge

pick one

how is this grunge?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMtDMxGjzzU
>>
>>60590943
True, accessibility might explain why their albums get so much love. I shouldn't equate something being highly rated with it being interesting.
>>
>>60590976
Dude you're digging yourself deeper into a hole, you're sounding like you're posting on tumblr right now.
Just accept that just because you liked something as an emotional teenager doesn't mean it's actually that good or holds up well.
>>
>>60590976
k

This is what I was talking about above by the way. People erroneously perceiving Cobain's lyrics as incredibly deep or something. He was a fucked up guy, his lyrics are a reflection of that. However deep his suffering has been attested to one million times over in countless documentaries like Soaked in Bleach. Which I haven't seen. But Montage of Heck was trash. Cobain wasn't a genius, he was just upset.

>>60590999
Nice trips. Nirvana were a grunge band.

>>60591000
Nice trips. And sure, yeah. That is a possible explanation for the acclaim. By the same token, something can be incredibly interesting and also musically without merit, or lowly rated. Whichever you refer to first when deciding whether or not you like something.

Kurt wrote better pop songs than the Beatles

Dammit.

>>60591178
Never heard this before. It was always pretty apparent how much Cobain wanted Nirvana to develop into a full-fledged noise rock band. They would have been pretty damn good at it too. Kind of a shame.
>>
>>60590530
As a musician the songs are easy to play, but at the same time you have to be a very talented musician to play a song flawlessly countless times. That's what nirvana did. Also if your not a musician the music isn't overly complicated and it has a steady vibe to it that will attract you.
>>
>>60591439
lol come on Kurt played sloppy as fuck and would often mix up the chord shapes just to fuck around, and the solos were often just improvised noise
>>
>>60590530
You don't

>>60591439
Was going to call you for talking out your ass but this guy >>60591484 did my job for me. That said, I find exactly what that guy described very appealing.

Listen to Bleach, read Cobain's journal, then listen to Nevermind, In Utero, and Unplugged in that order. Then get really high and listen to You Know You're Right.
>>
>>60590844
Also don't ever watch this shit it's stupid and detracts from the music
>>
>>60592727
I wouldn't say it detracts from the music so much as it distracts people from the music.
>>
>>60590999
nirvana literally invented grunge, stfu normie.

If I wanted to get someone into Nirvana I'd show them this movie.

If you already decided you don't like them then idk if you'll enjoy it. I don't understand why people trash Kurt for how simple his music is or how bad he is at guitar. Music isn't supposed to be a pissing contest about who can play the most intricate shit. Kurt cared about great melodies and the emotion that a song can bring out of you, which is why I listen to music anyway
>>
>>60593093
Tell this to anyone who likes prog metal and how mmuch they hate the "simple instrumentation" in ITAOTS
>>
>>60593093
I like the band, like the guy, hated this doc. By the way, Kurt wasn't a terrible guitarist. He had chops. He wasn't a virtuoso by any stretch of the imagination, but he was certainly more than competent.
>>
>>60590530
do you enjoy mediocre music? if not, then you get them
