Are you saying this is too low or too high?

Anyway, pitchfork lost any shred of credibility a long time ago...

Pitchfork never had any credibility, but it's funny that even 2 years ago they would have stayed away from reviewing this album.

(And to answer your other question: this album is terrible. Even by pop music standards.)

7.something was the always the standard "we don't want to give a shit score but can't bring ourselves to score it high" pop album score though.

i agree, everyone has turned against alternative music so hard that now its dying.

because of poptimism p4k can put up articles about famous people like drake, get credibility and get the hits for it. i appreciate pop music but it will always have an advantage and us rallying for them just puts money in their pockets and none in any of ours

It's not actually an album, it's a collection of one dimensional singles that she shit out, hoping one catches on. Listen to each song for 20 seconds and you've listened to the whole thing. Hello is fun song to "meme to" with your friends but the rest is dogshit.

oh, hi, Zach Hart! how does it feel writing about a dead art form? have you ever considered that "underground music" isn't limited to shitty college-attending sadboys who want to get laid like they could in the '90s and the reason poptimism has killed your favorite genre is because it's been creatively stagnant for twenty fucking years?

alright Zach well catch you later

Adele is literally the Oasis of the 21st century
>signs to an "indie" label but with corporate backing
>first album gives her big success in UK and lots of critical acclaim
>second album gets generally positive reviews, but huge hit singles help her become absolutely massive around the world
>a few years pass, now the third album is out with insane anticipation and hype surrounding it, selling a record breaking amount of copies in its first week
>people start to realize it's just a bloated continuation of the style that made her famous, but without any of the standout moments that the previous albums had
The press, public, and fans' attitudes will turn sour within 3 months

>>60555667
>us rallying for them just puts money in their pockets and none in any of ours

I agree, this model of music journalism sucks. With Condé Nast buying p4k, how long will it take for them to poptimize 'indie'? Like who wants to bet Arcade Fire will be to p4k as U2 was to the Rolling Stone magazine? Already things like kozelek v. war on drugs are getting coverage analogous to a reality show

why are p4k fans so dense? this has been going on for half a decade or more now. it's just more obvious now. Pitchfork, Stereogum, Noisey - all of these shitty "indie" rags are already homogenized corporate shit. they've just sold it to you as independent music, and now they're being more brazen about it because it's harder to churn out consistently interesting buzzbands for a genre of music that hasn't had a single sonic innovation since the '90s

Arcade Fire already is p4k's U2
Deafheaven is as big as they are because Pitchfork has a writer on staff who's friends with them and Pitchfork has mainstream influence
all of this is designed to sell festival tickets to frat boys
these festivals have gone on since 2008 and before for your beloved "indie."
just because Anthony Flabfanny is suddenly having an identity crisis because his MRA ass is being pressured by the market to listen to albums made by women doesn't mean that his favorite music, from Death Grips to Swans, hasn't always been commercial garbage of a different kind.
you're the Hot Topic kids of the '10s. get over it. shut up. give Conde Nast money.

I'm tired of /mu/ thinking shitty indie rock bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Animal Collective are better than real artists like Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Can, and Miles Davis. I'd rather have poptimism than indie fans under the delusion of patricianhood.

http://pitchfork.com/tv/51-live/1567-protomartyr-how-he-lived-after-he-died-live/

>this is the stupid bullshit p4k wants you to think is "cool" and "happenin" in rock music
>this is the kind of corporate-cock-sucking horseshit p4k readers think of as a "DIY" show

at least they had Deradoorian play, though from the sound of it they had a fuckin awful sound person/no monitors

god fuck pitchfork so hard for trying to cash in on "DIY" like it's some kind of trend or movement.

>>60555985
and there are still smaller online publications popping up and going strong, local show listing sites, etc. There is also occasionally some bleed through from real independent and DIY scenes into noisey (ironically, given how unforgivingly toxic Vice was and continues to be in BK) and stereogum and the like. p4k is totally dead though and it's fucking laughable how badly they sold out.

It's still there, it just doesn't have the same visibility it did a few years ago.

Wow well regarded underground music bastion pitchfork thank you so much for digging through all the obscure and under appreciated talent that goes unnoticed like Kanye West and Adele.
