Well with the oculus rift, that's probably where things will be heading. There'll be rooms, like Facebook rooms where you can hang out with people, but they monitor what you say and think probably. It's known as the singularity, and we're getting closer and closer to it.

It probably won't happen for 50 years though.

Oh that's just the beginning.
Remember Ghost in the Shell, that movie/manga transhumanists always attempt to use as a way to legitimize their fantasies?
In this universe it's not uncommon for hackers to brainwash random citizens and implant false memories and mind-triggers into them. It's also legal for police to brainwash you if you're a criminal.

Want another dose of nightmares?

There's that cyberpunk movie where people get weird compulsions and diseases and you eventually understand that it's because an advertisement company is releasing a virus that makes people addicted to specific products, eventually it even gives them tourette's syndrome and they keep repeating slogans against their will.

I like post-rock but I don't like Soundtracks for the Blind, though I respect it.

I hate music that just sounds like noise/static/filler, or divulges into it eventually after starting good. For this reason Lift Your Skinny Fists is like a 5/10 in my mind.

I hate it when it takes a long time for a song to establish it's central theme. I often skip 1/3 into a song if the start sounds like shitty 2deep4u filler bullshit.

An artist's first two albums can never be good. One the first album you use up every clever idea for every song you can think of, and it becomes bloated and over saturated with ideas that go nowhere. The second album forces you to start over, and come up with new ideas in a much shorter time frame. The album will sound rushed, unpolished and is an essential transition to teach the artist how to write songs.
The third and on will be infinitely better albums because of the skills gained from failing on their first two
>>
Less contrarian - Emo music brought plenty of good bands like MCR and the used and for the most part people just dismiss them because of their association with "emo"

More contrarian - Music for the large majority is just luck based, 95% of bands don't get famous or big because of their talent, it's because they were in the right place at the right time and could be any band.

Good music for virtually everyone but the top music connoisseurs is based on what they associate it with, the memories they make with the music, nothing to do with the music itself.

That's why most musicians have rise and falls, they never stay consistent for their entire career, because they don't have some magical talent normal people don't have and sooner or late we notice this. Also another reason why it's good for them to die young, they never give us enough time to figure out how mediocre they really are.

Also, ODB is extremley overrated and as a group, is my least favorite member, and as for solo stuff still one of the worst.

You're acting like I'm saying I don't go on the internet.
>>
>>60488500
of course a simple pleb like you would not understand real music like kind of blue, a love supreme, giant steps, bitches brew, ect. i listen to real music while you listen to pleb music.
>>
You have to be mentally ill or autistic to make good music
>>
>>60489034

the tone of disgust you're taking toward it is about the same as saying that

if you're just SOOOO disappointed by it and feel like you can get the same experience with other media, then why aren't you faggot?
>>
>>60488996
The vocals were a big part of it, because they were nearly the same in every song and Van Morrison almost never stops singing. After a while they just get irritating. But also the songs (as I remember) were suuuper repetitive, and for the most part not very interesting.
>>
>>60489054

yes you have to be abnormal to think outside the box and present new ideas

the rise of autists is a sign of humanity's ascension

normies provide for their basic needs while they make use of their overclocked brains

t.normie
>>
>>60489060
you lost me. we're getting off topic anyways. im sure you're a decent person, and we're both probably addicted to the internet so what's it matter in the end?
>>
>>60488230
Congrats on showing your ignorance autist
>>
Cruising is the only good zappa album
>>

We're not friends, we don't need to resolve this peacefully and shake hands on 4chan. Just stop posting.
>>
pink Floyd is my favorite band. and this album is ok
>>
New Order > Joy Division

Not sure if this opinion is more contrarian or pleb.
>>
>>60488349
OutKast had two better albums in the 90's
>>
there has never been a truly great artist that didn't sell at least SOME records

also you people have zero testosterone if you listen to fuckboy shit like Ariel Pink,if you identify or feel the music coming from some middle aged boy george weirdo that was raised in Beverly Hills you're fooling yourself
>>
>>60489126
No it's the patrician opinion

Joy Division is overrated as fuck.

what's it like being as insecure as a twine bridge
>>

Jesus ur salty and just enforcing my opinion that the internet just makes people detached and miserable. I hope you figure things out in your life, anon.
>>
>>60489147
Really? With New Order being more synthpop than post-punk, I'd imagine it'd be the more pleb opinion. Interesting.

Any argument for music sounding good that begins with the need for being under the influence of a perception altering drug is discardable autist
>>
>>60487880
Mac Demarco is an amazing artist. Yeah the quirky attitude and style is annoying but the only reason /mu/ "hates" him is because they think he's tumblr-core.

"salad days" is going to be regarded as one of the best albums of the '10s, mark my words
>>
>>60489142
>there has never been a truly great artist that didn't sell at least SOME records

How would you know?

