Are post fade EQ's effected by panning or does it depend on the mixer?

If I understand the question right, I think unless the EQ is some kind of analog emulation with non-linearities based on signal level, it's going to sound the same whether the EQ happens before or after panning or faders

you could loop the first three seconds of rising rhodes and add drums/bass/melody and that could be a section

that rising synth at the start sounds quite shrill
Maybe work on your Mid and high settings with your EQ
Perhaps make the rising synth distinct and have it build up during the intro with low mid and high on it so it's a bit more muffled and less shrill/peircing

also what is this, 1999?

I am trying to make louder tracks
is a full chain compressor a good way to go about it and just up the gain from 0 to 6.0(max) on each stem?
But will that make it loud as I avoid all "red"(clipping) in my master volume throughout the whole track and then adjust individual stem volumes accordingly
I use ableton
>>

>>
>>60542096
In the interests of neatness I'd say don't go adding gain to every single track like an absolute madman, keep them all either at or below 0db (unless you have a particularly quiet track)

Then put a compressor on the master bus, and either turn up the compression amount OR, lower the threshold and increase the make-up gain, depending on your compressor

FL is straightforward, and as such there are a lot of tutorials for it. Problem is, people don't like reading manuals.
>>
>>60544417
so you're talking about an actual delay effect and not just a gap in the loop samples?

same question about being unintuitive applies even more if that's the case.
>>

>FL is straightforward, and as such there are a lot of tutorials for it. Problem is, people don't like reading manuals.
So is it just FL owners that don't use the manuals or does everyone here use FL? I never hear anyone asking weird questions specific to any other DAWs like pro tools, Logic or Cubase...I guess hardly anyone uses those though

not midi tracks, but audio tracks you can speed up/slow down

that's not how you would get your drums in sync though if that's what you're thinking

I mainly use it specifically for reasons like that. Like if I'm working with an accapella track, and want to remove reverb. Or if I only want the reverb of a track.

I'll sometimes use it to remove the sides of some bass patches, if I want to make sure the bass remains in the center.

I'll also use it on my master to give the sides a slight boost in the 15k range. This will sometimes augment the stereo field

61-key will be great for simple midi shenanigans. But if you plan on learning piano as an instrument and not just a controller, then wait and just save up for an 88-key. You'll be doing yourself a service, trust me.

No point in ever using a 32-bit DAW, most 64-bit DAWs support 32-bit VSTs and for the ones that don't you can simply bridge the VST.

Anyone know how to program synths to act as if they were pianos, as in when i stop holding down the note, the sound immediately stops, but when i hold the note down it rings longer, but still ends at some point?

When i hold down the notes the note usually sounds until i let go and doesn't decay at all over time. With sustain i can only tell it at what volume the notes should be sustained when i hold down the keys, and with decay it only applies after i let go of the keys, not while i still hold them.

I'm sorry if this is hard to understand. Basically i don't want synths to sustain the note forever when i hold down the key, i want them to decay slowly like on a piano

more sidechain is a good start, but the whole thing just sounds a little flat to me, like there's too much compression. the song itself is pretty cool, i could see it bumping in the car at night
>>60559857
listened to creek, i really like the song itself and the blend of instruments. the low-fi sound kind of adds to it IMO, but i think some elements should shine more clearly through the mix, like triangles/bells/voices
>>
Sorry to ask fuckboy questions but while trying to learn maschine and fl, I encountered a silly problem.

I could drag some samples from the FL library to the Maschine vst, and it'd be fine. However some sameples had a ! to the left of it, and made no sound.

Is there a reason for this? I didn't see it in the getting started manual.
>>
>>60562230
it might be the file extension, maybe it is not supported by the maschine vst? or too long? or file size is too big? just a hunch, no experience with maschine

I NEED /MU/'S GENERAL CONSENSUS

WHAT IS THE BEST MIDI CONTROLLER IN:

>25 KEYS

>49 KEYS

>61 KEYS

AND WHY?
>>
Everytime i load something into Live's sampler it is out of tune. For example when i hit a G on the controller it's somewhere between an G# and A.
How do i pitch correct shit in the simpler? When i click on pitch literally nothing happens
>>
>>60563218
>25 keys
useless
>49 keys
CME M-Key
>61 keys
M-Audio Keystation 61 MkII

>Why
Because they're just the best pure midi controllers without any extra cancer on them you can get.
>>
>>60563218
/mu/ general consensus for midi controllers has already been established.

