Audio recording still sucks in FL. Your only really good way of doing it is with Edison. You can try to record it in the playlist, but you don't get a waveform as you're recording so it's kind of balls.
Also I think you can pretty much multitrack only into the playlist

Actually a decent producer is better than a someone who just plays an instrument. I've learnt to play guitars and keyboards, and I can do the basics on drums. But I have more understanding on sound design, EQing, compression and mixing down than the average guitarist would. I'm still learning as well, and try to learn a new skill each week

In Ableton you could just slap all of those samples in the session mode and just trigger them as you go to decide what's worth keeping and what's worth deleting.
I don't know what programs you're working with honestly, but I'm sure FL has some sort of sampler thing, I know Bitwig definitely does. Worst case scenario you can just load them up in audacity or windows media player(kek)

Yeah you're right actually, you can do it in the file explorer with the little wav thing at the bottom. I suggested throwing it in session view, because I use the APC 40 and can just trigger the clips off that and then start at the huge wav form thing at the bottom.

FL plays samples when you click them in the file open dialogue too, but then you can't move or delete them until they finish. So if you've got a 10 second crash cymbal and you see half a second in that it blows, you need to wait 9.5 seconds before you can delete it.
Sure, you can work something out with Foobar or such, but generally it'll always take several clicks/keystrokes to play files and several to delete or move them.

What's the base minimum required to record guitar that doesn't sound shit? I want to get a multitrack recorder, but can't afford one now. I only have a real tone cable and a medium-tier USB mic, and obviously guitar and an amp. Should I just do everything with VST plugins?

You take a sound from something, anything. For example the opening piano rythym you like on a record. You load that into your DAW or whatever you use. Then you cut it down, chop it up, manipulate it, add to it, take away from it but most importantly make it nothing like the original and don't use it the way it's used in the original piece. It's help to not let your whole new song just be the sample, add as much of your own to it as you can. The sample should just be for giving you ideas.
What I like to do is to slice my shit to a new midi track and then mess around with triggering different parts of it on my launchpad. Or I'll do something like I did with the acapella of >>60477528

Compression sets a limit to the volume in db, while still maintaining "percieved volume".
You can increase the "percieved volume" without going past the volume limit, so you can make the sound seem louder without actually being louder in db.
This seems like magic, but you have to be careful, because if you overdo it, it will shit up the quality of the sound, kinda like static.
You can also set a limit on the volume of one track when another track plays, so one track lowers in volume when another one plays. This is called sidechaining.
With sidechaining you can reduce the volume of the lead when the kick hits, for example, opening room for the kick and making it hit 'harder'

Audio finder has been a really good purchase for me. It can search and find duplicate audio files so you can delete multiple files, has a decent waveform/audio editor, you can easily tag all your samples it's really handy.

Literally me a few years ago.
It took me years to finally finish a song, and god damn was it bad. I spent maybe 3 hours on it and it was literally 2 8 second midi clips looped with a really shitty kick drum. 1 year later, I'm finishing a song a week, and also just "finished" my magnum fucking opus. The only way to start having fun producing and making music is you have to spend tons of time learning and accepting how bad you are. Sup guys I was wondering if someone could tell me how fucked I am.
I spent $50 on an M Audio Axiom 49 midi controller at a thrift store. It was in the original box and couldn't help but take the chance. I tried using it on my macbook and the keyboard powers up via the usb, however the computer doesn't recognize the keyboard at all it seems. I even tested the midi signal if it was sending any information to the computer and got nothing. The keyboard itself lights up and is reponsive to all the keys, pads, faders and knobs on its own little screen. I'm running Mavericks 10.9 so I'm hoping it's incompatibility issues and not hardware. U guys got any clue?
