An artist's first two albums can never be good. One the first album you use up every clever idea for every song you can think of, and it becomes bloated and over saturated with ideas that go nowhere. The second album forces you to start over, and come up with new ideas in a much shorter time frame. The album will sound rushed, unpolished and is an essential transition to teach the artist how to write songs.
The third and on will be infinitely better albums because of the skills gained from failing on their first two
Less contrarian - Emo music brought plenty of good bands like MCR and the used and for the most part people just dismiss them because of their association with "emo"
More contrarian - Music for the large majority is just luck based, 95% of bands don't get famous or big because of their talent, it's because they were in the right place at the right time and could be any band.
Good music for virtually everyone but the top music connoisseurs is based on what they associate it with, the memories they make with the music, nothing to do with the music itself.
That's why most musicians have rise and falls, they never stay consistent for their entire career, because they don't have some magical talent normal people don't have and sooner or late we notice this. Also another reason why it's good for them to die young, they never give us enough time to figure out how mediocre they really are.

Wu-Tang is a very gimmicky group whose edge only comes from RZA's production. It being canonized as something that towers above all else in the genre is strange when the lyrics provided by (all but three of) the members are average.