>>
>>60489176
ive listened to all the music
>>
>>60488349
not really. its not even the best 90s east coast. 36 chambers, the infamous, etc are far superior
>>
>>60488569
Dude most people would agree that Sgt. Peppers is better, and I agree Abbey Road isn't that great
>>
>>60489175

he's tumblrcore. he knows his audience and caters to them. that doesn't mean his music isn't good. let's just face facts, though.
>>
>>60488238
I laughed to the point of actually laughing.
>>
>>60488002
That's pretty inconsiderate, you don't live on some shithole island with no entertainment or communication with the rest of the world. The internet's also made it far easier for artists who don't live in LA or new york to have a shot.
>>
>>60489175
>amazing
>one of the best albums of the '10s

dude, no. I think the hate for him on /mu/ is overblown but his music is just disposable trendy stuff. in another 5 years people will think of him like we think of Wavves now

I'm glad they didn't finish this, I think the "what could have been" factor is what makes it seem so great and it would just be another mediocre album if it was actually finished.
>>
>>60489178
lol @ u trying to have the upper hand. Keep going, please
>>
>>60488924
that's timbre dude
which is a different thing from influence, importance and technical/improv skill
>>
>>60488928
If a song starts with "WEEEEOOOOO WEEEOOOEOEOEO chrzzzzzRRRRR" for 3 minutes in an effort to be super deep and take up as much time with as little work as possible, I skip it.
>>
Astral Weeks is bad.
>>
The Beatles make catchy little psychedelic tunes and that's about it, they aren't anywhere near the level of complexity, scope or creativity of hundreds of other bands. They aren't bad by any means, in fact they are quite good at what they do but what they do isn't all that interesting.

I love modern hip-hop but 90's gangster rap all sounds the exact fucking same, Illmatic is shit, although I do love 36 chambers.
>>
>>60488115
i don't like edginess because it implies the person is trying to be cool, which makes it cringey
>>
>>60488115
So much this. The funny thing is I bet a whole ton of those people who call anything slightly provocative edgy, have absolutely no problem hopping on the early Swans bandwagon when the WHOLE reason they were so good is because thier music was intensely confrontational, AKA EDGY
>>
>>60489230
fucking murder yourself
>>
>>60488257
it's usually got melodies and rhythms. what's the problem?
>>

Kinda disagree on the vaporwave... there's good stuff there

I like her voice though
>>
>>60489173
I could agree with that. Although, very intelligent people have done acid and there's significant proof that it can advance your overall mental state. I think doing mdma and arguing that "oh the music is much better" is stupid. Although weed, lsd, and shrooms can make you perceive or pick up on parts of the music that your sober brain wouldn't. Although I've never witnessed any crazy music awakenings while high, I certainly can appreciate certain music in ways I haven't while high
>>
Bizarre ride II the pharcyde is the best hip hop album to come out of the 90's

Midnight marauders is the best tribe album with beats rhymes and life as a close second and the low end theory a close third

you know edgy is and of itself means nothing bad right? when something is called 'edgy' in a negative sense, the word is being used ironically because the subject is being provocative only on a vapid surface level

case in point, this image
>>
>>60488289
Animal Collective is some of the worst music I've ever heard and I even like weird stuff.
>>
I don't understand the love for St. Vincent and David Byrne. Their wackiness feels extremely forced.

And do people really like Sky Ferreria and Chelsea Wolfe for anything other than masturbation fuel?
>>
>>60489314
*in and of itself

St Vincent is one of the greatest lyricist ever.

Some of the weirder bands I like: really digging Xiu Xiu a lot lately been going through their discography, Former Ghosts, Pharmakon, Sunn O))), Swans, Death Grips, black and death metal, Daniel Johnston, Deerhoof and Boris.

yeah, but he was implying that midi files have a timbre that sounds bad
which has nothing to do with the contextual thingies they were talking about
>>
>>60489119
woah there, that's a little TOO contrarian. tone it down a little.
>>
>>60489350
True, I always say fuck off to those who come at me with the whole "you gotta do mdma at a festival to enjoy edm". I did and the music still was shit
>>
All rap is memerap.
>>
>>60488929
I truly feel sorry for you buddy. It's the only pop album I can honestly rank alongside canonical masterpieces of art. It transcends music. To me anyway. Pet sounds is good but astral weeks is better.

>>

David Byrne is a legit weirdo, though. Annie is definitely trying too hard to have her image, though - for example, lying about having no formal musical training.
>>
>>60488115
>edgy is a catch all term to describe someone who is trying to sound cool by hating on things that people like

>try again.
>>
>>60489483
I was trying to imply that midi, with no performer involved, lacks all those contextual aspects, skill in particular, and that if >>60488814 truly thinks that "influence, importance, technical/improv skill etc." is in any way separate from "the music itself", then midi files should be perfectly sufficient for them.

Wu-Tang is a very gimmicky group whose edge only comes from RZA's production. It being canonized as something that towers above all else in the genre is strange when the lyrics provided by (all but three of) the members are average.
