Man there's something about the rolling stones that I've just never got. Might have to revisit sometime.

First utterance is cool man. Need to finally listen to cocteau twins.

>>60549125
Good rate on that faust album. Was never a Mothers of invention fan, tried listening to them growing up but always, probably wrongly, thought that Zappa was a bit too much like a comedic writer for me (from a few songs/titles I saw) and I guess it's just stuck
>>
>>60549140

Honestly I only do it since coming to mu. It's nice to see what others thought of albums you rated and sometimes you'll find some good recs from threads like this.

Poptimism why?

>>60547121
Always need to check out more Ravi Shankar.

>>60547101
Need to listen to Utsuroi.

>>60547039
Heaven or Las Vegas is vastly overrated compared to the first two Cocteau albums. Comus has only like one or two good tracks, Cluster II is even better if you haven't heard it yet.

>>60546983
Solid ratings give or take half a star, probably need to branch your taste out more.
>>
>>60550136
that's why i gave it a 7. It's still really good and impressive but it drags on and gets dull. If it was trimmed down to half the length, it would get an 8 or something. That is if the highlights were kept.

Might change that Iron and Wine to a 4.5
Something about it was just so whimsical and constructed so well.
Too lazy to edit it down to just a picture of the 5 ratings
>>
>>60550463
Disappointed you rated Janelle and Woody Guthrie below some indie folk records.

On Library of Congress Recordings Guthrie is one of the most likable and interesting storytellers out there. Would highly recommend.
>>
>>60550136
>Poptimism

firstly, nice meme. Secondly, I gave all the pop shit scores
>>
>>60550713
Not trying to meme or insult your taste per se, just curious for what purpose you took it upon yourself to listen to the White Stripes, Iggy Azalea, an Adele album, followed by another Adele album.
>>
>>60550636
I need to listen to ArchAndroid again yeah. The overall tone of the album felt too samey in my opinion. I need to listen on an instrumental level.
The quality of the Woody Guthrie album threw me off, which isn't fair I guess yeah.
>>
>>60551137
And in turn I'll listen to those Mountain Goats and Iron and Wine records. Not a big fan of the "white guy playing a guitar" genre of music past the turn of the millennium, but I might just listen to more of these guys.

not the guy responded to, but that Sundfor album dragged on for so goddamn long and it was only like 55 minutes long. Unbearably boring stuff
>>
>>60550776
I already listened to them beforehand and was bored. White Stripes is good though
>>
>>60551391
BR2TP is probably the corniest album I've ever heard in my life. "Ya Mama" made me want to score it lower than a 4/10 singlehandedly

Drums and Wires and Displine are excellent tho, good taste in everything but rap m8
>>
>>60551373
thx
>>
>>60551434
I feel if you start taking off points for corniness in hip-hop almost everything is gonna drop substantially
>>
>>60551422
And that's a solid reason. Disinclined to agreed with you on the stripes, but I'll have to listen to more of them.

>>60551462
And this guy's got it. If not for cornyness, the Beastie Boys for instance would lose almost all of their appeal.
>>
>>60551422
You are a dumbass, kill yourself. I bet you listened to like three songs off the Adele albums and then rated it, btw.
>>
>>60551500
I listened to 19 way back when, maybe its worse or better than I remember. I love Hometown Glory.

25 Is very mediocre, might rate it even lower actually, it is really bad. Million Years Ago is really nice though.

Okay adele fan
>>
Friendly reminder,
if anyone here rates albums that they've listened to less than, let's say 5 or so times, they do not belong on rym

I hear corniness and I don't like it. I'm not gonna let it stand without marking off for it just because everything made before 1994 crumbles in the rankings.

Corniness makes any song's replayability hit a zero instantaneously. It's not me being a cynic, it's the fact that the genre wasn't worth shit outside of Memphis until Nas showed up
>>
>>60551551
If I rate album lower than 3 stars I won't listen to it more than once
>>
Antarctigo Vespucci - Leavin' La Vida Loca (2.5)
Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted (3)
Comus - First Utterance (4.5)
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs (3.5)
Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright in the End (3)

But I'm able to consciously listen to most if not all of the elements at play on a record, and recognize what context the album was in when it was recorded in my first one or two listens.

Listens after that really don't do anything for me, and very rarely influence the score.

>>60551618
I'm going to assume you're not seriously ignoring the truly real shit produced by Tribe, and Public Enemy, and the stylized masterpieces by the Beastie Boys, Wu Tang, and most of the big NWA solo acts.

Like I said beforehand, hip-hop has been my favorite genre for at least 4 years. There is obviously still respect for the greats but I'm not going to contextualize a personal rating of the sonic value of an artist's music just because others hold them in high regard.

Most ATCQ albums I've rated are scored in the 5.5-7 range. Wu-Tang is anywhere from 5-8, Public Enemy is all 6s so far. Beastie Boys are absolute garbage outside of a few tracks per album though.
>>

There's no contextualizing or regard anywhere, by the quality of the music, the themes, the production techniques they introduced into the pot, this is dope ass music. And I'm sorry you can't get on the energy the Beastie Boys happening beats gave off, I bet you don't even like 80's house. >pic related