ALL MIDI KEYBOARD CONTROLLERS ON THE MARKET ARE LITERAL CHEAP SHIT MADE IN CHINA.

you'd be better off buying a used rompler synth from the 90s for the same exact price. Benefits: better keybeds, almost all of them have after touch, and you also get a pretty good bank of sounds to use.
>>
>>60563899
change the root note to match that of the sample

I think by default, it makes the root note C. If you sample is actually a G note, change the root note to G, then all other keys should be correct.
>>
>>60564007
>ALL MIDI KEYBOARD CONTROLLERS ON THE MARKET ARE LITERAL CHEAP SHIT MADE IN CHINA.
...or spend more than $89 on something decent, that doesn't have every function under the sun and that will last.
N.I Kontrol for example

Anyone else here use Massive? I'm having trouble figuring out the envelope system. So you can put multiple envelopes in, say, a filter. My question is does that mean the envelopes go one after the other or simultaneously? Or within the previous envelopes parameters? I'm looking through the manual but it's not very clear desu
>>
>>60565260
not really but the Native Instruments Kontrol keyboard would be good quality, you could probably get something of similar quality without all the lights for a bit cheaper though, although if your interested in the bundled plugins then It'd be well worth buying the Kontrol. I have the Maschine studio and its really well built, and the Komplete select bundle that comes with them both is worth the price of the controller IF its something you'd use
>>
are there any videos on the equipment you'd need to setup an analog synth? id like to start getting into synths but i don't know what i need between audio interfaces to cords and speakers. i pretty much know nothing about production but id like to learn.

https://clyp.it/30q42oja

>>60565653
You'll want to get an Audio Interface and also a Midi interface.

For each synth, you'll want one set of Midi in/out (midi interface), and one 1/4" instrument input (audio interface).
(2 midi cables, one instrument cable)

Keep in mind that you may want to get more synths down the road, so maybe get a Midi interface with 4 in/outs. As for Audio interface, it can get pretty pricey with more inputs. You may want to stick with a 2 input audio interface for now to keep it cheap.
>>
>>60565996
>You'll want to get an Audio Interface and also a Midi interface.
he should probably just get an audio interface with midi in/out to start
>>
>>60565996
so with the more gear i get, the more inputs ill want? makes sense.
>>
>>60566106
yeah, ideally.

>>60566056
Very true. however from my experience, dedicated midi interfaces have much lower latency than audio interfaces with midi. plus they aren't that expensive in the first place.

Yeah it's got some cool stuff to mess around with, but blaze did so much layering and EQ'ing that a lot of the samples aren't really recognizeable.

Probs gonna drop a clyp.it using the drum kit when I build a decent beat with it. Also the kit is free so you're not losing anything by downloading and fucking with it.
>>
>>60561655
it sounds like your using a synth with only attack sustain and decay knobs, with the decay knob acting as both decay and release. Either way, you should look at presets on any of your favorite synths and find piano presets, and study the different amp/volume envelopes

I think it's a good idea to write pop songs with a simple song structure, unless you have an idea with what you want to do. If you're interested in sound design, heres a video that's recced here a lot,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atvtBE6t48M
it's really great and it does what it says on the title, it teaches the building blocks of sound and synthesis, you can watch the entire series if you want, it's interesting stuff, and after you get the stuff in the first video, you can pretty much just go all out taking bits of sound from what you want, be it synthesizers or audio samples, like maybe theres a sound you hear in a song you like and you like the tone, sample that sound, throw it in a sampler , loop it, or keep it plucky if you want by using an envelope, go crazy, you'll do fine since you already know a good amount of music theory, all you need to do know is learn your DAW and how your processors work (stuff like reverb, delay, chorus, compressors, eq, phasers...) learn the fundamentals of these types of things, and synths, and you will be pretty much able to pick up any vst and start using it right away while actually knowing what you're doing, and how you're affecting stuff.
>>
>>60574298
>>60575703
>I think it's a good idea to write pop songs with a simple song structure
or don't , halfway through that post I forgot why I recommended it to you, I don't know what genres you're into, or what kind of music you like, and I'm sure you're already aware that most popular music nowadays is just simple stuff.

Hey guys i am a total newb and i made this, i know is shit, but how do i make it sound good, i dont know much about producing, give me general advice, like do this to the guitar, this to the bass etc..
I know some basic stuff, i tried to mix this song but doesn't sound good, i used saturation and compression, tried to adjust the frequencies desu i was just messing around help mee!

Don't give me advice on the music i know is sloppy, cringey and shit, just about mixing pls rspnd

https://clyp.it/14kf1zvy
>>
>>60578350
the shakers are maybe too loud and they're really static, and the bass synth is bad, the piano chord progression is ok, but the little melodies are pretty cheesy, I think you can whip this into something nice, but the sounds you're using as of now sound bad imo

>>60578457
well good sounding music starts from the actual music doesn't it, you can do all the polishing on a turd you want, but it's still a turd, and about your music, I think the drums are too weak or low in the mix, I think the synth you have going on is pretty boring, and everything is pretty dry, add some light reverb or delay to take care of that.

My general advice would be to take a song you like and import it into your DAW, and say you like how the kick sounds, throw a spectrum analyzer on the song you imported and study the kick to see what frequencies it lies at, then try to edit and effect a kick until you got something similar to the kick you liked. You might also like to pay attention to where the piano, voice, drums and bassline sit in the frequency range, if you pay attention you should be able to figure out where they're at, and that should give you an idea of how to mix and layer your different sounds.
