What does /mu/ think of the drumming on this record?
BONK
I kind of like it to be honest.
Probably good but I haven't heard it.
TONK TONK TONK
It sounds like trash cans were used as drums.
By far the worst part of this already fucking awful album.

Lars' drumming on every Metallica record has been pretty lack-luster. I'd love to hear all their albums redone with a drummer who is actually competent. The album as a whole is pretty rocking, though the drumming solely by itself is just as bad as it has been from about Load onward.
I do like the trash can sounding drums on this record. If the songs weren't so goddamn long it could be a decent listen, however I always get bored when I try to listen to the whole thing. The "anger" on this album is clearly present and it feels like a mad jam session. I still don't think it's their worst album.
It worked thematically. It got across the force behind the drums and was used differently than it usually would be. The actual drumming itself was nothing special though.
