Both Tortoise CDs are Brazilian issues from 2001. TNT comes with a rare bonus track, Madison Avenue, only present on Tour 1998 7".

I'm also expecting two Mogwai CDs (MYT and CODY) and a Megasus LP in the mail.

I'm considering buying The Mollusk LP and This Heat s/t, the sellers claim they're original pressings, and they're not as expensive too ($50 and $24, respectivelly) in EX conditions.

Some cds and cassettes from discogs. Except for The Who- Live at leeds 2 cd set which was 50 cents at the local goodwill. The Pye Corner Audio – Black Mill Tapes Volumes 1-4 3 cd set was purchased new, the rest were used.
>>
>>60524505
Not OP, but Amazon often has really good deals if you look under used and new. I try to find stuff that's under the "very good" tab, as it is new or barely used and a few bucks cheaper. Discogs if I trust the user. Bought Black Dice's Beaches and Canyons for like $9 or 10 dollars but they put took the vinyl on the outside of the album cover in the box so when I took a scissor to cut the tape on the box, I cut the album sleeve and some of the vinyl. Luckily it still sounds find baka. I'm also to have good record stores where I live

Local indie record shop (if they ever fucking find new premises), local second hand store, HMV (30% staff discount lol) and discogs

These arrived yesterday from Discogs and eBay. It was the first time I'd been on eBay in years, it was my last resort after discovering Dirk Gently is out of press, not for sale on Discogs and £70 minumum from Amazon for the pair.

Are radioplays /mu/? I can't think what other board would take them. The Harry Enfield Dirk Gentlys have been my favourites since I heard them shortly after they came out and I finally got around to replacing my pirated copy. Highly recommended to any Douglas Adams fans.

>>
>>60528068

Never listened to this one, but I found out about Lift your fists over the summer and I'm trying to find more stuff like that.

What is a locke groove?
Also, how bad could I fuck up my table if I open it and go straight to playing? I know not to drop the needle or the table itself, I should be good, right?
>>
>>60528136

>Never listened to this one, but I found out about Lift your fists over the summer and I'm trying to find more stuff like that.

F# is gr8. Both vinyl and CD versions are different in package and songs (CD is 30 minutes longer and different movements order), but the vinyl version is essential. At the end of side B there is an endless drone loop.

> Also, how bad could I fuck up my table if I open it and go straight to playing? I know not to drop the needle or the table itself, I should be good, right?

Not sure about U-Turn, but AT-LP120 is almost literally plug and play (just attach the headshell to the tonearm). Just don't fuck up.

what do you get out of purchasing these objects? (aside from being able to post in these threads)

if you can download digital files of everything in this thread for free ("samples"), why are you wasting your money on physical manifestations of the same?

hey - if you have the cash to burn, who'm I to judge?

but I am actually interested in non-sarcastic responses. as a behavior it's pretty counter-intuitive...
>>
>>60531058

I like music. I like it so much, I want to have it in a tangible form. So I buy CDs, vinyl, cassettes, whatever. Aside from the disc and tape containing music, the package makes up a part of the experience, even if it's just a little. Having it as a digital form in my HDD is not really the same.

Maybe when I'm older, I can show my kids/nephews my collection of music. They may not even be interested, but it warms my heart nonetheless.

Same thing with books, even movies in VHS, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray.

for me it has something to do with the need to actually CHOOSE from the thousands of albums I've downloaded, which one gets to occupy not just space on a hard drive, but space on a shelf?

the financial cost ups the ante and forces me to think harder about which albums deserve it: what music means the most to me?

weirdly, purchasing an album changes my relationship to it in unexpected ways. you'd think it'd be identical experiences, just served up in different formats - but not for me.

how many times have I made a purchase, brought it home, and as I was listening to it like it's the first time it dawns on me - "wow, this is not for me"?

I might've heard it a dozen times before and liked it and still be shocked by how little I connect with it once I get it in a physical medium. I might regret the purchase in one sense, but at least it's a conclusive result.

Some of us like getting away from the computer and other such devices for a while. Our lives are dominated by screens/computers, and listening to music without having to look at screen, swipe at a screen, or operate a mouse is a welcome vacation.

Then there's the whole supporting the artists thing. Why does anyone think they're "entitled" to own someone else's work for free? Yeah, piracy has its place sometimes, especially when CD prices were at stupid premiums (18.99 in '00 money), so "sticking it to the man," was somewhat justified, but piracy taken to its logical conclusion would put the artists you like out of work, meaning they would have to get a real job and couldn't devote the time and energy to their music. Buying an artist's record is a symbiotic relationship. Pirating is parasitic, any way you look at it. I don't speak with judgment, since I've done it to a degree, but let's not lie to ourselves about the very real harm it can to do with the various creative industries. Yeah, we know the record companies are assholes, but sticking to them still sticks it to the artists.

Supporting local record stores. They're fun places to visit, hangout, dig for music, and talk to other people. Who would want their record store replaced by a 99 cent store or a Starbucks?
