I know it's been a while guys, but I think it's time to bring /trad/ back. Hampus and I have been banned for a while, but now we're back, well I am at least. We're gonna conitnue exploring Southeast Asia. Unfortunately I don't have the normal OP text saved so it'll be lacking the usual resources.

Why does the retarded janitor keep banning Hampus?
>bans the guy who starts a daily interesting thread for thousands of music from all over the globe
>does nothing about all the p4k/Fantano shit, the waifu spam and all the memerap
Why do all the plebs become janitors?
>>60546306
as a Burmafan, how do I into Malaysia?
>>60546360
I have no idea
most likely there is just a janitor who has a grudge against him for some reason.
>>60546439
Retarded.
Anyway, I have never listened to anything from Malaysia
brb Folkways
>>60546360
He probably shitposts without the name from time to time and evades the bans
>>60546408
I'm far from an expert, but from what I can gather there is a really wide array of Malaysian folk, since the country is a melting pot.
there really isn't a single starting point because of this, but Nobat, Mak Yong, and other forms of musical theater are probably the most authentically Malaysian music.
>>60546617
there isn't much on folkways unfortunately :/
>>60546704
Always a good starting point are the SF basics I think.

>only 10 albums
Well thats a bit shitty.
>>60546782
...and only 2 for Malaysia specifically.
>The Temiar people of the central Malaysian rainforest are deeply spiritual. Inspired by their vibrant natural environment, they have developed a musical landscape that evolves from their dreams—dreamsongs. Dreamsongs form the basis for community-wide singing and trance-dancing ceremonies, which celebrate all the important occasions in Temiar society.

>This 1955 Folkways album is a collection of field recordings made by E.D. Robertson and D.H. Noone of the music of the Temiar tribes living in the jungle-covered mountains of Malaysia. The Temiar are a deeply spiritual people whose religion is based on singing and dancing rituals, through which the power of healing, grace, and help are granted.

here's some live recordings of Nobat, the royal music of Malaysia, that I found. Includes a neat little documentary.

>>60546843
shit there is nothing on Malaysian music, I've been searching every single type and all that comes up is just shitty live recordings. There are no actual proper recordings.
>>60546360
i think it's because he kept posting pictures of that one guy, at least that was one reason (no avatars, but even so, it's kind of a stupid reason, it was never the SAME pic, just of the same dude)
gimmie all the azn traditional shit i need to check, i really like gamelan though i haven't put much effort into exploring it further. also why the fuck can't i get my trip to work , i'm trying to make it say something and it will not come out right

The Gamelan Music of Bali

and I'm downloading a Malaysian music comp I found on slsk so that should be done soon hopefully
this will probably the only thread on Malaysian music considering the abysmal amount of recordings.
also vote on what we should do for the next thread:

Cambodia or Laos
Good luck finding more than like 10 albums from either
(pick related is fucking amazing, btw)
>>60549255
>>60551217
On the subject of Thailand and Laos, pic related is pretty good. Sadly I've found it hard to find other molam that isn't either progressive fusion or absolutely insane lo-fi dance pop.
>>60551254
not molam, but this is also a good album from Laos
>>60551254
the blogspot monrakplengthai is a good place to find thai music

>>60551254

looks like we're gonna be going with Thailand.
Cambodia and Laos both have very small amounts of recordings so we might lump those together in a later thread

Not SE Asia related, but can anyone rec me some decent ska/rocksteady? Or traditional Jamaican stuff? Would be appreciated.

Yo I'm not banned (I think, if this post goes through I'm not at least) I've just been busy spending time with my gf since wednesday
I haven't listened to ANY malay music but I'ma see if I can find some stuff mkay
>>60551361
This is literally the world's best blog, I've gotten most of my thai music from there.
>>60554167
these two were the only ones I could find on soulseek.
other than that recordings seem to be sparse

Grabbing these from what.cd
Siti might not be trad, not sure.
>>60546360
>>60546439
>>60546642
It's actually because of "ban evasion".
>>60554209
upload anything good you find
and yeah, Siti isn't trad, it's updated folk songs with synths and guitars and string sections
>>60554227
that's some bs

Will upload the other two soon(ish)
Oxmu article on Malaysia.
>>60546306
Could you post some good Malaysian pop music?
We should get Hi Fi the certified autist in here, he's Malaysian. Don't think he's posted in a year or more tho
>>60554395
cool
>>60554288
Only one of them was trad, but I didn't finish because I had to go to school. I'll upload it when I get home later today (unless I stay here all day jesus fuck I have so much to do)
>>60554227
Do you still have that #janitorgate or whatever image on your computer?
>>60556422
No, I don't have any images from or related to 4chan left.
>>60556668
I'm sure you have some photos of yourself.
>>60557218
Not from 4chaaaan
>>60551176
I'm listening to this now. Seems like it's mostly Malay pop music, with some trad sprinkled in between. Still an interesting listen, you can definitely hear a massive Indian and Arab influence on this.
>>60546306
Why were you banned?
^^^^^^
>>60554190
Reminder that all folkways releases are on spotify
>>60558257
Good reminder, I legitimately keep on forgetting.
Something I had on my computer.

Hello.
I don't have much time at the moment, how are these going now you have them by country/region etc?
>>60558745
Not much better than before, honestly.
>>60558768
Shame, guess it doesn't matter how you do it, there is little interest. The groups we had should have shown us that with all the members and little actual posting.
Gonna try and listen to some ITT later when I get 5.

Based Spotify
>>60560792
Yeah i just came upon this album on spotify. I can't really seem to find any information about, other than what the title says: music from Sarawak, one of the Malaysian states on Borneo. Seems pretty cool so far, quite varied traditional folk music from that area. String instruments, vocal songs, gong ensembles and so on.
>>60561068
sounds good to me
>>60561194
Yeah you should definitely give it a listen
>>60561259
I am :)
>>60561280
godt så
>>60558740
Listening to this now, very cool stuff. I particularly like the reeds and vocals.

Look up Okna Tsahan Zam. His music incorporates Mongloian throat singing, traditional music, as well as traditional folk/electronic fusion. Here is an example of one of his songs.

You're welcome. He has plenty of material too. Most of it on youtube, but some of the video titles are in Cyrillic.
Sooo, Thailand next thread?

Thats cool, I speak Russian anyways.
>>60552059
Also check out some Burmese. It pretty much fits in with any other group of Southern Asian music.
