Good metalcore exists. People just associate metalcore with shit like Asking Alexandria.
Bands like Converge, Earth Crisis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me, and Every Time I Die are often considered GOAT in metal but they are, in fact, metalcore. They have heavy influences from hardcore.
This is ultimately what metalcore is. A mix of extreme metal and hardcore punk. It is, by nature, a subgenre of hardcore. However, some bands (like the ones above) are more metal than punk.
Shit like Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, Memphis May Fire, etc. carries heavy pop appeal with choruses sung by singers who are a synth lead away from being pop singers whilst encompassing br00tal screams to allow the fangirls to feel badass. And that's okay, we all need to feel badass. You could still attack the music, but realize why it's there. Plus, some of the music out of this sect is good (Sempiternal by BMTH is pretty good, and I'm a die hard metalhead).
Bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Norma Jean/The Chariot, and Parkway Drive are more mainstream metalcore bands. Basically, if there's a breakdown where a guitar solo should be, you're listening to one of these bands. They range from terrible to pretty good (Constellations by ABR is a great album, as is Killing With a Smile by PWD).
Then you have bands like The Ghost Inside, Counterparts, Stick to your Guns, etc. which are thrown into this mix despite having huge hardcore influence. We usually end up calling it "melodic hardcore."
I'd start with Converge and Botch

Personally my go to's are Early to Mid Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive for bog-standard Metalcore. You also have more hardcore inspired shit like The Ghost Inside, Counterparts and Misery Signals who I also heavily recommend.

How is metal not? Practically the same lyrical content with less about relationships and feelings and more about destruction, depression, death, suicide, etc. Instrumentals are obviously heavier and less punk oriented but other than that, you're getting the same shit m8
