The new David Bowie album is available for pre order and they released the cover art, pic related

You gonna get it? I don't like the cover art much myself
>>
I love the album art, and am hype as fuck. Gonna get the special edition clear LP.

Also press shots confirm this to be Low 2.
>>
Better than most of his recent covers. Obviously that's not saying much.

Hyped as fuck, though.
>>
>>60478371
>Also press shots confirm this to be Low 2.
Is this based on:

>an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk.
or
>the full title track is said to contain "Gregorian chants, a soul section, various electronic beats and bleeps and Bowie's distinctive vocals." The source describes the record as "completely bonkers."

or something else?
>>
The cover doesn't seem very bowielike
I'm hyped af though

he's too ashamed of his own aging face to put it on the cover of his albums now
>>

weird, he still looks pretty good
>>

Looks like the old woman from Harry Potter. Sorry if you see this, Bowie-sama. I know you probably shitpost here.

Sounds like Scott Walker
>>
>>60477942
i'd like the cover art if it was just a big star painted in red
>>
>>60480051
bowie has spent his whole career trying to keep up with scott walker, don't see why everyone's just pointing that out now
>>
The album art is pretty cool, but... Why would you listen to an artist that hasn't made anything remarkably good in the past years? Better listen to something else instead.
>>
>>60480141
the next day was good and he hadn't made anything for what, a decade before that? i don't get your logic
>>
>>60480103
>Walker was most popular in the late '60s + a cult-ish following in the past twenty years
>Bowie was most popular in the '70s
>only a handful of songs comparable to revival-Walter
?
>>
Apparently this song is on the album too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaygoLgAe4Y
>>
>>60480197
How good was it actually though? Was it just a bunch of good melodies and done? Or was there something special about that album? Because if the answer is no to the last question, why not listen to something else instead that is more likely to be remarkable than that?
>>
>>60480430
what are you trying to say? Good songwriting and instrumentation doesn't make a good album?
>>
>>60480572
Sure it does, but we live on a world where there are tons of albums with good songwriting and instrumentation, but with the difference being that some of those actually manage to bring something new and interesting. So, why waste time with an album that, while it might have good songwriting, you could be listening to an album with good songwriting AND some new and interesting ideas?
>>
>>60480572
I think he's trying to say that if one of the greatest artist of the 20th and 21st century releases an album and it's good we shouldn't listen to it for some reason.
Idk I've filtered the faggot tbqh
>>
>>60480690
Why would you listen to an artist that is past his prime when you could listen to artists that are already at their prime?
Also, filtering is boring.
>>
>>60480665
>some new and interesting ideas
yeah bowie tried that a couple times after the 80s, it didn't really work out too well for him
>>
>>60480813
But now it's the 10s, which is even less likely for him to bring new ideas, and even less likely for those ideas to work.
Why listen to him when you can listen to other artists instead?
>>
That's some pretty bad cover art. Minimalism is good but this looks unbalanced, bland and the letters made out of star segments just aren't recognizable.
>>
new song and music video being premiered on sky tv tonight apparently. sounds shite from the previews but whatever floats your boat.
>>
>>60480842
Because I enjoy listening to David Bowie's music? I like prog and experimental music too but I think Bowie is a skilled songwriter and a talented instrumentalist and I enjoy his music
>>
>>60480347

I hope Tis a pity is on the album. Loved that song.
>>
>>60480940
I heard rumors that a version of that one will be on the album too
>>
>>60480732
Because you want to see if his new album is good? I know you elitists need to see artistic merit in everything, but you can enjoy an artist's work without it being their best or the best in recent times. Fucking annoying bastard.
>>
>>60479179
but not like androgynous god he used to be
>>
>>60481043

>>
>>60481028
I'm not being elitist about it. It's just that time could be better spent be giving new opportunities to non-famous musicians.
No need to call me an annoying bastard.

>>
>>60481086
Why do you think people listen to albums by more famous artists? Becausd they're famous. More people will go "Oh, Bowie released a new album. I remember Scary Monsters being good, so I'll give this one a try." than "Oh, Analfuckcunt released a new Israelian Death-Funk album.", but the same guy could still listen to David Bowie's new album and something more unknown. It's not like there has to be some sort of ultimatum between the two.

Bowie is no stranger to paying homage to music which he likes. He obviously loves music and just breathes whatever he's into. I can dig it because a lot of my favourite music evolved from more obscure roots. Eg Led Zeppelin is basically plagiarism but whatever man.

It may even be a commentary on idol worship of an old man, or perhaps about being too hung up on the past (old Bowie music) to see the present (new music). Not to say it's a good or bad thing, but just an observation shared by Bowie.

Sure Never Let Me Down is a great record, really unfairly criticized at the time even though it was classic Bowie to be edgy and poetic.

Those Tonight singles are classics too, really amazing songs. I also like the Neighborhood Threat cover. Really for me that album worked good on side-B of the c90 cassette with Let's Dance on side-A. Back in the days when you'd carefully tape your new records and put them back in the sleeve and keep them pristine. :)

He's been doing that all his life, although he's getting on. This lyric is interesting:

>Something happened on the day he died
>Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
>Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
>(I’m a blackstar, I’m a star star, I’m a blackstar)

Is this his call? Where's his successor? There will never be another Bowie.

I'm sorry about your horrible taste
>>

no

but tbf i think the vast majority of bowie is basically trash.

low, heroes, and hunky dory, ziggy, and station to station, aladdin sane, are really the only good ones. which is obviously a hell of a run.

WHAT A FANTASTIC DEATH ABYSS

tell the others?
>>
>>60481225
Bowies most experimental period was objectively the 90's

he went from new jack swing, to industrial, to drum n bass, to shoegaze and refused to fucking calm down with his style changes

it was bowie in overdrive

There are so many albums with bad songwriting on them. There are so many popular albums with bad songwriting too. In fact, good songwriting IS the "something new and interesting" that you're talking about.
