So I was basically thinking of writing personal letters to famous musicians/comedians/heroes in hopes they could help me with my musical career or give valuable advice.
Has anybody tried this option and have they had any success?

That's a shame. Too bad because they are a bunch of weirdos. I'd expect them to at least be a little kinder.
If you start off really young and somehow fluke a good tv dialogue or wrapped up in a obscenity bust it can help give you a weird aura. Like if your grandad was in the IRA or somehitng, it maks you just that bit more spooky
however, the better or older you get that sort of stuff is useful for a bit of friction or heat, but it can also lock you out hard.
it seems to be more and more you have to do it yourself till a company can see it would make money from you. everyone else will hate you.
the worst thing and you'll see it a million times is
helping and helping and helping someone, and then they sabotage you when it's you turn
(I mean that different from joking or dong an edgy routine. liek if I jokingly ran a jihad against you. ...)

well, I alwayys think "do a group show" or "could we play together" or being freidns you know?
but having been trying to do this 7 years, you can even get totally abused for helping people. I know one man and its a pathological thing where he can't say good night with out telling the perosn to fuck off. Everyboidy else "give me your stuff dfor nothing and fuck off" it's so demoralising.

Interesting thread idea, shame it got derailed by fucking weirdos. And I have in fact done this with a couple artists via facebook messaging. Sadly a lot of the artists I used to message shut down their inboxes once they got more followers. Mac Demarco comes to mind

I just wanted to try something unique. Went for a "do what you like, ignore everyone else" type record. It hasn't sold anything but 3 copies to total weirdos. I can always change my sound at the drop of a hat.
